California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Endorses Gay Pride Events

By Gudrun Schultz

CALIFORNIA, United States, March 29, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – California’s governor has issued a 2006 “pride message,” supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride celebrations in the state.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger extends “warm greetings” to participants in gay pride events, saying **“California is proud to host events that celebrate diversity and support active civic participation.” He applauds Californians for defending “America’s democratic ideals.” **

**Mr. Schwarzenegger has been a vocal supporter of homosexual activism during his years as governor. A Republican—he calls himself a ‘moderate’ Republican—Schwarzenegger has said he wants to see the party shift left on social issues, particularly gay rights and abortion. **

“I would like the Republican Party to cross this line, move a little further left and place more weight on the centre,” he said in an interview with a German magazine in December 2004. “This would immediately give the party 5% more votes without it losing anything elsewhere.”

His comments earned him some harsh criticism by the Capitol Resource Institute, a pro-family public policy organization in California.

“Schwarzenegger’s statements that the GOP party would not lose its base if it embraces gay marriage and abortion rights shows extreme arrogance and total ignorance concerning the values and dedication of the party’s core constituents,” said Karen England of CRI.

California voters ratified the Defence of Marriage Act in 2000 with a solid majority of 61.4%. The Act specified that marriage be only between one man and one woman. Despite this, Gov. Schwarzenegger has said he would be in favour of a redefinition of the law by the courts, which would bypass the clearly expressed wish of Californians to maintain a traditional definition of marriage.

With all due respect, I think you’ve got it backwards. I think we’re the ones (religious conservatives) that are getting “picked on” lately. :twocents:

How is it that extending groups a welcome to hold thier own events is somehow lessening your rights? I am not saying this with any malice whatsoever, but you are more than free not to attend any events that you may find offensive. Why do these events have to be banned altogether? This is like saying that I don’t like Star Trek, so I think that no Star Trek conventions should be allowed to be held anywhere. No, I don’t like Star Trek, therefore I do not go to Star Trek conventions. I could understand your concern if someone had said “I don’t like church and therefore no one is allowed to go to church.” But I really do not feel as though you are under attack here. If you were being forced to attend these events, then I would absolutely see your point. Simply don’t attend and your life will go on as usual.

I agree. 👍 They have a right as human beings to speak out. I know quite a few gay people and they don’t have an “agenda” - they just want to be left alone to lead their lives without discrimination.

That may be true for some, but many want us to endorse and embrace their alternative lifestyle. No one can doubt they are trying to impose this in the courts.

Yes, let’s boycott Arnold! 😃

Yes, of course, because them having their own parades is soooo infringing on your rights 😃

Heck, they have me. I’m not even gay, and I want you and all your descendants to be forced to be. I want people to be taught that being gay is right and being straight is incorrect. I want them to know this from grade one. I don’t know why. The homosexuals must have cast a spell upon me. It must be the glittery shirts.

woah - I never said gay pride events shouldn’t be held, nor did I say I’d boycott anything, nor did I say my rights were being lessened, I was only replying to a snide comment about “people like me” picking on homosexuals. Which is a false accusation, but I guess satisfying to people who don’t want to hear the message we’re preaching.

**California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Endorses…being re-elected. **

How long ago was it he made the “girly men” fauxpas?

Haha - seems like ages!! I guess he’s seen where his bread is buttered.

Yes, we homosexuals rule California. We warned Arnold that we would have him removed, deported, and his movies banned if he did not do our bidding. Fearful, he submitted immediately. Brahahahahahah!
Signed,
The Homosexual Mafia

More cynicism and ridicule - proves my earlier post. Thanks! 👍

Cynicism and ridicule from which side? 😃
 Just stating apparent fact - he knows now not to make he-man pronouncements and instead endorse activities not in union with his own party ideals. In other words, lobbying for more votes. Hardly on par with the ridicule my statements have received on this thread. :twocents:

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone - he’s very liberal on social issues. Hey, he married a someone from the Kennedy clan so he has to tip his hat to them on some things. I wouldn’t vote for him.

I’ll send you an application. You also have to promise to dress fashionably and attend at least one brunch a month. 😉

If it’s at the right places I can make TWO brunches! And I have a friend from new Orleans with a closetful of shiny shirts. 😃
