Can I ask a couple of stupid questions?

Look for missals at used book stores where they have Catholic books. Also check out solid websites such as the FSSP to get good information and to find out how to start getting instructions on the Mass. How blessed I was to have grown up with this holy Latin Mass! I pray that we will really see good things happen.

Same question for me, as above!
PAL - start coming to the TLM at St. Boniface in Pittsburgh. The best way to learn is simply to start assisting. After a few months, it all becomes familiar. Trust me, it doesn’t take long at all.

I have a rather wiggly 3 year old, how do you think she’d do?
I am contemplating coming next week, because I want to reconn before I bring her.

Ha! Sit next to me and my wiggly 3 year old (and his two younger brothers)! Seriously, just sit towards the back where the rest of us with young kids sit. Honestly, nobody at the TLM pays any attention to the kids. This is the kind of church that is pleased to have their young present for the Sacrifice. You don’t need to worry about anyone cold-staring you into a “cry room” or whatever they’re called.

I forgot to mention - be sure to grab one of the little red books the ushers will be handing out as you enter. These are missals with the ordinary parts of the Mass (in Latin with the English translation).

Actually, she does better sitting at the front, so she can see. Last time we sat where she couldn’t see, it was heck in a hand basket.

Last Sunday we only heard one baby cry and there were quite a few there. Children tend to behave when they see others being quiet. The lights are turned lower and it just seems that the children know they are someplace special. 👍 You night even meet some of us.😃

Something we have all seen a million times:

But it looks more and more like a viable answer for modern parishes who begin offering a TLM
Quelle chose!! Thank you for that.

Likewise, there are many churches with side altars that were never, ah, altered. True, they may now be blocked by candle racks or electric organs or (ugh!) the amps for the folk music group but one hopes these things can be worked out.

Has anyone thought about asking their parents or grandparents if they kept their missals? I have mine. DW has hers and her parents and my sister has my mother’s. A missal may be as close as your local chest of drawers.

I followed Saint_Gemma’s and St Maria’s posted links for ordering the 1962 Daily Missal (thank you both for that!) and my question is, does it matter which publisher’s Missal you get? Are all 1962 Daily Missals the same, containing the complete readings and prayers in Latin and English, or is there such a thing as an “abridged” or shorter Missal? I think I would want to buy the complete one and not a “1/2 missal”, if there is such a thing. I’m not going to order it right now since I first have to see if there will even be a traditional mass offered in my area to begin with. But if I do find a church, I will eventually want to get a 1962 Missal. Thanks for any info about this.

I haven’t seen one in years (although I have my own) but I believe you are referring to the “little missals” that one received when one made one’s first Communion years ago. The “little missals” contained all the Sunday readings but an abridged Propers of the Saints. I believe any 1962 missal you get today would be the full version. A “little missal” would still enable you to follow any Sunday TLM.

I would highly recommend the Angelus Press missal. It and the Baronius missals are the best, most complete missals you’ll find, and the Angelus is the superior of the two.

I sat in the back the first few times. I made my First Communion under the TLM in 1963, (in a church in a Pittsburgh suburb) so didn’t remember much at all. I forgot there was a genuflection during the credo and everybody was “coming up” as I was “going down”! LOL!!! I’ve gone a few times now, and I’m catching on. My convert-husband has joined me and now likes to sit near the front. We have a lot to learn, but we both love the TLM a lot. I have an old chapel veil at home (40 years old and somewhat frayed and yellowed!) that I use. God rest her soul, my mom didn’t throw out me and my sister’s veils! Now if I can only find her missal!! I remember her using it while I was using my little St. Joseph’s missal.

Anyway, if our truck is fixed by next Sunday, we’ll be going to St. Boniface too! Maybe we’ll see you there! 🙂

blessings,

I went to the Catholic bookstore here in town, they looked at me like I was crazy, and told me it was out of print. I laughed and said no it wasn’t. They asked why I needed it, and I said for attending the TLM. Someone said they didn’t offer those anymore. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I told them St. Anne’s offers it, and that there is a large Latin Mass community in Pittsburgh. They look confused. I bought my medals and left.
I don’t think I would’ve purchased anything at that store… 👍

Oh, and btw you should be able to pick up a '62 Missal from Getfed.com.
