Vienna’s cardinal and archbishop, Christoph Schoenborn, on Sunday lashed out at the decision to bring Williamson back into the fold, saying that “he who denies the Holocaust cannot be rehabilitated within the Church.”

This statement by Archbishop Schoenborn makes me sick. There is no sin so great in which we shouldn’t try to rehabilitate them. Especially since the authenticity of a historical event is hardly a matter of dogma.
I guess the cardinal thinks he’s better than God.

Herr Haering is a nut job. He writes “theological books” with Hans Kung who is forbidden from teaching theology.

In _The_Theology_and_Ideology_of_Joseph_Ratzinger, Haering states that (then) Cardinal Ratzinger’s theology is that of the past and is incomprehensible in the modern day and that Ratzinger’s and the current Catholic Church’s ideas are absurd.

Anyone who takes either Haering or Kung seriously must have, as Herr Haering might put it, kohl fur Gehirn (cabbage for brains)

I am probably gonna regret this one, but can we day what ever come from Herr Haering is just a “red herring” 😊

Isn’t the main message of Christianity that anyone can be rehabilitated/forgiven for their sins?

This stupid move by the Pope will result in more Catholics leaving the Church. Furthermore damage relationships between the Vatican and Israel. Not to mention damaged relationship between Jew and Catholics.

Then those “Catholics” need to re-examine whether their faith is in God or in a man.

Pope Benedict is a good and holy man. I do not believe he intentionally did this.

Those without sin (mistakes) cast the first stone.

Williamson was not ex-communicated because he denied the holocaust and Williamson was not rehabilitated because he denied the holocaust. Full stop.
This whole issue is a storm in a tea cup. Agitators within the Church and their anti-Catholic comrades won’t let this “golden opportunity” slip by without wenting their ages-old anger at Christ’s Church.

6 million Jews murdered is not a storm in a tea cup. Denying and being unrepentent about it… that is a problem with me. Bringing back SSPX into fold that is a good thing.
My issue is with Williamson. If he was sorry for his remarks and show repentence then yes I say forgive him and bring him back into the Church.

Fine! 6 million Jews were murdered. That is true. Williamson denies this truth, but that was not the reason for his ex-communication. Therefore, that was not the reason for his rehabilitation.
What these agitators are doing is something like denying a soccer player Holy communion because he missed a penalty in a match the previous day.

Read my post again. I fully understand his reason for excommunication.

Sorry but you are giving some of us the impression that the Holocaust is just a trivial period of history. Apparently the Pope feels the same. Eh… its ok to deny the Holocaust, which is denying the younger generations living and yet to be born of true education of the evils that were committed.

Then again many Americans forget the Holocausts that were committed by our country in the 1700 - 1800’s.

This just in: Irate CAF posters call for kooky liberal theologians to step down.

😃

This proves that you apparently haven’t carefully read any of the articles coming from the Vatican on this issue (or on the Pope’s statement regarding the Holocaust). You are simply spouting your opinions based on hearsay (from the media based on the position).

I have seen no one trivialize the Holocaust on this thread. Your accusation is unfounded.

I was referring to posts here. Making look like some one denying the holocaust is not a big deal.

The Holocaust is not a trivial issue - sorry if that is the impression you get from my posts. What i am trying to say is that the Holocaust has nothing to do with neither the ex-communication nor the rehabilitation of Williamson. I hope we agree on that score.

I realize what you were doing…reading between the lines…however, it’s really hard to read others intentions/thoughts if they are not expressly stated. I still have to call you on this one. I do not believe that any of the posters think the Holocaust was “not a big deal.” That would be a real stretch for those who love God. 🙂

“ROME - Responding to global outrage, especially in Pope Benedict XVI’s native Germany, the Vatican for the first time on Wednesday called on a recently rehabilitated bishop to take back his statements denying the Holocaust.”

nytimes.com/2009/02/05/world/europe/05pope.html?_r=1&hp
This was a bad move on Rome’s part from the start. Giving the SPPX everything they wanted and not asking for reciprocity. Since the move Bp. Fellay has said the SPPX still has problems with Vatican 2. Instead of humbling themselves, the order is showing, IMO, its hubris.

If more anti-semtitc stuff comes out IMO I think it could become impossible for Rome to reconcile with the SPPX as an organization.

Far betteer that individual SPPX priests and laypeople return to Rome. As I said, its becoming somewhat problematic if a formal reconciliation can occur now giving the growing world outrage over this.

I am so sick of hearing, because the Pope did this or because he did that, Or because The Bishops did this or did that, that it is going to turn Catholics away from the Church.
If any Catholic leaves the Church it does not have a thing to do with what The Pope or The Bishops did or said ( although that is always their excuse) They left the Church because they wanted to Period. they did not want to obide by what the church teaches. it was not all a feel good religion for them! I am tired of hearing that same old same old!
Maybe it would behoove those Catholics to really take a good look at themselves and admit why they left.
It is God’s Church, it is God who we worship, leaving his Church you are leaving God.
