Since when does any man except the President “speak for the entire nation”?

==> Easy. He is a United States Senator and his public voice can be heard around the world. Our enemies will not give a hoot that his statements are not from the President.

They know the difference between what the President says and what a Senator says. They are not fools.
They were not dumb things to say, they were treasonist in nature and they were incredible dangerous…criminal if you ask me.

If treasonable, then I await his indictment on such charges. Until then, they’re just stupid and insensitive remarks IMO.

Yes, they are not fools. They know the difference but they also know how to work with whatever they’re given. They can even make successful propaganda and torture sound tracks from the likes of Hanoi Jane, who had no official status.

But, in fact, Durbin expressed (in a prepared speech, not impromptu remarks) what many leftists really think.
