Can doing what I Assume is wrong be a sin?

Catholic Moral Theology would say that yes the choice is mortal sin…and if it carried to action that yes that is a mortal sin. For it is a grave matter (you are afterall doing what you believe is mortal sin) done with full knowledge and deliberate consent.

But Yes of course “objectively” the action does not become “a grave matter” when it is not…

Subjectively the person commits a mortal sin…

Not sure your question. But it perhaps it is answered above in the thread.

Mortal sin is when one has grave matter, full knowledge and complete consent.

Well you’re doing the right thing investigating. You are required to educate yourself with formal Christian/Catholic moral teaching. Look up stuff like “invincible ignorance” and study it. All the catechism stuff people posted is right on, and the Knight guy’s posts too. Because you see, if you don’t care enough to investigate when it’s a sin it means you don’t care about the truth. Researching will result in a properly-formed consience, and once properly formed you need to always follow it even if you are actually wrong. Also to mention an erroneous conscience can take many forms, even including something called “scrupulousity”. It’s very interesting stuff, keep learning and keep praying.
