Nothing like a link by itself as the sole content of a first post 😃

Yeah, he has been called the “first Catholic president” before - I’d love it if he made the leap, it would certainly make American evangelism for Catholicism easier. And nobody makes a good Catholic like a Protestant convert. 🙂

I think this is great news! I’m confused tho…Wasn’t John F. Kennedy our first Catholic President??

Except that pretty soon, he won’t be President anymore.

Hasn’t this already been posted AND locked several times already…

Why would this be locked? He’s not a candidate for anything, and it’s not as if we’re actually discussing politics. If he converts, this would be a great thing. It would show the impact of the Pope’s recent visit even more.

before I report this banned topic (again) I would like to note:
a newspaper headline reporting that a certain rumor has been circulating is NOT NEWS. If is simply spreading a rumor. Lousy journalism, but no wonder, since journalism schools stopped teaching that art at least 30 years ago.

I quoted a news source and did so because I thought it was great news.

Why is it banned and why are you so upset about it?

Here’s the tail end of an interview with Bush and Raymond Arroyo that really stunned me. I’ll risk getting it tossed to share it, I really don’t think it is so politically charged that it will effect the tax status of the website.

Q Mr. President, final question.

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, sir.

Q You said, famously, when you looked into Vladimir Putin’s eyes you saw his soul.

THE PRESIDENT: Yes.

Q When you look into Benedict XVI’s eyes what do you see?

THE PRESIDENT: God. (emphasis mine)

Q Good way to end the interview.

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, sir.

Q Thank you, sir. My pleasure.

The whole interview can be read at:

Peace,

Actually, President Bush gave the Holy Father the best welcoming reception, even better than whatever was according to Pope John Paul (or Pope Paul VI, for that matter) by Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush (41) and Clinton. The fact that he showed up to personally meet the Holy Father on the tarmac was amazing.

Before people start flying off the handle regarding a possible conversion, might I remind you that Tony Blair pretty much flew under the radar until the Westminister Archdiocesan officials announced his conversion after he left office. Granted, Britain is still not progressive enough to allow a Catholic to govern the country, but, the fact that Blair jumped the Thames and went into the Tiber is quite extraordinary.

When I worked for the Texas House of Representatives, I had the privilege of seeing my former governor (now President) on a daily basis. He even called me by my first name. One time, during our Washington’s Birthday Celebration grand parade, he actually shouted out to me from his motorcade. I used to bring him Mexican sweet bread whenever I retunred back to Austin from home. Whatever faults and foibles he’s had certainly don’t diminish the fact that George W. Bush is a genune man of faith. He’s also a pretty decent fellow and was never pretentious when he served as our governor.

If he does, in fact, decide to join the Church, it will certainly be a moment of grace for him. If anything, I think that whatever dealings he’s had with Pope Benedict XVI will certainly have left an indelible mark on him that will last a lifetime.
