Can Catholics admit that no one knows what happens when you die?

We have no natural or logical knowledge of what happens after death. People who express their opinion on the matter are just saying what they believe regardless of whether they are theists or non-theists. When an atheists says that we all cease to exist, they have no idea what they are talking about because they have no idea what reality is apart from what they can sense directly. Even with the things we can sense, a-priory, none of us really know what these things truly are in and of themselves, we just give names to things.

We are all born into ignorance.

Some atheists actually believe that we continue to exist after physical death. They see no reason to believe that the life which was present before death must suddenly cease to exist, whether God exists or not. And yes, we’re all born into ignorance, “lost”, lacking the “knowledge of God” which is the main knowledge we need just to have basic understanding regarding where we came from, what we’re here for, and where we’re going. In the end we come from Him, we’re here for His purposes (to cultivate right values to put it tersely), and we’re hopefully going to Him.

Because He is what the afterlife is all about, He is what existence is all about, and He is the source of unending and total happiness for man. Once we understand that, facilitated by grace, which can even serve to reveal God in a direct or immediate manner if He so chooses, then we have enough to take the sting out of death, to give confidence regarding the next life without needing anything more specific.

Salutations in Christ,
Our connection w God was limited after expulsion from Eden. Abraham, Lot, Moses has communications. The Prophets heard God. When they died, they were held in the Limbo of the Fathers’. When Jesus came and rose from the dead, our relationship w the Father, reconnected. Hallelujah. Heavens door was opened.
