California passes a first-of-its-kind law to consider reparations for slavery

Here is my short list of reasons:
  1. People who have never been slaves are benefitting at the expense of people who have never owned slaves. Reparation may have made sense 170-100 years ago. Punishing a group of Americans because of the color of their skin, for something they did not do, is racist on its face.
  2. Should Asians be forced to contribute? Why?
  3. Should black Americans with no ancestry of American slaves get reparations? (Like Barack Obama)
  4. What about black immigrants who just came to the US…do they get reparations? Why?
  5. What about white Americans who had ancestors who died fighting for the union? Do they get anything?
  6. What about someone who is half black and half white? 50% reparations? Someone who is 80% white and 20% black…20% reparations? Do we do DNA tests on all Americans to determine what % of African ancestry they have?
  7. What about the descendants of black slave owners? Why should they get anything?
  8. Should LeBron James get reparations? (Does he really need it?..at the expense of say a poor white person who has not benefitted from “privilege”)
  9. I’m white, but my 23 And Me DNA test said I am 0.3% sub-Saharan African…do I get something?
Fact is there is no just way of implementing reparations.

And should white Americans be made to pay when their ancestors didn’t live in the US until after the civil war and had nothing to do with slavery in America.

Do the Irish get reparations? Many of them came to America as slaves.
How do we determine who are actual descendants of of slaves. I mean of we are talking about reparations for slavery, shouldn’t it only be those who are descendants of slavery who benefit?

As an Englishman I want the US to make reparations for the loss of our colonies.

This. I’ve struggled and clawed and wept and bled for every last, lean penny I’ve been able to earn, and the vast majority of that goes to sustain family’s everyday needs. Anyone who says I owe them ANYTHING because of the color of my skin can kiss my grits.
