California School District Cancels Fundraiser After Scripture Submission

"A California school district has canceled a fundraising program featuring memorial bricks, scuttling proceeds of $45,000, after two women submitted Bible verses in their tributes.

The two women, Lou Ann Hart and Sheryl Caronna, had filed a court complaint in January against the Desert Sands Unified School District after the district blocked them from placing the Bible verses on bricks to be installed in walkways at Palm Desert High School in Palm Desert, Calif., about 10 miles east of Palm Springs. The women sought an injunction against the district to compel it to allow the scripture bricks.

Instead, school district officials have decided to rescind the fundraiser and refund money of every community group or individual who purchased a memorial brick, according to a court filing last week with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California."

The stupidity of the secularists never ceases to amaze me. They are so opposed to free speech when it comes to anything religious that they will turn away much needed resources. Sad.

Great, just one more thing to be thrown in my face when I tell people I’m a public school teacher. :crying:

I’m thankful the school district I work in hasn’t pulled this sort of nonsense yet. Being in a small district helps, because issues are dealt with individually.

I wonder if this California district might not have been concerned about the court ruling “opening the flood gates” to other people wanting to include more objectionable tributes.

If the court approve Bible verses, what’s to prevent others from including verses from the Koran, the Book of Mormon, or for that matter some Wiccan ideologies, or even satanic comments? And with all the publicity, there would certainly be some who would try it just to stir up trouble and offend those wanting to “force Christianity” under the feet of the students.

Personally, I think high school walkways with “tributes” written by the general public is a really bad idea for this very reason. Save this sort of thing for the administration building; everyone will always get upset when it’s the school building.

Yeah, anything is more noble than God’s Word. Where do we go from here?

Nothing justify the avoidance of God. He should be first in all things. I don’t care if anyone like or not. We should never bowl down to the unbelievers. Just think if our ancestors did that. Today we have the mentality that it is ok to deny God anywhere and everywhere because we want to keep the peace among ourselves while God is fading away from our Lives. In the end God will Win and those who agree with the unbelievers will be called into account by God.
