Thanks, I hope God feels just like you!! I’m always struggling with trying to be better and praying my past can be forgiven! All we can do is keep trying I guess. God bless you and love your name, lol. I’m trying not to be stupid anymore🙏🏻

it seems mental pain is much harder to treat and still not understood.
You hit this nail on the head! We have so much to learn about how to treat problems of the brain. The brain is such a complex organ, and though we have learned a lot, there is still so much we don’t know. But suffice to say we know enough to realize that addiction is a brain disease, and not a matter of will power.

Many people self medicate with alcohol and other drugs to deal with other problems like social phobia. Once a person stops using the drug, the problem that was being anesthesized by it still needs to be addressed. Fortunately for all of us, God’s grace is sufficient, and He wants to heal us.

That is great to hear you have a support system in place with him! Hopefully he encourages you to avoid drinking on holidays as one is coming up! I’m not sure how many people will handle the situation (myself included). Im sure praying needs will find me at some point. Feel free to write me a private message if you would like some ideas about strengthening yourself! If not, I’ll just assume your support system is what you will be counting on.

I’m praying for you, Dee! May the Holy Spirit strengthen and assist you in your difficulties, help you to find peace, and guide you always toward greater faith, hope, and love.

Praying also for your brother. It sounds like he was full of love, and that gives us much reason for hope.

Eternal rest grant unto Dee’s brother, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

💖

That ending and heart just took me to another place. Thank you.

Dee maybe it will help you to read Cardinal Sarah’s book “The Power of Silence”. In there he presents how God speaks to us in a silent way. You don’t have to push to the point where you like hear voices and maybe it’s Him and then you inebriate your senses. This matches what St. Paysios from Mt.Athos said, and some Russian saints, that faith is “walking in the snow without leaving any trace”.
I also feel the need of some beer, or wine when I really feel like I need Him physically near me. I tried vodka, lucky enough it made me so sick I still remember its taste and how sick it made.
Some Holy Fathers of the Church said that us women can overcome sin of lust and bein depraved better than men, however the passion for liquior is harder for us to overcome than for men. We should steer away from it. I also feel the need to be tipsy and got drunk a few times in my life and that made too sick to continue with it. In my family I do have cases of alcoholism and I worry that even though strong drinks aren’t for me, addiction to mild alcohol is just as bad.
I pray God sends you His signs as intensity you seek them when you are sober, so you can stop searching for the drug. St. Paysios said our bad passions are sometimes also the fruit of our soul’s hunger for Christ but we look for him in the wrong direction and the evil one twists our pure desire against us.
Alcoholism is not exactly a sin is more like a bad passion that keeps you away from Him even if you are doing it to overcome reality to reach above it and He is always waiting for you His eternal loving silence. Do not despair, because when you despair the need for getting drunk is stronger.

You need to see a therapist that is familiar with addiction. This doesn’t necessarily mean a drug and alcohol treatment counselor.

My previous career was spent with those dealing with folks with addiction. In my experience in working with addicts is there is most often a prior trauma, perceived or real. When folks talk about trauma, they often think of the worst thing that can happen but trauma is really subjective. Then there are those whose trauma is more a perception by them than a reality but that does not make it less of an issue for them.

This makes 1x1 therapy critical for success. You will need to get at the root of why you drink, to the root of your trauma. As far as AA goes, find closed groups you can join. I am not a huge fan of typical AA meetings, but everyone needs recovery support. Find faith based groups that actually do some work and not the groups that are all about war stories.

To answer your question, yes, alcoholics can go to heaven.

Of course you can get to heaven! Take a look at the life of St. Augustine. He not only got to heaven but he also became a recognized saint. You MUST believe in Jesus to be saved! We need to walk the walk that he walked as Jesus said in John 14:12 He who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than theses/he will do.

You do NOT need to be perfect to go to heaven but must repent of one’s failures!

You do need to be perfect to go to heaven, however you don’t have to be perfect to go to purgatory. From purgatory to heaven is doable for all.

Yes! In The Confessions Augustine speaks about his mother’s addiction to alcohol and her eventual cure. It is quite an interesting and touching passage.
I’d urge the OP to pray to Blessed Matt Talbot.

You misunderstood me! What I was saying that on EARTH we do NOT need to be perfect in order to reach heaven, but YES we must be perfected prior to physically entering heaven!

The answer to your questions is a resounding “yes.” God hears every prayer, and God wants you to join Him in heaven. He will help you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I deal with my own troubles with addiction - I have some idea of what you’re going through.

God is just to sinners who don’t repent. God is merciful to sinners who repent (change towards God).

Also, God takes into consideration extenuating circumstances, etc…

I do not believe a drunkard can get to Heaven upon death, but after some purification after death he could.

ur a week and join a ministry, I want to visit the old folks home. I am only listening to christian music and pray all day but I still Dr
If you are serious about slowing down your drinking I advise to confess it to receive God’s Grace to help you with your demon. It sounds as though, it will likely happen again (the drinking), if so, and you are still serious about slowing it down, go to confession again and again.

You need to develop the virtue of temperance. Confession will help with that. Your will to slow down will also help you.

Addictions are tough to kick. God’s grace is found in the Sacraments, and he wants you to use the Sacraments.
