Yes I called the local church to confess my sins to a priest . I ask for a priest and was told they were all busy . the secretary then took down my name and number and said the priest would call me back when he had the chance. well its been a few days now and still no call back.So today I called another church and got the exact same answer!!!

Just think its rude and irresponable on the priest’s part.

It doesnt seem alot of priests take there vocations to seriously, very disappointing.

have you check when the confession times are? Maybe you can go during those times… Otherwise, its sad that they are say the they are busy.

I know this can be discouraging, but it is entirely possible that the first priest really does have your message and will get back to youu as soon as possible, but you will have to wait your turn while he deals with issues that have had to wait longer than you, or with other issues that can not wait, such as people who are dying. As to the second priest, if you just called today, he may not even have your message yet. Priests are that busy.

confession is on saturdays or by appointment for both churches.

If the parish secretary is as responsible as they are at our parish, call back. MANY the secretary is a teen who does not properly write down phone numbers or names and gets numbers wrong. Give them the benefit of the doubt and call again.

You seem to be making the assumption 1) that any of the priests even got the message, and 2) that if they did, they could not be bothered.

Given the general business of most parishes, I don’t see that either assumption is necessarily well founded. People are so busy, at times they cannot get back to you.

People are also so busy that, surprise of surprises, they forget things. I have rarely seen anyone forget something on purpose; if fact, come to think of it, I have never seen that; but we seem to find fault, even moral fault, with those who do.

Why didn’t you call back? Was it because you were offended by their failure to call you back? And if it was, are you letting your hurt feelings take priority over your need to confess?

Ok I just called back the first church , and some man answered. I asked for a priest , and he said in regard to what ??I said I needed confession . Then he said that confessions were on saturdays 4-5 pm. So I said dont you take appointments? he said no confession is on saturdays only . Then i said well On your flyer it says on saturdays or by appointment? then he goes well yes if its an extreme circumstance , like the person is dying , last rites etc. I said ok, I guess Il try another church , and we just said are good byes.

whats up with this??

I guess if you call when you die, they will hear your confession.
That sucks, my friend:mad:

I left a message for a priest and didn’t get a call back for two weeks. It happens.

If I were you, I’d plan to show up at church at about 3:45pm Saturday afternoon, so you can be first in line. You’ll have an hour. Surely you can get it done in that time?

Yeah, I think I’d just wait 'til Saturday, unless you truly have an emergency. If you do, tell them. They’ll get a Priest.

If you don’t, just be very careful 'til Saturday.http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon12.gif

It sounds like it may have been a long time since your last confession. You might use this extra time to examine your conscience thoroughly.

Sometimes you just want to not be rushed… It doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with how long it’s been since your last confession. Usually the people who go out of their way to make an appointment to talk to a priest have also already done a thorough examing of their conscience.

Drive careful.

That’s what I’m doing untill I can get to confession.

:o

Personally, I’m just glad that I live in a country and in an area where weekly confessions are available. In my own parish, daily confessions are available. That’s a blessing in itself. There are places in the world where Catholics may not have access to a priest for weeks or months at a time. Always having a priest available is not something that can be taken for granted.

Don’t give up! Old ugly would love to discourage you. The Lord will get you to right priest. Pray to Him and ask Him to open the doors. He will.

Peace,
Elizabeth

***Do ***you have an emergency or a special extenuation? That should make a difference. A clear message: “I need to speak to a priest about making an appointment for general confession because I have been away from the Church for 20 years” is a message not likely to be ignored. Even a message like: “I need to speak with a priest about a personal matter of some urgency.” If they ask what it is, you say, “It is a matter of pastoral privilege that I wish to discuss only with a priest.”

Can you make it at the scheduled time on Saturdays? If not, did you explain why you cannot make it during the scheduled time on Saturdays?

I told them I needed confession, I still havent got a call back from either church. I called back the first church and was told confession beside on saturdays was only for severe circumstances, someone is dying, last ritesetc.

This Morning before work, around 6am I went to this other church , I knocked on the rectory door and asked if i could see a priest in regard to confession. Was told all the priests were preparing for the mass , come back later.
So I guess im going to just wait until saturday. I just felt that it shouldnt of been delayed , i wanted to restore my relationship with God right away. I was sincerly worried of dying in mortal sin. I felt the Holy spirit was telling me to go right away. But I guess these priests are way too busy , silly me

The tone of your post here just seems off to me.

Maybe they are busy.

Here is a suggestion, try and develop a personal relationship with your pastor. Maybe then he will drop everything for you when you call.

You are aware with the number of priests we have today that they are a bit over worked and could that be the case here, that they really are busy and they do have a scheduled time for confessions. That is better than some of the parishes where I live, they have no posted times for confessions.

This type of stuff is one of my pet peeves regarding vocations. With the attitude expressed here, is it any wonder why men are not answering the call?

Its frustrating when you want to restore your relationship with god but cant because there’s no priest who can hear your confession.

Thats the reason for my tone.
