Can a homossexual couple raising kids be called a family?

I’m rushing out to Mass, but I will pause long enough to comment on this aspect of your post. It is extremely offensive to constantly compare homosexuality to crimes like theft. All societies consider theft a crime. It harms an innocent party. Not all people consider homosexuality a sin, let alone a crime. It is considered living in accordance with the nature God gave them and does not harm an innocent person. Raising a child in conformance with your moral standards, which are not illegal, is not teaching them to break the law.
Amen.

Second ideally speaking yes all biological parents should and must take care of their own kids. People should be responsible when having kids. There are unfortunate circumstances but ideally speaking biological parents must be responsible for their own kids. Adoption is a charitable act to help the child but still an adopted child will have to deal with emotional issues that a child from an intact family won’t.
Okay so today I asked my friend if she EVER has felt ANY “emotional issues” (as you said), especially relating to being adopted (not being raised by her biological parents) and she said that NEVER in her LIFE she has had those, as you say “emotional issues”.

Read your quote out loud to someone who has been adopted.

It is not insulting to speak the truth. MaryMary is correct that in cases of gay adoptions or more frequently use of surrogates or sperm donors, the child is deprived of either a mommy or a daddy. We all lament the numerous pathologies resulting from the increasingly high percentage of single mothers…poverty, crime, drug abuse, promiscuity, lack of education…and are supposed to accept that as long as the child receives financial support and “love” it doesn’t matter if he or she never had a mommy or daddy? Two men or two women do not equate to a husband and wife…whether or not the children are biological there is a benefit from the influence of a same sex as well as opposite sex parent. Further the child that lives with his parents also benefits from the interaction between husband and wife, learning how such relationships are lived out. Again, we all lament when a child loses one or the other parent, why would we want to set out to deliberately deprive the child?

Further gay/Lesbian couples who wish to have a biological child must obtain this child through using the same technology as is used by livestock breeders. Again the child is deliberately deprived of his biological mother or father. It makes children into a commodity to be purchased in effect.

Why does anyone think we’re all so deluded by political correctness and demands not to “offend” anyone that the reality that men and women are different and children need both parents, preferably married to each other, is deemed insulting?
Many straight women use the same “Livestock breeding” technology. And their babies are also gifts from God…

would we go to a child adopted by two gay men or two lesbian women and tell them “You don’t have a real family?” Of course not. Regardless of their family, the children being raised by such a union should not be discriminated against.
Leaving aside the question of whether two women and children who are only biologically the offspring of one of them constitute a ‘family,’ this is mixing apples and hand grenades.

It’s beside the point whether I would say something hurtful to a child–the fact that I wouldn’t say it doesn’t prove whether or not it’s true.

Likewise, believing a family consists of mother/father/children is not ‘discrimination.’ Since when did we become a world where certain people are ‘discriminated against’ merely by another human being having an opinion they don’t like or agree with?

And no one said they were not. My disgust is for people who would be so selfish as to deliberately deny the child a father or in the case of gay males, a mother. No ill will toward the children however they were conceived.

However the technology not only makes children into commodities but also results in grotesque situations like “Octomom” and others who abuse it. As a Catholic I am opposed to using livestock breeding techniques like IVF, egg harvesting, A.I. to create human beings. In the non Catholic world I have encountered married couples who did use IVF to conceive due to the wife’s reproductive problems (blocked tubes, previous ectopic pregnancy). If this technology is to be used I would love to see it limited to a married couple…(male and female in case anyone doesn’t figure that out). Otherwise it’s deliberately depriving a child of one parent. A very selfish act.

I would say, instead, that they are playing God.
I, would not. All children are gifts, no matter how they get here. Trying to demonize them because of their family situation is just wrong.

There’s a thread somewhere of a person asking why so many leave the Church and never return. Some of the thoughts represented on this one are very telling.

Sad.

I am very close to someone whose father was adopted, and even he has questions and some feelings about that fact. I think plenty of adopted children have lots of questions, sense of loss, wondering why they were given up, knowing nothing about their genetics, etc.

You know, this just gets very old, the word games, the completely groundless accusations. NOBODY is demonizing these children. Nobody has EVER demonized these children.

Since I’m a Baby Boomer, I knew a lot of children who were adopted as unmarried women, back in the day, usually gave up the child for adoption if she did not marry the father. I too have heard from absolutely loving, devoted and appreciative children that they had many questions about their birth parents. It’s a natural curiosity. After all we have multimillion dollar industries now that allow you to trace your ancestry back or even test your DNA to find out where your family originated! If any adopted child said they weren’t even curious about their birth parents, potential siblings, not to mention extended family, I would be pretty surprised. This doesn’t mean the children don’t love and cherish their adoptive parents but we just seem to have this desire to know who we are, where we came from and for some what were the circumstances of their birth.

👍 Exactly…just a way I think to deflect questioning the actions of the adults.

Your post, curiously, doesn’t actually respond to my comment that the parents are playing God by misusing God’s biology to create a child outside of the method that God created.

I would ask - is something a gift if it is taken?

Yes 100%! I’m no longer a christian (Catholic) but I do remember The main thing it teaches is compassion and Love thy’ neighbor. Would
Jesus go to a gay family with kids and say yous arent a real family? Christianity is to follow Jesus’s example, not your own opinion and perceptions from your experienced “form of education”. If “god” loves everyone and has pre-determined our fate, would he set us into a sexuality that wouldnt please him? Wouldnt that make his/her image sound narrow minded and rude? God , or what I call the Universe as god , god(s) and god(desses) have came down but have the same universal spirit. We are all inter-connected some how and some way. I am you, you are me. Yet we make ourselves different and causing religous wars because we label everything

I doubt Jesus would walk up to a child and say that. But as stated in my previous post, whether someone would say that to a child is completely irrelevant to the question at hand. Would Jesus say, “Go and sin no more?” Yes, He would. He did. Does that make Him ‘narrow-,minded?’

To claim that God ‘gives’ someone particular sexual desires is senseless. Does he also ‘give’ an obese person an unhealthy desire for too much food? Does he ‘give’ a porn addict a taste for porn? Does he ‘give’ an alcoholic a desire for alcohol? We live in a fallen world. Not everything we feel and want is of God.

Actually, no one was there to witness jesus say anything. Just sinful humans using there perceptions of what he said. Reason why many people feel jesus and feel that they know what he wants (which is just oblivious) is because they feel the spirit of jesus. Of the love of the higher source. Do your minds or souls have an gender, weight? Of course not so why would sexuality have to do with having children. For a gay couple to adopt a kid who was given up, is to act like jesus. Saving people and healing the helpless. To judge it and label it as unofficial or different is to act upon opinion and selfish nish and closed mindedness which is the oppoiste of Jesus’s example.

ALSO, if jesus said " go and sin no more " Who ever said homosexuality was a sin? Many christians cant back that up. Just because you think its bad or unnatural and against gods will of mating, where does it say its a sin. I heard its a sin to judge someone and not love them for them. Self awareness is what yous need. You see the faults of others but not yours. Judging people and other religions when yous are blindfolded to yourselves. So you think a gay person should feel shameful of god? Should not lead a happy life because its against what you believe in? If they are happy, they are acting compassionate, then they can be purple , blue, gay , lesbian , or whatever, we are all energy beings and we are all the same.
Listen to what your heary says, not a human or a book. Theres a difference between spirituality and religion as theres a difference between believing in Jesus Christ and being christian. A family is a source of connectedness and energy and love, not sexuality. Letting your ego and opinion makes you so much farther from jesus

Arent you playing god? By labeling his children who are adopting kids in need? Who are loving and helpful? Arent you the one misusing god’s image by using it to your opinion?. Does biology of a “family” in your perspective" truley have to do with god’s love?

Speaking of judgment! Wow, there’s an awful lot of judgment in your post about someone you’ve never met. Not to mention, you’ve just put a ton of words in my mouth.

There is a vast difference, which liberals pretend they can’t see, between judging ACTIONS and judging PEOPLE.

Who says it’s a sin? Every major world religion has been in agreement on that for thousands of years. The Old Testament. The Magisterium. The fact that YOU disagree with them does not make them wrong.

I’m sorry, but, no. I haven’t labelled anyone. I’ve expressed an opinion about the act of creating babies in test tubes. I have said nothing derogatory of non-traditional families.

WHAT??? Has someone labeled people who adopt children? In what way? And how in the world is ‘labeling’ a person ‘playing God’ anyway? This makes no sense. The phrase ‘playing God’ usually refers to pretty major decisions, taking life and death into one’s own hands, not having an opinion about something.
