Can Catholics be Democrats?

Southern democrats yes. Segregation was more of a regional issue then (though racism certainly existed in the north, and still does). But yes southern Democrats were the most outspoken pro segregationist. Party stances have shifted over time, as the issues have changed and attitudes have as well.

Super Luigi has a point though. This “shift” is not all that far back. However, I think that makes a better argument for being a Democrat. After all, it is rather good evidence that what we think of as entrenched party positions, aren’t really all that entrenched.

Being a Democrat doesn’t mean that one has to agree with the party’s past or answer for that, but credibility is lost when leftists try to graft the Democrat past on the South alone or the GOP.

Being a true Catholic, you can tell the Poor to get a job, the Homeless to get a life and generally be against every other Pro-Life issue as long as you are anti-abortion. It is the only political litmus test for the true believers.

We can walk and chew gun at the same time. This argument though that all pro-lifers hate life after birth is absurd, and the numbers prove it.

You don’t have to look any further than the current Republican occupant of the Oval Office to see a shining example of God’s love and decency in action!

A more appropriate comment for the Evangelical South who choose Trump over Ted Cruz.

Of course Democrats can not be Catholic or Christian! As all us good, moral christians know, God is an old white guy who plays golf every week and votes Republican every election!!

So is this the new excuse that Catholics use to water down their conscience to vote anti-life to appease their peers? I guess all the virtue-signaling by straight white male liberals that God is a “black woman” who may or not play golf makes for it, huh?

Just as long as minorities are stuck in the hood on government welfare and are told “evil racist sexist” GOP hates them and they’d be worse off when GOP wins.

Actually, and in most cases sadly, a lot of Catholics will not put abortion before their own economic prosperity, among other issues—like trying to impress their “friends”.

The RNC (Republican National Committee) is “prolife” in its platform. But when Republicans have held the White House and Congress, abortion was not made illegal.

Prolife justices on SCOTUS will be great, but according to the law, Roe v. Wade is now a precedent and will be extremely difficult to overturn.

It’s not as simple as saying, this party claims this or that. One must look at the record of each party and its voting members in Congress and see how (and whether) a political platform is actually advanced.

We mustn’t place our trust “in the princes of men” but in God. Before kingdoms can change, men must change – and that begins within each and every one of us.

People who don’t this in the GOP should be primaried. The squishy moderate relativism doesn’t work anymore.

Actually, the debate will be over when Trump gets us blown up or tanks the economy or both . . . shouldn’t have long to wait now . . .

People have been saying this since last November. I thought America was supposed to implode the day after he took office, the way people were carrying on. I don’t see anything happening except the news media reporting every time he tweets or opens his mouth like they expect the smoking gun to come out.
