I would also add that helping the poor can be done through the state and/or without the state. I would suggest that to the extent we are doing our religion through the state, we have to be mindful that we are taking off others. I think it is much better to help the poor outside of the state, so we are not taking off others. Abortion on the other hand is an issue inextricably linked to the state because the state legalises and facilitates it.

The point is, if you say you are catholic and pro life, but support a political party that not only opposes respect for all life, but is actively promoting racism, violence and hatred, and dismantling the foundation of our democracy- our constitution, and condones mass killings, then you need to do a serious honest private examination of conscience with your pastor. That’s all I can say. Ask your pastor. By God’s grace you will learn discernment. And now, God bless us all, good night.

how do you renconcile your catholic faith with these democratic platform items:
pre-marital sex
condoms and birth control
morning after pill on demand
gay marriage
government funded abortion
people have the right to marry the person they love.
lgbt rights trump religious freedom
transgender bathrooms and showers
contraception mandate against faith-based groups like little sisters of the poor
no role of religion in government
appoint pro-abortion judges
no or limited school choice
