Campaign aims to increase hispanics in Catholic schools

I agree with that point that she made and sorry I did not apply it to my comment, but you said it yourself Catholic parents who COULD and should send their children to Catholic schools, don’t this is a choice they make. One of the major reasons many Hispanics are Catholic is because they bring that tradition from their native lands, unfortunately many and I mean MANY protestant churches and evangelicals do a lot to convert them, this includes affordable schooling for them and other social help. The evangelicals have succeeded in converting many Hispanic Catholic families and it’s sad, but with the lack of Catholic education of them, it’s going to continue.

I wish that we had not abandoned our schools. In Key West the Catholic High School is shut down. Now our children go K-8 to the Catholic School and then are abandoned to the Public High School to be polluted.

My Kids went as long as I could keep them there, but for good or bad the Parish prefers to put its efforts into running a local homeless feeding station instead of educating the young. I have noticed that the Parish has young children attending, but the teenagers and young adults are gone. They have been abandoned and have abandoned the Parish in return.

That being said they have a very nice feeding program for the homeless on Stock Island being run by the older members of the Parish to for the many addicts that make the Island home.

These are competing requirements, and they are both needed, but they seem mutually exclusive. In my opinion having no replacement flock will someday end the charity for the homeless, but that is just my opinion. I guess we will have to wait and see who will replace those that currently do the feeding, as I see fewer twenty somethings in the Parish. Most of the parents that grew up in the High School are about done with child bearing and the numbers of new children being enrolled just are not there.

Very Sad… I wish that Hispanics would go there in numbers to demand the High School to open… it would give an alternative for the ONLY school in town.

I would imagine that running a school in the Keys is very expensive too, more expensive than the mainland. It’s just my guess. I don’t live there. But I’ve heard that the cost of living is higher than the rest of FL.
