What do you mean?

Do you mean can a Catholic person be a practicing Homosexual and in good standing with the Church?

Or do you mean

Can a Catholic person be a non-practicing (chaste) Homosexual and in good standing with the Church?

Peace,

Absolutely, but if they are acting out on their homosexual urges, they are in sin and need to go repent and to confession. Of course, this is true for ANY sin, which is why this question always makes me nuts and brings certain…unsavory and uncharitable opinions out of the woodwork…you’ll see.

I mean a practicing homosexual, not someone with SSA just.
They can be Catholic, but they will be in a state of mortal sin and will not be allowed to receive Holy Communion. Until/unless they confess their sins and remain in a state of Grace.

So I can’t recieve communion?

It’s just like an adulterer, or fornicator.

They can be Catholic, but can not receive the sacraments w/o repentence and confession.

If they intend to continue practicing, they are barred from all sacraments.

It’s really the same as any other mortal sin.

God Bless

Considering it falls under the 6th commandment, (for practicing or acting out certain sins of sexual immorality) then…one wouldn’t be allowed to receive communion, unless going to confession, and repenting of the sin. Same holds true under that commandment for:

adultery
masturbation
fornication
certain sexual addictions, and so on…

Hope that helps.

Yes it does a bit, thank you.

I go to a gay friendly catholic church, I can’t accept communion there?

If you have committed a mortal sin, you should not receive Communion unless you confess all your mortal sins, and intend to attempt to sin no more.

Otherwise, receiving Communion is an additional mortal sin of sacrilege.

No one says it’s easy. I was in a state of mortal sin for probably 20 years. But with the help of our Lord, we can overcome.

God Bless

No, not without committing further mortal sin. No priest has the authority to change the doctrine of the Church.

Any Priest who teaches that homosexual sex is not sinful is violation the vows of his office, and is committing serious sin himself.

If you sincerely want to live according to what Christ and his Church teach, you should flee from that parish.

God Bless

If you are a practicing homosexual, or having sex outside of marriage (a marriage between one man and one woman), then no, you may not receive Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. You must go to Confession, and then remain in a state of Grace (not in a state of mortal sin) in order to receive Holy Communion.

No one can change this - it is not a parish by parish “thing”. This is God’s law, not the law of the Church.

If you are attending a “gay friendly” parish, you need to understand what that means. If they are allowing known practicing homosexuals to receive Holy Communion, they are also commiting grave mortal sin.

Get out of that parish, change your life, and come back to the Grace and Fullness of the Catholic Faith.

If it was that easy I would.

I’ve tried many times.

Broad and easy is the path that leads to destruction; narrow and difficult is the path that leads to eternal life. Sexual temptation is a very difficult thing to deal with, but the better you get at resisting temptation, the easier it is to remain in a state of grace. If you fall, go to confession (at a proper parish) - pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try again. It’s the life every Catholic is called to lead. 🙂

gay friendly interesting phrase! Is the parish in accord with the Vatican? If not (some off shoot ‘catholic’ parishes are popping up from men (and women now) who don’t follow the Vatican and the Vatican considers them to not be in communion with the universal church) then that’s a hard question to answer–because many of these ‘new’ parishes, are not following the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church. So taking communion in such churches really has no meaning, if done with the disapproval of the Vatican.

Either way–others might not know our sins, so if we go up for communion with mortal sin on our souls–then, we are the only ones who know we are in sin–and the priests, etc are none the wiser. But, if they openly express that even if one is in mortal sin, he/she can come up for communion–then, that is really a disservice to people in sin. (and to Jesus of course!) Condoning sin is really not helpful or loving, actually…I have known a few friends in the past, where I have gone to mass with them–and they would sit back in the pew, and not receive communion, as they felt they had mortal sin on their soul. Being ‘gay friendly’ might mean that they don’t condemn you due to your sin, which they shouldn’t…but really, if we know we are in mortal sin–we should be honest with ourselves, and not receive. Receiving the Eucharist really has nothing to do with what others think of you or me or anyone else–it is a personal union between you and Jesus–and thus should be taken very seriously. It’s like we ‘wed’ Him every Sunday, and wouldn’t we want our souls to be as clean for Him as possible, in the receiving of Him?

Simply put–man will always tell us what we might want to hear…but God tells us Truth. I hope that helps a little more.

There is help out there for you. I’ll see if I can find some links. No one is saying that your SSA must be erased from you - that may not be possible. But you CAN live a celibate life - and that will allow you to live fully in the Grace of Christ in His Church.
