As for me, I think these people have studied whether these ads have effects on people’s behaviour and they are banking on affecting the lives of many. Otherwise, I don’t think they would be spending their money in that manner.

And it is your unsupported opinion that only atheists may drive a bus with an ad from the BHA.
The ads were put up as a satyrical reaction to the Biblical ones. Do you know anything about the story behind it? There is supposed to be an element of dark humour in it I reckon.

Don’t you understand that those people who placed the ad have an agenda? And by driving the bus you assist those people in their agenda?

Therefore, it doesn’t matter if the people who ride the bus associate the driver with the message. It matters that YOU personally, as the bus driver, did not see fit to reject that which is against Jesus Christ.

This is very much like those Christians who sell condoms, like those Christians who vote for Pro abortion legislators. At which point do you draw the line and say, I’m Catholic unless…
  1. it costs some money.
  2. it costs me respect.
  3. it is inconvenient.

No, by driving the bus I assist people who need to get to their jobs, do their shopping, get to their medical providers, etc. and who have no other way to get there.

The agenda is to stop fundamentalists from having the monopoly on advertisements referring to God.

Yes! Well sort of, there is a serious element too… many people were being scared into believing. That’s where the ‘enjoy your life’ line comes from, it is a reaction to this.

As for me, I’m very much in favor of fundamentalists spreading the message of the Bible, because the Bible is a Catholic book.

Besides, on this side of the pond, we, Catholics, also spread Biblical messages on billboards and buses.

Well if they’re allowed to do it, why aren’t atheists?
There’s nothing wrong with religious ads. But if we allow them we have to allow atheist ones too.

They are allowed to do it as evidenced by the ad on the bus. We are allowed to respond to it by refusing to drive the bus or by refusing to ride in it.

Is Britain so different? Why do you feel you must either drive or ride a bus which is showing a message with which you disagree?

Apparently, you aren’t cut out for a career as a bus driver. What other ads would cause you to refuse to do the job you’ve been hired to do? How about an ad begging for donations to a cause of a Protestant denomination’s mission to a Catholic country? How about a condom ad, or an ad for an escort service?

If doctors are the only people taking public transportation, this would be relevant. But anytime I am on a public bus, train or subway there are people of all sorts, and I can tell you for a fact that public transport is especially utilized by poor people.

I can barely believe this is even under discussion.

Is the USA so different that driving a bus is voluntary work? Bus drivers are employed to drive buses.
Again ‘I don’t like those trainers we’re advertising, so I will not drive this bus’.

I am a bus driver. But the buses I drive don’t have ads. Well, one, the company logo.

Because, apparently, you don’t hold your faith paramount. And apparently, you think others should believe just as you do. But some of us believe we should be Catholic 24/7. Not just when it suits our bosses or our friends.

Again, I would not drive a bus which had that ad on it.
