I have met quite a few people into these things in my life, has anyone else found the same?

I don’t include starsigns as that’s miles too common to include.
I read tarot cards myself occasionally (and got told by one person here that I’m morally equivalent to a pedophile for saying it). I don’t consider it magical, though – but their use as archetypes and in giving perfectly mundane advice is another topic entirely. I don’t get into astrology at all.
what can I say to her when she says that I ought not to have a problem with reading starsigns because of the whole, wise men following a star thing?
The Magi were, in fact, astrologers, and if you’re debating her it’s going to be hard to get around that in a way that’s more satisfying than ‘well, God made an exception’. Astrology was a respected ‘science’ (more like art, perhaps) then, since people didn’t know exactly how the heavens worked. That wasn’t the only thing they did, though – think of them as artist-scientist-priests; as the intellectual elite of the Persian empire, they had functions of all three and more.

By the way, Malcolm’s pretty much completely wrong about pagans, witches, and satanists. First off, most ‘satanists’ are just atheists with an axe to grind – the name was chosen for shock value. Read up on Anton LaVey to find out more about them. Second, ‘witches’ now are a subset of pagans – many pagans get quite offended if you call them witches. The horned god, who is not worshipped by all or even a majority of pagans, isn’t really identifiable with Satan; he’s more like the Greek god Pan. Admittedly, a lot of Christian devil-imagery was also inspired by Pan, but that doesn’t make the two the same 😉

Does anyone else have an explanation for this…or is there no explanation?

I’ve explained it the best way I can but I think it’s a case of her being closed to ideas. She still sees it as a parrallel despite me telling her that it’s a prophecy and not astrology in the sense that she means it.

S
That would be rationalization for her to say that. You are trying to tell her the right thing, and she is using excuses.

The prayers of others, and the conviction of the Holy Spirit can help her. I believe there are some websites that can help her see the error in her thinking, if she is open to hearing it.

thanks Dorothy, I think as with most things…she might have to come to me rather than me to her on this one… else I may scare her off lol. I don’t think she’s ready for change…and to be honest I’m in a state of change too so I wouldn’t know quite what direction to point her in 🙂 then again I’m facing roughly the right way I suppose lol

God bless! It seems all you can do is allow the Lord to strengthen your own faith, and keep her in your prayers.

Peace,

Dorothy

The Star was an angel of God 😃 God bless!

Hi,

Me and my friends were out having dinner a few weeks ago and for some reason (Ihadn’t even thought it before) I blurted out and asked my friend if she was into witchcraft!

Then she said that she was heavily into witchcraft…but not black magic… and that it had all started in secondary school.
She went on to tell me about some spell which had won her a friend back involving planting an onion in the back garden lol.

Well I’ve resolved that I shouldn’t encourage it, although I am naturally curious when someone is different, but I’m not sure I’d like to have her in my house.

She’s a good person and we are friends but I’m a little bit unsure how seriously I should take the witchcraft. She assures me she’d never do bad magic as that would come back three times on her (kinda like karma) but I know that she reads spells most nights and does tarot cards and has dabbled in oija boards etc.

Actually now I see it in black and white it looks all so silly! But let me know what you think as it has been on my mind for a few weeks now.

Take care, S
I’m sorry that you think its silly, because it is not silly. There is no white witchcraft, there is simply witchcraft and I would race to your priest so fast without stopping. There is a serious danger to you and of course a very very serious danger to your friend. So please do not take this lightly, the devil is very very real and he is known to appear as an angel of light (white witchcraft) to confuse. You may be able to help your friend, but on your own you are probably not strong enough. The Holy Spirit has already shown a light for you to see.
God Bless your endeavours,
GraceAngel.

I’ve been told " there is no such thing as a white witch" they’re all dark underneath, I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole, two masters ? no, Jesus said so.

 If you aren’t friends with her she might put a spell on you!

So you want to know if you should be friends with this girl?

Ok, let’s take a look from another perspective.

She know’s you know she’s a witch. I am reluctant to call her Wiccan as I’ve no idea if she practices a Wiccan tradition or is more into the idea of magic and spells and whatnot.

If she were me and you started pulling back on the friendship becuase of this, it would simply put me off from the Church.
My first instinct would be this:
Well, gee thanks alot. I guess I’m not good enough for you.

If she has ANY respect for your friendship, she will likewise Not push her beliefs down your throat. And if she is, that is a reason in itself to pull away from the friendship. It would be based on her lack of respect for You as her friend and her lack of respect for your beliefs as a Catholic.
On the other hand, you don’t need to push your beliefs on her.

Didn’t Jesus say, let your light shine before men?
Just be a genuine person. Be her Friend. Invite her to Mass with you. Let her experience what you experience. Conversely, ask her questions. Find out what she believes. Why does she believe in that way.
Keep in mind, for many people witchcraft and paganism is a phase they go through on their journey to understanding themselves and understanding God(or Goddess as the case may be 😃 )
Further, she might not really know that much about the Bible to begin with, or she might know a lot, but has just felt that this is not going to work for her.
Your understanding and patience will go a lot further then running the other way and treating her as if she has the plague.
In the end, you will gain a better perspective of not just your friend but the people around you who are not of your faith.
And not only might it make you a better Christian, but if you live your own life with sincerity and love, you stand a better chance of helping others respect you and your beliefs.

***edited to add: Because of the genuine kindness shown to me by Christians, despite our differences in beliefs, it reminds me that there is still much that I can learn from them and also from their beliefs. I still refer to the Bible and have enjoyed pleasant conversations with Christians.
Just remember…you really never know what the future holds for either of you 😉

“White witchcraft” is just a silly marketing spin. Though you can distinguish a pagan from a witch from a satanist, they merge into each other. The witch worships “the horned God” or similar, but doesn’t admit that this is the same entity as the Christian devil, whilst Satanists tend to claim to be able to manipulate, not worship, demons, whom they do admit are the same as Christian evil spirits. It is a hair split, and the memberships tend to merge.

A few years ago I would have said there is no question. The problem is that now magical practices are so common that maybe we have to accept them, just as a hundred years ago you wouldn’t accept an invitation from a cohabiting couple, whilst now there is not much point taking that sort of stand.
Sorry I must disagree with you here. It is still in the best interest of all concerned to not “hang out” with those that can lead us toward evil. It is never wrong to not show approval for open sin.

Amen!

I believe the Magi studied the heavens. That would have made them astronomers not astrologers. Big difference.

In biblical times (BC) astronomers and astrologers were considered as mostly the something. Over time people came to understand that the study of the Heavens was vastly different and legitimate.

The predictions of astrologers promoted superstition and the devils work. Many people in our time just look at it as fun. But they don’t understand that evil only needs a very small opening to get in the door.

Then she said that she was heavily into witchcraft…but not black magic…
The serpent didn’t exactly tell Eve that this apple was a “black” apple either. The serpent said it was “good”.

I also say cut your ties with this one.

About the Wise Men, Abira:
As I understand it, they were scholars, educated men. They studied the forms of wisdom and knowledge they knew of. They would have seen no distinction between astrology and astromony, nor (I think) between studying the heavens and studying the patterns of weather and climate. This does not in the least justify modern astrology, nor is it evidence that astrology or magic is harmless.

Be her friend.

However, if her “witchcraft” makes you feel uncomfortable, then tell her and ask that she keep that part of her life to herself. Likewise, if she doesn’t want to hear about Catholicism, then give her the same courtesy.

Religion and politics have caused the breakup of many friendships.
