Can any of you "hear" God's voice?

One of the problems is, that we only listen to God when we hear what we want to hear and close our ears to what God really wants us to listen to.

One way God speaks to me -
is with / through answered prayer -
That’s - the loudest way - He speaks.

Sometimes at mass - through the day’s readings -
the words seem directed - right to my heart !

Through the kindness shown - from another - unto me !
God says ‘ emulate that ‘ 😛

I conclude that for non-mystics, God speaks to His faithful followers through worldly means such as through the verses in the physical bibles, manipulation of circumstances, granting of prayers, inspirations and enlightenment. For mystics, He shall speak to them internally in a “small voice” like how He had spoken to Saint Faustina.

An example. At adoration, I was suddenly moved to ask for the suffering of a fellow parishioner. We’d both had back surgeries and he was struggling. I consented and experienced a dull pain that lasted for maybe 10 minutes then faded. A few days later I saw him, and he was no longer walking with a cane. He told me that the pain had gone away a few days earlier. The pain I experienced was in the lumbar, on the same side where his surgery was. Some weeks later while at adoration, the dull pain mysteriously returned briefly. About 30 seconds later, he entered the chapel.

So yes, we can hear the Lord’s desire for us. It was then I learned that I was a victim soul. I have had three cancers since 2008 and I can pray only that someone else was spared the trial. I have been given more than plenty grace to bear it.

How does He speak to you? How can you discern whether its God or the Devil speaking to you or just your imagination?
I’m not 100% convinced God’s ever spoken to me. Maybe He doesn’t do that very often, in the geological scale. 😅

I try to seek His Church and listen to what He’s told it. That might be as close as I can come.

Yeah, I’ve heard His voice before. It was Jesus’ voice; I’ve never heard the Father or the Holy Spirit. I can remember, a few months ago, when I heard Jesus. I was in a hotel room, about to go to sleep, when all of a sudden, I heard the Lord say to me “No, don’t go to sleep yet. I want you to pray for unity in the Church”. So I prayed and then went to sleep.

He sounded authoritative, but also sweet. I don’t believe that it was the devil because the devil doesn’t want the christian community to have unity-- he wants there to be division and arguing.

How do you know/distinguish whether it was Jesus or your Guardian angel who told you that?

It was then I learned that I was a victim soul.
That’s something that I rarely see spoken about, even on this Catholic forum. I think most people are afraid of even talking about it, if they’ve ever heard of it at all. Most Catholics don’t even know what it means, and most of the ones that do know about it, don’t understand it. Some of the greatest Saints of the Church were victim souls. St. Francis and St. Padré Pio are among the most well known. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for all of them.

God bless you, @po18guy, and thank you for that! 😉

Join a few prayer groups where you pray for people .keep a journal on what you hear think and perceive.
It will get clear.
That is the interesting thing to be a partner with the holy spirit.and a Christian.

If you expect to hear something, you may very well not. Like candid camera, sometime, somewhere, when you least expect it…

Be as patient with the Lord as He has been with you.

I’ll be honest. Back in 2007 or 2008, I read a post in the prayer intentions threads. Someone’s sister, IIRC had a biopsy and was terrified that it was cancer. Once again before the Blessed Sacrament I pondered with the Lord if I was able to bear that, or even if I should ask. Within a few months, I was diagnosed with cancer. I will never know in this life, but I pray that someone else was spared. I have since been advised by a priest that I should moderate my desire.

Fair enough. Still, two more cancers arrived and I am still here.
This shocks many when I say it, but go back to 2008 and I would choose the cancer over “good” health. It absolutely deepened my faith, revealed the Lord’s mercy in a very palpable way, and gave me a profound appreciation for each day of this life, either healthy or sick. Only God’s grace can work such a thing in a wretched sinner like me.

Every morning when it is time to get up I hear a little voice whisper in my ear, GET UP ALREADY!!!.. MARY ESTELLE, YOU ARE SO LAZY!!! I think the voice is You Know Who. Yup, must be 'cause my alarm doesn’t work.

Generally, if the voice is calling in an air strike on Charlie’s position or requesting a Dust-off, I discount it all together. 😎

The most important thing is what bible told you to do, many people want to see a certain proof that God comes to you, or make decisions by theri own feeling. However, most of time it is just an excuse for people to satisfy their desire. In fact, God has told us every thing in the bible, read carefully, and just be ready.

When God speaks to me, it’s usually a gentle tug in the heart.

If I heard any voices I’d probably go to a doctor.
