Bush Pledges ‘Nothing Less Than Total Victory’
Salt Lake city, Aug. 22, 2005–Amid a rousing reception from attendees at the VFW/Ladies Auxiliary’s Joint Opening Session, President George W. Bush outlined a three-part strategy: protect the U.S. Homeland, defeat Terrorists overseas and advance democracy in the Middle East. “In all their objectives, our enemies are trying to intimidate America and the free world,” he said. “And in all their objectives, they will fail.”
Bush said one of the most important tools in protecting the nation is the USA Patriot Act. “Key provisions of the Patriot Act are scheduled to expire at the end of this year,” he said. “Yet the terrorist threat to our country will not expire at the end of this year. When the House and Senate return from their recess, they need to send me a bill to renew the Patriot Act.”
Bush said the second part of his strategy is to fight terrorists abroad instead of in the United States. “Our goal is clear,” he said. “Secure a more peaceful world for our children and grandchildren. We will accept nothing less than total victory over the terrorists and their hateful ideology.”
