Is it possible for a priest to say a Marian Mass every day? Sorry if that’s not the correct terminology, just curious.

Would need to know what you mean by “a Marian Mass”.

The Ordo dictates what Masses may be used on what days.

So, no, you can’t offer a Marian Mass every day, as some days are specific feasts or solemnities not related to Mary.

The Ordo differs from place to place (for example a Benedictine Ordo highlights more monastic saints than a diocesan or Franciscan one).

Don’t worry, though, Mary is commemorated in every one of the Eucharistic prayers.

May the Mother of God protect you all,
Deacon Christopher

If you mean a votive mass of the BVM, then no. It cannot be said every day.

Every Saturday (Universalis seems to have an optional liturgy for that)?

Something like that. Of course, if a greater feast falls on a Saturday, then that mass would have to be said.

The OP is already answered. But I would like to add that even on the ferial days when a votive mass to Mary is permitted, it is not advisable to always opt for it. The texts of the celebration of each week have their richness, so we should not continuously replace them with those of votive masses.
God bless you

I normally wouldn’t, but today I feel the need to challenge the others posting before me. Even on those days where another feast/solemnity is ordered, if that Mass were celebrated first as the “regularly scheduled” Mass of the day, couldn’t a votive Mass of BVM be offered secondarily (unless explicitly prohibited, such as during Triduum)?

No. Even in private, we have to adhere to the liturgical calendar and the rubrics regarding the order of precedence of celebrations. If a feast day is to be observed, it is observed at all the liturgical celebrations that day, save in the case of a vigil of the next day’s feast (e.g you would celebrate St Maximilian Kolbe during the day of August 14, but in the evening you celebrate vespers and the Vigil Mass of the Assumption). If a votive Mass isn’t allowed on a particular day, it isn’t allowed. There isn’t really such a thing as a “secondary celebration” as you describe it.

Opinion: I for one wouldn’t want to see such a thing. Don’t we have enough days on the calendar devoted to some memorial of Mary? I think we do, and three of those (at least) are obligatory feasts.

As far back as I can remember, Jan 1 was the feast of the Circumcision – an obligatory feast day. Then, the memorial of the day shifted away from Circumcision, which is hardly ever mentioned at all. The feast of the Circumcision was on a par with the feast of the Immaculate Conception in December. Why was it so important BEFORE, but it is not NOW? Hmmmm?

Briefly, I think Jan 1 was another Marian feast day, then switched to what is now, what?, the feast of the Holy Family.

To me, seeing these shifting sands makes me irritated that the Bishops want to force THE FEAST OF SOMETHING on us every Jan 1. Whatever it is, we have to go to Mass, AFTER two days of obligation in December – IC and Christmas. In and of itself, January 1 is nothing. New Year’s Day. So what? What PASTORAL reason is there for a day of obligation on January 1 except to force US Catholics to go to church another day?

Circumcision fell off the calendar because of what it focused on, not politically correct. Another feast of Mary, the Queenship, was overkill, I think on Marian feasts. The Holy Family may be seen as controversial in the future, as many families are non-traditional; too many peoples’ feelings may be hurt because of it.

The Pope says clericalism is an evil in the Church, it is the abuse of power. If it were up to me, this would be one of the places to start, in eliminating JAN 1 as a day of obligation. This is germane, I believe, to the general topic here.

I don’t think Mary would want a Mass to be said in her honor “every day”

if you want to practice “devotion” to BVM “every day” , my personal suggestion would be the “Rosary”

Mother Mary has her “feasts” and I am quite sure she is more than happy when the faithful honor them; especially the “obligated” ones;
