Can a practicing Catholic vote for a pro-life 3rd party instead of Trump?

I am thinking of voting for the Constitution Party’s candidate. I’m sorry, Trump could care less about the pro-life movement and we all know where Hillary stands. Catholics are screwed in this election.

I KNOW the CP’s candidate is truly pro-life. Thanks.

Uh yeah, that is how voting works 🙂
yeah but there is that whole “the one who has the greater chance at preventing…such and such”. Sorry, Trump doesn’t excite me and he’s no pro-lifer people.

A vote for Trump, though is a vote against Clinton, who is decidedly pro-choice, more pro-choice than any other candidate that has ever run for president. Voting for a 3rd party candidate means nothing because no 3rd party candidate has a chance of winning. If you go that route, you may as well not vote at all. The Church doesn’t require that we vote for candidates that are perfect. A vote for Trump (not pushing him, just pointing out the facts) meets the criteria the Church gives us for voting with a well-formed conscience since he doesn’t promote abortion and he has a chance of winning.

He is an advocate for Planned Parenthood. He supports abortion.

Why wouldn’t you be able to? You don’t have to vote for Trump as a Catholic?

Yes. You can. In fact, I’m personally convinced the pro-life movement would be better served by taking a principled stance against both parties, instead of selling our souls to a candidate who doesn’t actually care about pro-life issues and is just using us to get votes.

“If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures.” – Alexander Hamilton

Just study the issues and candidates and then vote your conscience. Nobody is told how to vote. My two cents is that both “major” parties have thrown pro-lifers under the bus.

Yep. Exactly how I feel.

Almost every Catholic I know IRL is voting 3rd party, especially the older ones. Clinton aside, voting for Trump is objectively evil. The notion that one can’t do something wrong for a greater good is a very Catholic one.

Personally, I’m more utilitarian and I do believe that sometimes, the ends justify the means. This point is probably the biggest disagreement I have with Catholic moral teaching, and I really have very few. (Obviously, I have many theological differences, starting first and foremost with the existence of god)

Voting 3rd party candidate is helping Hillary to win and further bring down the moral of this country. It is helping the extreme evil.
No. A vote for a third party candidate is a vote for a third party candidate. It’s as simple as that.

So a vote for Trump is “morally good”? LOL!!!

The thrice married adulterer who has admitted he has felt no need to ask God for forgiveness is gonna bring morality back to America? WOW!!!

No thanks. 3rd party for me.

I agree with you fully!

People say that Trump is the moral choice, since he opposes abortion. One’s position on abortion, though incredibly important, is not the sole gauge of morality.
