Actually, not. The bible itself tells us that it contains maybe 1% of what our Lord said and did. The bible is irreplaceable, but was never intended to be the basis of the faith. Look into it. Jesus founded a Church on the Apostles, and sent them so that “He who hears you hears Me” Luke 7:16. He gave the Apostles all authority on earth. A few of them later wrote a tiny fragment of that down. The most important thing is what bible told you to do, many people want to see a certain proof that God comes to you, or make decisions by theri own feeling. However, most of time it is just an excuse for people to satisfy their desire. In fact, God has told us every thing in the bible, read carefully, and just be ready.
Does the prompting lead me to charity? Does the prompting isolate me or does it lead me to unity and cooperation with others? How does He speak to you? How can you discern whether its God or the Devil speaking to you or just your imagination?
That’s how I do it. Silence is a beautiful way to listen for God and contemplate His presence.A local Quaker community taught my parents many years ago to sit in a quiet place, empty the mind of all cares and concerns as best they could, and just sit. They said the quietest voice they hear will be that of God. Personally I never bought this idea, but my mom said it worked for her.
I believe God speaks to me through what we commonly call intuition, hunches, inspired ideas that come from nowhere. It’s a daily thing and the dialog goes both ways.
