I was taught that ANY church under the jurisdiction of Rome is open for ANY Catholic. After all, a Catholic church is A CATHOLIC church no matter what rite. And a Catholic Priest is a Priest no matter what rite they are in. A priest is a priest is a priest.

As for obligations, if you are Roman, you should follow Roman fasting days and holy days of obligation, unless you get a canonical transfer to an Eastern Rite Catholic church then you follow their rules. As for sacraments, any are open for any Catholic.

You cannot, however, take sacraments from an Eastern Orthodox Church without permission from your bishop and I think theirs too.

i just finished reading an article published at the most holyfamilymonastery site (I know it’s controversial but it’s still interesting) that has a lot of info about the eastern rite…

It is also in accord with the canon law for families of mixed Catholic ritual churches to follow the holy days and penitential practices of either ritual church, or those of where they are staying (outside jurisdiction).

CCEO Canon 883
  1. The Christian faithful who are outside the territorial boundaries of their own Church sui iuris can adopt fully for themselves the feast days and days of penance which are in force where they are staying.
  2. In families in which the parents are enrolled in different Churches sui iuris, it is permitted to observe the norms of one or the other Church, in regard to feast days and days of penance.
