Yes we can bless water to make it Holy.

I went to pre-baptismal class a few months ago and one of the things they taught us was that we actually become priests when we get baptised. It is referred to as Baptismal Priesthood.
I looked it up and it says that when we are baptised we become members of the common priesthood. (see Cathecism of the Catholic Church #1268) We were told in class that this allows us to give last rights to a dying person if there is no priest available, and we have the power to bless.

Here is a biblical reference:

But you are a chosen generation,* a royal priesthood**, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;*
1 Peter 2:9 NKJV

on_eagles_wingz, I think you are honestly confused. Sorry for that.

We are, by our baptism, members of the royal priesthood, not members of the hierarchical priesthood. Only members of the hierarchical priesthood may administer the Sacrament of the Sick. They also have the authority to bless items, including holy water and blessed salt. We cannot do the same. We can “ask” that something or someone be blessed, but we don’t have the “zap” that members of the hierarchy, by virtue of the Sacrament of Holy Orders, do.

We can, however, administer the Sacrament of Baptism in an emergency (a member of the hierarchical priesthood is not available and someone is in grave danger of dying).

Okay so obviously holy water blessed by a lay person isn’t the same thing as holy water blessed by a priest but can one do it? I mean, a priest told me that you can do lay blessings on things like your apartment so I figured you could make holy water with a lay blessing. So, if you can do this, would it be just as powerful/valuable/grace filled as holy water blessed by a priest? If you can make your own holy water, is there anything besides water that you put in it? I say this because I read that holy water is made using water and a tiny bit of salt. Also, does it have to be any type of water or can it be tap?
I don’t understand why some people commenting without thinking. 😦 I want to know also if it is possible for any christian can make their own holy water. Before we post our comments we should ask ourselves first why someone asked this kind of question? What if there is no priest in there area like us because we are in Saudi Arabia.

I am interested to know the answer on this question so that i can bless by myself the rosary i made. Not all people are intelligent as the other people who posts their comments on this topic and we apologize for that. Thank you!
