WASHINGTON - Pushing back against the Democratic-led Congress, President Bush vetoed a bill Wednesday that would have eased restraints on federally funded embryonic stem cell research.

Democrats, who had made the stem cell legislation a top priority when they took control of the House and Senate in January, were quick to denounce the president’s decision.

“This is just one example of how the president puts ideology before science, politics before the needs of our families, just one more example of how out of touch with reality he and his party have become,” Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., told the Take Back America conference of liberal activists Wednesday.
Well all is not so rosy for Senator Clinton:** Hillary Clinton Booed Again **

Sen. Hillary Clinton was booed again this morning at the Take Back America conference, sponsored by the lefty activist group Campaign for America’s Future here in Washington. At this same conference last year, Sen. Clinton was booed for her position on the war in Iraq. This morning, she was enthusiastically received as she bashed the Bush administration — “a stunning record of secrecy and corruption” — but the crowd became less friendly when, at the end of her speech, she turned to Iraq.

“We’re going to end the war in Iraq and finally bring home the troops,” she said as a number of Code Pink protesters stood up in the audience. When she declared, “The American military has done its job,” boos began to be heard around the room. As the boos increased, Sen. Clinton raised her voice. “The American military has succeeded,” she said, to more boos. “It is the Iraqi government that has failed to make the tough decisions.” Still more boos.

This is only his third veto in six and a half years, and the second on this issue. Meanwhile, he has challenged and ignored parts of over 1,100 bills he has signed into law regardless, using the executive order as a line-item veto instead of for its intended purpose in detailing enforcement.

Something is rotten in the state, and I don’t think it’s Denmark.

Well I am no fan of either George Bush, but what does your post have to do with his veto of the stem cell bill? I can find about a 100 reasons to criticize both Bush administrations (and 100 reasons to criticize the Clinton administration too). Never the less, a veto here was a wonderful thing.

Perhaps now we will see some more positive development of stem cell research that does not involve the killing of a human embryo.

It is somewhat tangential, true, but I thought it relevant. Two out of Bush’s three vetoes are on stem-cell bills; haven’t there been others against his platform that he’s passed and scribbled an executive order over? Why is this such a pet issue for him, that he’ll only actually break out the veto power for stem cells and war spending?

This is just one example of the lies that most people just accept.

It is a scientific fact that nothing has come from embryonic stem cell research. It can also be done in the United States, it is just that this type of research can be funded by federal money.

Many cures and treatments have come from adult stem cell research.

It is better to spend our very limited money where fruit has grown rather than throw our money where we know nothing has happened yet.

Well, thank God that Bush can at least get something right! I suspect that Bush is God’s response to Roe /vs Wade and the nation who has permitted it to endure for decades. Bush is both our punishment for the years of mass murder and the solution by vetoing bills like this and appointing a pro-life, majority Catholic Supreme Court.

Regardless of how good a president he is at other things, you have to give him points for this.

And as if we needed another re ason not to support Hillary:

"“Let me be very clear. When I am president, I will lift the ban on stem cell research,” Clinton said at the “Take Back America” conference of liberal activists in Washington, D.C.

Clinton said Bush’s veto shows the need for Democrats to win back the White House.

“This is just one example of how the president puts ideology before science, politics before the needs of our families, just one more example of how out of touch with reality he and his party have become,” Clinton said."

from Fox News.

Pretty simple to me: Don’t vote for Hillary 👍 Way to go George W!!!

Just give credit where credit is dued. It’s tough to get a politician to do something morally right nowaday.

I went to the March for Life in Washington DC this year and President Bush spoke over the speakers to the crowd. He said he would veto this and he did. Thank you President Bush for standing for life. 👍

YEAH!! HURRAH!! I am so very proud I voted for Bush today and also he is against partial birth abortion! That is more than any other president has done for pro-life in 34 years!

President Bush has done the right thing. And I think this is an excellent example of looking at my local newspaper, for example, pushing and pushing for embryonic stem cell research and ignoring the treatments that are being used right now with adult stem cells. Why would they promote it?

From a purely monetary point of view: adult stem cells work now. I’ll invest in that. Embryomic stem cells don’t work, so why invest in that?

I find it shameful and dishonest that people with illnesses have been manipulated into believing embryonic stem cells will do something for them, usually believing it will happen a lot sooner that some will likely live.

This talk about embryotic stem cells is propaganda. We, as Catholics, should not allow our genuine compassion for the sick and dying be placed in doubt like this. Everyone reading my post began as an embryo. An embryo designed to develop into one thing - a human being.

God bless,
Ed

Embryomic stem cells don’t work NOW. Give scientists a few more years, and see what comes of it. They said it would be impossible to sequence the human Genome is under 20 years. They said that you couldn’t sequence more than 20,000 nucleotides at once. Technology pushed forward. The same will happen here. Once a State institute or private company figures out how to control these things, you will see the biggest explosion in embryo creation and harvesting. But what you won’t see is a Federal ban on States and private companies doing this. Congress doesn’t have that power #1, and #2, big business wouldn’t let them try anyway.

This bill is a non-issue. States are already gearing up to make thousands of embryos, or use already frozen embryos in their own ESC programs.

You’ll notice that Bush hasn’t said a SINGLE thing about States and private companies destroying embryos. Not a SINGLE thing.

In this article President Bush is clear, he says

“The president does not believe it’s appropriate to put an end to human life for research purposes,” Snow said. “That’s a line he will not cross.”

Most people dont call the embryo’s human life, but try to make it so much less human.

I can’t believe the number of people, especially Catholics who do not understand this. President Bush cannot speak well, but I am a big fan because of this and his anti abortion stance. He certainly is pro life. I have trouble believing much of those that have sold their soul to the devil who have changed from pro life to pro death. Most of the Catholic politicians who vote pro death where at one time pro life, which means that they do understand, yet vote against God. This to me is the bottom line on who to believe and not to believe.

That is a statement based on faith. Like I wrote previously, people are being manipulated into believing cures will come in their lifetimes. With God anything is possible, don’t turn science into a god.

God bless,
