Can Catholics participate in yoga?

Think sharply: What is less likely to please Christ, doing some stetching exercises called “Yoga” or going around an internet forum insinuating other people lack in common sense and devotion to God?

You’ve been acting as a glaring example for Matthew 7:6 throughout this thread, but most especially lately.

Furthermore, now I know why American college students rank in the bottom 5 tier in academic literacy of all industrialized nations… there was a time when this nation used to hold the top 5 position.

You know if he’s trying to prove the inferiority of education in his country, he need only use himself as an example.

And apparently, somebody needs to know the difference between what is holy and what is self-righteous arrogance posing as holiness. The Pharisees had plenty of the latter didn’t they?

I think you should not react with personal insults (ad hominem). This is a discussion about yoga and Catholicism. This is not against you or against anybody else, this is just a subject we have different opinions on, and that can be discussed with dignity. It is not fair and christlike to allude to the academical performance of a person you do not even KNOW.

Btw, grades do say very little about actual intelligende or emotional intelligence, you can get rather good grades by putting in a lot of work and memorizing without actually knowing much.

In my case though, I’ve yet to see any sound reasoning against the separation of physical posture and abstract meaning. I wasn’t even a top student but even I can see the simple logic that there’s really no significant or meaningful connection between concept and form. People really just like making such connections and the proof of such connections’ superficiality is that one is always free to sever them.
 
Well, can we all agree that golf is demonic? i mean, there is something there that is just evil…
 
Golf may not be demonic exactly, but at the very least I can easily imagine purgatory as an extremely long golf game 🙂
 
I would stay away from yoga. Yoga has a pagan background and is a form of Hindu worship. To practice the religion of yoga spiritually, is to deny Jesus Christ. Also, to practice the so-called “modern” yoga is harmful as this can push you into a “new age” style of thinking which is contrary to the teachings of the Church.

It’s more the “spiritual” aspects that can be harmful, than the “physical” aspects of stretching and so on.

So do wedding rings, the Christmas tree, certain classics and mythologies demanded for college-level reading, a majority of names on both the months and dates…

And you can’t separate the two? I distinctly remember a great deal of demonstration in the last pages or so on how easily that can be done.
