Can any of you "hear" God's voice?

That’s how I do it. Silence is a beautiful way to listen for God and contemplate His presence.
My silentest place in my house is my toilet. Oh well… I guess I have to try to listen to God’s voice in my toilet now.

Heh, when I go to Quaker meetings there are birds singing loudly outside, the sound of cars on the distant road, the sounds of a family in the house nextdoor. Everywhere has noise, and it’s wonderful. Silent prayer doesn’t necessitate perfect silence, none exists. But a calm place is nice. I’d suggest a park, you can also admire nature.

In speaking of the life of an Oblate, Father Meinrad lists several things that Oblates will have in common with monks. The very first is an awareness of silence. And as Father stressed, “…more so than other people…”. 🙂

Usually I hear God when I’m in times of desperation. He’s usually consoling and it’s usually in a unique way that I wouldn’t have thought of on my own.

Just to show you a personal example, last night I was feeling hopeless and I was lying in bed with the lights off, trying to go to bed. The side of the bed I lie on faces the door and just beside the top of the door on the ceiling is the smoke alarm. Now it was completely dark in my room but my smoke alarm had a little green light on it. And I was looking at that light and just started getting the message that God would provide some hope for me in my dark times, just like that light persisted in the midst of the darkness of my room. It might seem cheesy but I’ve looked at that light a lot but never related it like that. It was just what I needed to hear.

As saint Paul said in acts 19. Into what were you baptised into?
So he layed hands on them
And they began speaking in tongues
( automatically) and praising God.
1 samual 19:19-23 and the spirit of the lord came upon them…
Read it on your own. It happens 2day

I “hear” a voice in my head that speaks to me. I know it God’s voice when it follows three rules (developed over YEARS of trying to suss this out!)
  1. What is said brings me closer in line with the church, morality, love (the people around me, especially), and God.
  2. What is said is not in contradiction to Holy Scripture or Tradition.
  3. The content of the message serves to bring me closer to God, myself, or others.
There is a fourth option that is optional for me:
  1. What was said wasn’t something I’d think of myself.
