Got Questions have answers to a lot of Biblical questions. I don’t know if it’s in line with the Catholic Church and wonder if I can use it for my Bible study. Could someone help?

Got Questions is not in line with the Catholic faith and has a strong anti-Catholic bias, doctrinally if not personally.

For those still forming themselves in the faith I’d suggest at most taking its articles with a grain of salt. I won’t say I have never looked to it, but it takes some discernment, and it’s not where you go if you’re not already grounded in what the Church teaches.

Oh thanks a lot. That is enough for me. I am staying away from it then.

I’d imagine that most of the questions you have could be answered by information on CA. Until you’re more clear on Church teaching, I’d avoid sites like that which are very opposed to the Church.

Thanks for guiding me. Usually when I read old testament I found it helpful for getting the context.

Yes. That would be great. Maybe I will start another thread to get help in that regard.

Yes but what I am looking for is a reliable source which gives information on the go. Because whenever I am stuck somewhere I try to get clarification and context before I proceed.

Easiest thing is probably to just look on Catholic Answers.

That was my suggestion as well. I guess it’s not quite as concise as he’s looking for.

Sorry OP, I’m not sure of any other easy resources. There’s a Catechism app that might be useful.

Did you edit your post or did I misread it? I thought I remembered it saying “here,” by which I thought you meant the forums, not CA proper.

That site is fiercely in opposition to the Catholic church and when it comes to Catholic doctrine they get it completely wrong a lot more than right, as is usually the case for fundie sites that bash the church. Best to avoid.

I kind of lump the main site and the forums together, but in case it was unclear, I was specifically intending the main site. Sorry for the confusion!

There are so many great Catholic sites to go to: Catholic Answers, St. Paul Center, Word on Fire, etc. Go to those sites instead. 🙂

Thanks 🙂 Does any of these websites have passage by passage analysis or something like that?

No, they don’t.

The only public domain Catholic commentary on the Bible that I know of that is available freely online is the Haydock commentary:

https://www.ecatholic2000.com/haydock/title.shtml

If you are looking for free, online, verse-by-verse commentary that is in line with Catholic teaching, that’s your best bet.

Of course, I think it’s worth investing in some study Bibles, such as the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, the Didache Bible, or the Navarre commentary. No single commentary is going to give you the exhaustive and exclusive official Catholic interpretation of every verse.

Thanks. Checked the Haydock Commentary and it looks very helpful. Thanks for suggesting the study Bibles. I will check if there is any in my mother tongue, malayalam.

I would stay away, big time. They are a very anti-Catholic website and a lot of their answers attack the Catholic faith directly or jab the Church.

It is not in line with the Catholic Church. I used to use it, but I after I realized it was anti-Catholic I stopped. It also contradicts the faith on so many issues.

I’m not sure if Ignatius Press has a study guide for the Old Testament. The Didache Bible from Ignatius Press uses teachings from the Catechism of the Catholic Church as footnotes in the Bible, and it has fairly good explanations in the footnotes.
