A greeting, Paul:)
Oh, Paul,
Did Holy Bible: Ecclesiasticus, Or the Wisdom of Jesus Son of Sirach not write that: "and he confirms a mother’s right over her children."and “and those who honour their mother are like those who lay up treasure.”

**"Listen to me your father,
O children;
act accordingly, that you may be
kept in safety.
For the Lord honours a father
above his children,
and he confirms a mother’s
right over her children.
Those who honour their father
atone for sins,
and those who respect their
mother are like those who
lay up treasure.
Those who honour their father
will have joy in their own
children,
and when they pray they will be
heard.
Those who respect their father
will have long life,
and those who honour their
mother obey the Lord;
they will serve their parents as
their masters.
Honour your father by word and
deed,
that his blessing may come
upon you.
For a father’s blessing
strengthens the houses of the
children,
but a mother’s curse uproots
their foundations.
Do not glorify yourself by
dishonouring your father,
for your father’s dishonoour is no
glory to you.
The glory of one’s father is one’s
own glory,
and it is a disgrace for children
not to respect their mother.

What should we consider well? Mary is Christ our LORD own mother, our Most Holy Mother is our own, for Christ is with us!
O mother of God! O Most Holy Mother! :gopray:

From what I understood, we dont WORSHIP, Mary, or any of the other saints…we PRAY to them, and ask them to PRAY for us…at least thats what they said on 1260AM the other week…lol…

I might not articulate it as well, or have the exact bible quote they had, but, in the bible jesus asks us to pray, for ourselves, and for our neighbors…by neighbors he means everyone else…he encourages prayer…it doesnt say who we pray to has to be alive…so like, if we are in a situation where we need strength, we might pray to St. Micheal, and ask him to pray for us…We dont WORSHIP that Saint by praying to him…you could just as easily pray to your dead grandfather and ask him to be with you…watch over you…

I’m gonna send this to Coffin…he’ll clear it right up 😃

Here’s excerpts from the Catholic catechism which covers the teachings with regard to the Virgin Mary: made-inbet.net/archive/catechism/p123a9p6.htm

She is given high honor and respect as the Queen Mother role from the Old Testament.
Cathholic prayers “to” the Virgin Mary are people’s communications with her to pray for us. She always points to her Son, encourages worship and prayer to her Son. Still, she is a special intercessor for us when we ask and she dispenses graces for the Father. That is not worship. She was a human being mother who totally committed herself to what God asked. As a perfect vessel for God, she lived and helped his mission. Now she lives in body in heaven and continues the work.

The Catechism footnotes church conferences/meetings throughout history to note when and where certain doctrines were established.

Regarding the Pope’s speeches about the Virgin Mary, there isn’t one place to find all that. I would encourage you to simply go on the internet and google “Pope’s speeches” and “Virgin Mary.” You will find many references. Pope John Paul II had a special devotion to Mary as he lost his own mother when he was young. He personally believed that the Virgin Mary saved him from the assasin’s bullet. Speeches are speeches of course, his thoughts and comments. Generally, speeches are not actual teachings in and of themselves. The catechism is the definitive statement of church teachings. For instance, there are apparitions of Mary which are “recognized” as authentic by the church but the church does not “require” church members to believe in them. (Fatima, Guadalupe, etc.)

Paul, you are looking for sections 773 and 973 regarding the Marian dimension of the Church; Sections 963-972 as far as her place in the mystery of the Church; Section 971 as far as devotion to her. Know that Catholics and Orthodox give her what is called “hyperdulia”, or special veneration as she is the mother of Christ (God). “Latria” is worship and is due only to Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is forbidden to worship anything but the trinity.

Protestant attacks and misrepresentations, and prejudices against the Catholic Church are stronger than the attacks against Orthodoxy in major part because Orthodoxy did not have much representation in Western Europe until recently. The only manifestation of the unbroken teaching and and practice of the Early Church in the West was the Catholic Church, until Protestantism was invented.

Now that Orthodoxy is a little better known in the West, a few Protestant groups are split. Some only see that Orthodox do not recognize the Pope as head of the Church, and that is enough for them. Others who really investigate Orthodoxy and see that it has preserved almost all of what the Early Church taught (from the Roman prespective), except for Petrine Primacy, and a few minor disagreements, attack Orthodoxy too.

well folique the situation in middle east protestants attack the orthodox church more than the catholic :o
for the same reason the orthodox church in middle esat is more potentiel
but what i don’t understand why the catholics alone are accused by this suspicion and not the orthodox
and nearly the same suspicions accused to catholics are the same accused to orthodox except mary worship …

It could be in part a linguistic one. English speaking Protestants have a far higher concentration of accusations of “Mary Worship” and “Saint Worship” from my observation. The only Spanish or French “Mary Worship” attacks I have seen have been translated from English speaking Anti-Catholics. Not speaking German, or any Middle Eastern language, (except Hebrew) I can’t say that I could speak authoratativly, but I can speculate.

In English the word Worship has gone through quite a few changes in meaning. Some important government positions in England, like Mayors and Council People are referred to as “Your Worship” which in days gone by did not mean that one was adored as a god. In some english language books dating back over one hundred years or more, the term Worship did not mean what it means today, to adore. English (like most living languages) sometimes retains words but the meaning changes. So I’d speculate that the prejudices of Anti-Catholic writers, combined with the suspicion of anything Roman Catholic, (in England the Pope was referred to for many years as a foreign bishop, and mistrust of anything foreign was/is common) Catholics were suspected as being anti-British, or at the very least a problem of Irish and other immigrants, usually poor, or the religion of enemies of the Crown (Spain, France) all combine to make for mistrust and attacks, against the Catholic Faith, and practices.

I see today the parallel prejudices among Americans many of whom who see all Middle Eastern people as all being Muslim, and are unaware of Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches native to the Middle East.

orthodox too pray for the Virgin and St and they ask them to pray for them but never accused of Mary worship. can you explain for me the cause please ?
The simplest answer: because the enemy knows what’s true and attacks all truth so that it’s seen as wrong and evil. That’s why you see the world in general attack Christianity and ESPECIALLY the Catholic Church. People hate the Church because of ignorance, they don’t really know what she teaches (and most don’t try to learn).

I’ll try finding you some of the links but the index is here (click here).

Here is a great link from the www.catholicscomehome.org website which can give you a whole range of topics regarding Blessed Mother. Check it out, and also check out the Catholics come home website too. There is a whole section for those who just want to learn more about the Catholic church in very simple FAQ format. I think it is well worth the time spent exploring it.

That’s what we’re here for. 😃

And yes, you’re right: Catholics DON’T worship Mary. God bless you and may your friends come to understand the Truth.

Even if at first they seem to refuse to believe, pray for them!
