Can God Hear Your Prayers if You are in Mortal Sin?

Bacon Man was talking to me on facebook and he was wondering if it’s possible to pray for others if you are living in mortal sin or can you only pray for your own soul. What do you think?

Yes. Jesus even answered the ‘prayers’ of the demons to let them go into the pigs…

but the best thing is to pray and seek God …the way out of mortal sin…

and “the prayers of a just man avails much” as Scripture says…
 
A person who realizes he (she if you prefer) is in a state of mortal sin has recoginized that he has a problem with the relationship between himself and God. This realization is a good thing. How many people in the world sin and do not care that they are sinning? I think that this realization is actually a gift from a loving Father, kind of like the prodical son realizing he would be better off if he returned home. If this realization leads to repentance, then all is well.

Now my opinion is that a person in deliberate mortal sin would not be inclined to pray for anyone, much less another person, but, if he did, God would most certainly hear the prayer, He hears all prayers. God would do what is best for both the person in sin and the person he is praying for, God would do this because He loves us very much and would do it out of love.

Not only that, but He WANTS to hear from such people, nothing makes Him happier than the pleas of a ‘lost sheep’
Read the story of the prodigal son. Pure LOVE of the Father

Sometimes we have to be at the bottom before God can help us. We need to be able to come to Him as a little child, all we can hope to be before His grace. But when we do…things happen !!!

Encourage ALL to pray, pray, pray. Like any good father , He loves to hear from His kids.
 
From scripture, take the example of the Pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:9-14). The tax collector was most likely an extortionist and thief. However, he humbled himself before God, standing even at a distance from the others. Since his plea was genuine, the Lord heard it. The man went home justified before God.
 
I certainly believe God hears all of our prayers. Whether or not He answers them (as only He can) is another thing. 😉

Correct me if I’m wrong, but do you guys think our prayers for other people are efficacious for them at all though if we are in the state of mortal sin? Based off my understanding of Church teaching, we are separated from the mystical body of Christ when we commit mortal sin. Thus, one of the resultants is that God’s spirit has left us and we can no longer live a grace-filled life where are prayers and penances are meritorious/efficacious for others and even for ourselves, correct? I think I had read somewhere in a particular Saint’s writings (can’t remember who) where the saint saw people praying, and these people’s guardian angel were making logs/notes of all the peoples prayers, but the one who was in mortal sin, the guardian angel was just looking sad and couldn’t write down anything. Has anybody else heard/read of this? If I find the source of this, I’ll post this later.
I do, think, however, that even though if one is in mortal sin, one can possibly still receive the grace of repentence/change of heart from someone else praying or doing penances for them. I mean, God wants all men to be saved, right, which I think is why there are many stories of deathbed conversions.

Please, He WANTS to hear from us, ALL of us !
He is HERE for us, even to the point of making Himself a “prisoner of love” for us in the Holy Eucharist, and yet we tend to ignore Him.
NOT what He wants…

GO to Him. He takes us each, JUST AS WE ARE…
 
If he had repented with his whole heart, God would have heard Hitler’s prayers. Stalin’s prayers. Pol Pot’s prayers. Mao Tse Dung’s prayers. God condemns no one. They condemn themselves through lack of repentance.

Furthermore, God will start with us, right where we are at.
IF we invite Him in.
