Based on your SDA affiliation, please answer the following as you believe:
  1. Is the Catholic Church the “whore of Babylon”?
  2. Is the Pope the antichrist?
  3. If he is, which one of the 266? (if all of them, was Peter also the antichrist?)
  4. Was Ellen Gould White a true prophet?
Christ’s peace.

tell me something. do you think that the pagans was praying to trees and rock or to the God that thouse things represented?
They were praying to the actual wood and stone. The nearest thing we have today is when a child talks to her doll. But the child doesn’t actually think that the doll can hear her, whereas the ancient pagans really thought that their figures of stone and wood could hear and answer them. They didn’t believe that their idols represented spiritual beings; they really thought that the wood itself or the stone itself could hear and act. They had no concept of a spirit-world.

Ok, but where does the serpent come in then??
He has me sorely confused!😃
Actually, Dnelson meant “surely” not “sorely”. and if you want to find any Scripture he quotes, you will have to go the KJV using a concordance (Bible Gateway is a good online method for searching using key words).

The only edification that you will receive from Dnelson is listen to his arguments and then research “invincible ignorance”. You will find that Dnelson is a walking talking example of invincible ignorance. He will most likely find his way into heaven because he is utterly incapable of recognizing or believing the truth. There are very few SDAs who convert to Catholicism for this very reason. Those of us who have converted to the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church have only done so as the result of a huge unexplainable gift of God’s grace.

Even if Jesus Himself came down and personally explained all these things to Dnelson, Dnelson was assume that Jesus was the devil disguised as an angel of light to lead him astray. Not because Dnelson is bad, you understand, but because he is the pitiful victim of invincible ignorance.

I think they believe in Hell but it won’t be eternal. God will get rid of it when Christ returns as opposed to allowing everyone there to suffer for all eternity.
No, SDAs believe that when you die you remain in the grave unconscious until the second coming. Then you raise from the dead, the saved go to heaven. One thousand years later the lost and the devil and his angels burn up on earth. The saved return with the Triune God and the heavenly host and inhabit the new earth. This is a very simplistic explanation and I have left parts out. It gets complicated as you can see.

Where do these people come from? Don’t they have some other writings that they believe are inspired as well? Kinda like the Book of Mormon but for SDA’s?

Zach
You are referring to the writings of their prophetess Ellen G. White.

Do they put them on the same level as the Bible? Do they get any doctrine from it?

Thanks!
Zach

P.S. I know it’s off topic but I’m curious 🙂

cant stay away cant you. will i will tell you why you keep coming back. it is because you lose the debate. you see you want to prove a point but every thing you throw out there dissolves in your sight.

I’m guessing you have a Girl friend or a Wife. ok we are going to jump start this from here.
your wife comes to you and say: Baby i love you so much i would give my life for you. you are the best thing that happen to me. i don’t know what i would do without you, i promise with all my heart to love you with every fiber of my being until death do us part.
ans she make good on her promise, she fills your life with love, joy, purpose, meaning and every thing in between. she have you walking on the moon. you cant even express what you feels for her. the word you try to put together just don’t seams to do justice to what you feel for her. so all you could think to say is: I love you and i would give my life for you with out a second though. you see you have to associate what you feel for her with an action. words just can’t express it, so you tell her what you would do. with tears in your eyes and a knot in your throat you say: “Love”, i would die for you, yo have filled my life with joy i never dreamed possible, you, you, you … and you cant even finish what you wanted to say. the emotion associated with those words are just too strong. and you melt in her arms.
she does not say anything, but in her eyes you know she understood every thing you did not say…
OK I believe the analogy here is that the love of God represents the relationhsip between this guy and his wife.
well hate to put an end to the love story but lets get back to the point of the mater.
there is an accident and she did not make it. you are devistated, your whole world is ripe out from under you. you are lost in the middle of the ocean, every thing you stood for seams to b violently shaken to peaces. it is hard for you to assimilate the reality of this atrocity. you feel like you are losing your mind, nothing makes sense anymore.
the only thing that gives you comfort is her memory, she is not here but you can still remember her last words. now a light come on in your head. she had writen you many letters.
in desperation you go to the garage ans start to dig all around until you find them…every day you read one or 2 letters. one day a friend come and tell you. you are worshiping what she said to you. you are turning her words into an idol.
So, she passes away and you are left alone except for the letters she has written to you, and let me guess…the letters represent the King James Bible.
The analogy fails right here because while the man and his wife are separated by death. We are not separated from Christ. He is with us always, and the Holy Spirit guides us and our Church…We are not alone like the poor man with only a handful of letters. The scriptures are much more of course but they are not all that is left to us. Your Catholic friend would tell you that your love is alive. That many of your friends share the same love, and can testify. We don’t have to separate the word of God from his Church they are both alive and with us.

Oh that’s right. The damned would be included in the soul sleep as well. I was sure though that I read they all got cast into the lake of fire at least once and then God got rid of it when Christ returned. It’s been so long since I checked a few of their beliefs out, I’m getting a bit mixed up I guess. I had a co-worker who was sda about 7 years back. It was the first time I’ve ever encountered one to be honest. I don’t believe I’ve heard of the Sabbath still in effect with certain Christians before that time though.

They claim not. They claim that her writings are a lesser light leading them to the greater light of the Bible. But it is a fine line, because she definitely impacts their interpretation of the Bible.

My chaplain at work is SDA and I sincerely love him, but the SDA theology is so distorted by the teachings of Ellen Gould White. Just Google her and read up a little history. A coma-inducing head injury and later evidence and allegations of mercury poisoning in her family’s hat-making business. All of this before she began receiving “visions” and prophesying. Such false prophets are prophesied in Matthew 7 and 24, as well as Mark 13, 2nd Peter and 1st John. Yet, despite all of these warnings, it seems they always infect those “other” denominations and not one’s own.

Either there is an authoritative Church, or there is none at all.

The Holy Spirit unites.
The demon divides.

No, they do not believe that. Someone misconstruing their beliefs may have said that and that is what you read, but no, they do not believe that.

I was born and raised SDA and minored in religion at an SDA university. I certainly don’t need to Google EGW. :rotfl:

Ok thanks for clearing that up anyways. I forgot you were a former sda there till I read it again. 😉

Ya Think??!! :yup: I cant believe people are still engaging him in dialogue as if doing so might accomplish something fruitful. Give it up folks! You are not dealing with someone neither open to nor capable of discerning the truth! A few things are now perfectly clear:
  • We would be justified in believing he is not playing with a full deck
  • He cannot distinguish between believing something and being able to justify that belief with facts rather than more conjecture.
  • He is incapable of reproof
  • There is no more point in dialogue - he was misrepresented by the OP as " He is a good man of faith and comes from the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He is seeking the truth…"
Blessings!

Hi dnelson001,

I see that you have your hands full here with everyone, but I would like to slow the discussion down just a bit. You make many claims and declarations, and I just have to say that you are uninformed. That is ok, many people are. But if you are indeed interested in truth, then I suggest that you read the link below regarding Fatima, and the official interpretation by the Church. This link below will correct your erroneous views. Whether you believe what is said or not, at least you will be correctly informed.

Please read this, I’m not asking you to believe it, just read the accurate information…which isn’t quite as exciting as the false understandings surrounding this event. And then I would like to return to my questions to you regarding the 10 commandments and why they were given as shown in the book of Dueteronomy.

Hi Patrick Murebil.

i was looking for a post by marsha that someone was referring to and i found your post. i’m sorry i cound not get back to you sooner regarding your post.

i read the link you gaive me hopping to find out if every thing was there. theas are not all the fatima letters. there are meny more.
in the link that you give me, Maria (the last living servival, well i think she is still alive) said that she had tell the story many times, if i recall correctle (it was a lot to read). were are they?
how can i believe something after it has happen as facts of some prophetic knowledge. why hide it for so long? did you read anything in that text that was going to turn the worls upside down? i did not read any hting in there that would need to be kept secrete.
that is most likely one of the statement that Lucia made but it is not the real deal.
the vatican is hiding something you can be sure about it.

check this out: tldm.org/News5/blunders.htm

God bless.

That would mess up their false predictions even further. Another issue is that the monk/mathematician Dionysis Exeguus who calculated the AD years in the 6th century, made a mistake, and when the SDA’s predict “the future” don’t take that mistake into account. Their predictions are therefore destined to fail - every time.

placido

He was out by four years - so calculations based on his calendar will be out by four years. So 1843, was really 1847. This also means that the 1260 so-called “prophetic years” when the Church was “in the wilderness” can’t be reckoned from 538 to 1798, but from 542 to 1802. Which puts out the wounding unto death of the First Beast by four years.

BTW - the “investigative judgement” is based on a misunderstanding of Jewish worship. SDA theology calculates it as rendering two by 1,150 "“prophetic years”, on the assumption that thesanctuary was cleansed once each day for 2,300 days. In fact, it was cleansed twice on reach day - which means there should be 1,150 “prophetic years”, & not 2,300 of them. So unless the SDAs have got rid of the doctrine of the “investigative judgement”, they are in trouble. Here it is:
