Looks to me like he’s just using the arabic word for “God” our of respect for the royal delegation of Jordan. I don’t see that there’s any indication he’s making a theological statement of agreement with the Muslim ideas about the nature of God.

If I was greeting a delegation from Israel I’d very likely refer to God as “Hashem” for the very same reason.

I know what you mean. But, I think he is invoking the holy name of God that is used by the followers of Islam.

I must commend the Muslims for speaking so reverently of God. When they even say God or their equivalent for it, they pause to utter some form of praise.

I guess the problem I have is that Islam call God “Allah” but they don’t believe in the trinity, so it really is not the same God. :hmmm:

The Jews don’t believe in the Trinity either and since we acknowledge the name Yaweh as God, I think the cardinal was just using Allah as another name for God.

No, but you dont’ see Jews walking into buildings with bombs strapped to their chests saying God told them to do it either. LOL

Well, I really don’t see what the big deal is about using the word “Allah”… it does mean God in Arabic.

There are millions of Arab Christians all throughout the Middle East and Northern Africa that speak in Arabic (with the exception in some parts of Syria, Lebanon where small groups of Christians speak Aramaic). Sometimes they will refer to God as Allah or for the most part use Raab=God, Ya Raab=My God for example.

I don’t see anything wrong with calling God merciful and compassionate being he was addressing a Jordanian delegation. He is not going to get all into Catholic religious terminology, so he simplified by using words Allah, compassionate and merciful.

Just look at the Devotion to the " Divine Mercy ". I don’t think this would be constituted as invoking the Islamic God.

I think its best not to read too much in-between the lines which can make us see something that is not really there.

And I don’t see charity in using examples about bombs… nor see how this is of benefit to others in this thread.

God bless all

My take on the article is he’s trying to butter up the Muslims for some reason, at least thats how it sounds to me.

Terrorists are not Muslims and I doubt the Free Muslims Coalition in the US who has spoken out frequently against terrorism would appreciate those statements. Christians have killed people in the name of God in the past. Mary I killed many English Protestants in the name of the Church…but she certainly wasn’t a real Catholic nor acting in the trueness of Christianity.
Don’t generalize and judge all based on the actions of some.

Did you possibly mean to say “Not all Muslims are terrorists?” Because the way it is written looks like no terrorists are Muslims, and that’s certainly not the case.

What I meant is that people who are terrorists are not really Muslims. Just like the IRA is not really Catholic, though they call themselves that.
