. You’d like to think you could have a little break from these demands occasionally especially when you’re on holiday."
The world does not revolve around you. It doesn’t care if you’re on holiday.

Perhaps you should develop better coping skills so you don’t get so distraught over the way strangers live their lives. Nobody is asking you to accept it - you can continue to be disgusted and have dampers put all over your plans just by the knowing there are gays congregating in your vicinity … or you can decide to live and let live and just go about your merry way.

Life is short. I’d rather be happy then be so bothered over things and people who aren’t hurting me in the least.

In the magazines and books I’ve seen and used, it’s not just “a small paragraph” or a discreet list. It’s a whole big section of the book PLUS parts of just about EVERY other section of the book. It’s not really practicable to just avoid it or black it out or tear out the pages etc.

.
Then don’t buy the magazine.

The women’s magazine Cosmopolitan has some great articles - but it also has trashy stuff that doesn’t interest me so I don’t waste my $ buying it. The magazine does well, so obviously some women like it - but I don’t. Should I whine and complain because I can’t read Cosmo? That would be ridiculous, wouldn’t it? Seriously - I have more important things to worry about, don’t you?

Yes - don’t buy them - if he, like Petergee is so disgusted by pro-gay articles that a great big damper is thrown all over his holiday plans, skip the magazines.

If he can simply pass by those sections without being bothered, and he gets helpful information and enjoyment out of the rest of magazine, keep reading.

So you are disgusted so much by cosmo that it would ruin your holiday plans? Ok I’m glad we all are repulsed by repulsive things.

Haha. That’s funny. Nothing would ruin my holiday plans - if I had holiday plans. Certainly not a silly magazine that nobody is forcing me to read.

This proves nothing.

I am repulsed by repulsive things - and you are repulsed by repulsive things - but I’m certain we’d disagree on what qualifies as repulsive… just as we’d probably disagree on what is a good book, or a bad movie, or a perfect date. To each his own…

These are not magazines the OP is talking about. These are travel guide books which many tourists have come to regard as almost essential. They are certainly extremely handy when travelling. And as far as I am aware there are only three or four brands of these guides and they all do this, so some of us would like an alternative to be available. But apparently we aren’t allowed to say that.

Gays are a successful demographic - they are usually educated, have good paying jobs and no wives/kids to support. Companies want to make $ and gays have $ to spend. The secular magazines would be dumb NOT to include points of interest for gays.

It’s a free country - if you don’t want your $ going to magazines who support the gay culture, don’t buy the magazine. I think it’s crazy to expect the secular magazine to cater to our religious beliefs - just as crazy as it was for the gays to be so freaked out over Chick Fil A’s founders supporting man/woman marriage. Don’t like it? Don’t eat there.

Works both ways IMO.

I generally don’t bother to boycott any business based on who they support because where does it end? Don’t give your $ to the magazines - but do you drink Starbucks? They support Planned Parenthood I’m told. So does my favorite grocery store - Trader Joes. All the big named companies Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson etc. etc. all support causes I wouldn’t - so am I going to boycott all those products? Apple - maker of my iPhone that I LOVE and the makers of my Subaru probably support causes I wouldn’t. Am I going to ditch my phone and take the bus? I could I suppose - and eventually it would come down to me sewing my own clothes and growing my own food - no thanks.

One could argue that by you checking the magazines out of the library, your demand for them causes the library to purchase them, even if you don’t. They’re still getting $ from you - even if it’s indirectly. See what I mean? Where does it end?

Gays aren’t going anywhere. They are part of our society. They are our neighbors, brothers, sisters, coworkers, teachers, friends. I say we just learn to live and let live. If they get a small paragraph in a magazine listing points of interest to them - how does it hurt us? 🤷

Wow, what a way over the top reaction.

Nobody here is suggesting we shouldn’t live and let live, or suggesting that such behaviour should be banned. Nobody is distraught or unable to cope with life or thinking the world revolves around him or any of the rest of your rant. We are only saying that we find it unpleasant to have such things shoved in our faces when we are trying to enjoy or plan a fun relaxing holiday. But apparently the PC police have declared that even feeling like that, or admitting it, is verboten.

**That would be like saying bars in general exist only for that. **
Thatis like saying that homosexuality is equivalent to normal sexuality. The great preposterous lie of our age which you seem to have unthinkingly swallowed.
People live and work and play, go to church, buy groceries and go to movies, have kids and go to school in them. They are communities. I dunno your definition of community, but it must be different than mine

If the statements about homosexuality are that disturbing, then that seems to be a reasonable solution.

It might be a sign, actually. If every travel guide out there is just chock full of helpful hints for homosexuals and that is objectionable for so many people, then a job is clearly available for someone to write travel guides for Catholics and other Christians who are offended.

Actually, I don’t buy Starbucks, and I often avoid other products if I can avoid it. Not always, but I try.

You’re right that gays are indeed a part of our society, but it’s a sad part that I’d rather not celebrate–or promote that kind of celebration with my money.

IMO, a 400-page guide to a given European country that has 8 pages on items of “gay interest” falls somewhat short of “celebrating” homosexuality.

I’m certain that many millions of non-Christians would also want such a profuct.

Perhaps you could say that teh book as a whole soedn’t celebrate it, but the dedicated section certainly does.

Also you may have overlooked that it’s not just that section, the gay theme is subtly woven into many otehr secytions of the book.

A block of text, a paragraph, a sentence, a phrase, or sometimes just a word, sprung on you when you least expect it. It can be very subtle so that you first think “that phrase was expressed in a strange way”, then you re-read it and realise exactly what it means.

Well, there you go! Sounds like a million dollar opportunity for someone! 👍
You’d think so in theory, but in practice I suppose what holds people back would be that if someone brought out a series of guides which didn’t promote homosexuality as OK, they would have all Hell rained down on them, as soon as this became generally known, even if they didn;t advertsie the fact. You know the drill, allegations of “homophobia”, “bigotry”, “hatred” etc. No company owner can cope with that. The pro-gay lobby may be a very small minority but they have massive power and influence in our society and on our economy.

That is ridiculous. No travel guide would be vilified for not including information about gay life, except maybe by gay websites who are reviewing books with an eye toward LGBT content. Reviewers in general may comment on that omission, but it is not as if bookstores would not sell them for that reason.
