Mmmm… Tomato Basil. Perfect soup to have on Fridays in Lent (or Fridays in general).
The bottom line is, much as I’d like to buy cans of soup made, say, by nuns in a convent or something so I know exactly where my money is going, those usually cost more and since I’m on a limited income, I’m afraid it’s Campbell’s for me. The most I can do is hope the portion of my money that goes to Campbell’s goes to a worker who loves and works hard for their family. You can’t tell much about the lifestyles of the workers in the grocery store who unloaded, shelved and sold the cans, the truckers who shipped it in, etc. etc. etc.
Maybe I’m overthinking it, but if you carried the boycott idea to its logical conclusion, the best solution to avoid paying for someone else’s possibly sinful lifestyle – and remember, we are all sinners – is to grow your own food and make your own clothes, up to and including raising the sheep to provide the wool and planting the cotton, plus spinning your own thread and weaving your own cloth. I’m not sure how many people could really live that way in this day and age.
