Oh my-we’re pulling out all the stops now. There is the version of theten commandments I am sure you beleive is correct:

  1. *]You shall have no other gods but me.
*]You shall not make unto you any graven images
*]You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
*]You shall remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
    *]Honor your mother and father
    *]You shall not murder
    *]You shall not commit adultery
    *]You shall not steal
*]You shall not bear false witness
*]You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor

And here is the cathiolic/Lutheran Version:

    1. *]I, the Lord, am your God. You shall not have other gods besides me. You shall not make unto you any graven images
*]You shall not take the name of the Lord God in vain
*]Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day
*]Honor your father and your mother
      *]You shall not kill
      *]You shall not commit adultery
      *]You shall not steal
*]You shall not bear false witness
*]You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife
*]You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods

Now if we use you rationale you have deleted the ninth commandment!

Of course its all nonsense because there were no numbers given OR verses given when Scripture was written. In fact the commandment are the same-Catholics combine 1 & 2 , Protestant combine 9&10.

You have been shown that Sunday was celebretaed as the Sabbath almost from the day Christ ascended to heaven-your only rebuttal is to claim superior interpreation skills and claim that there is no record of Christians celebrating Sabbath on Saturday becuase Christians who clebretated the Sabbath on saturday were murdered by those who did it on Sunday.

    1. And if we are pulling all stops out. It never said Thou shall not Kill… It says Thou Shall not Murder… There is a big difference.

no matter what Translation you use, The Orginal Text in Hebrew says Murder.

But then again we are argueing with some one who does not Believe and is a liar so… We should just Ignore him… And discuss things that truly matter that Like what Jesus did for us on the Cross or the Readings in the MIssal today… .

First things first. My interpretation is based on what the church has taught me. Revealed to Christ’s church by the Holy Spirit.
what interpretation friend? i dont see any interpretation of anything. what i see are a few statemenst that you cannot explain.
OK , The problem with your interpretation is that if the woman giving birth to Jesus only symbolizes the church then what you are telling me is that the Church is giving birth to Jesus?? How can that be?? It can’t. The woman can indeed represent the Church, but that can’t be the whole interpretation. The woman also by allusion is the virgin Mary who is depicted with a crown of 12 stars. Stars that represent the 12 Apostles. The dragon is Herod who slew the holy Innocents. The Church honors Mary as queen of Heaven and this is scripture that supports it.
I dont mean to sound rude my friend but you dont have anything to say.
I dont think you are in any position to come here and try to tell me what you think. first of all you cant think for yourself. you are not permitted to use you brain. what you do is take what they give you and take a seat.
tell me something, did i make anything up with what i said here? what part of that did you not understand?
tell me something else? where do you find mary in all this. where in the bible do you find mery with a crown? i know you believe that mary was a queen. tell me wee did you get that information from? i see a lot of your pictures of Mary and she is dect with gold. where did that come from? i know you have no idea. so all you can say is the church said so.
come on im not asking for much. all I’m asking for is for you to tell me what it mean.
I’m not asking you to make anything up, for pease sake all you have to do is explain to me what your church say it means. this is why i said that you dont know what you believe.
none of you so far can explain what it mean, every thing is cut and past.
it is so plain to you but you cant explain it. think you can just copy past something.
tell me something, when you go to do an school exam you can probable cheat and get the answers but that does not mean you know what you are doing.

you speak as thou im asking you to make it up for me. no, im not asking that, im asking you to explain it. if you copy past i cant ask you anything, bacause you dont know anything.
Stars that represent the 12 Apostles
so the 12 disciples was arounf before Jesus was born. oh how i wish i could ask you some questions. but whats the use?
The dragon is Herod who slew the holy Innocents
the same chapter tells you who the dragon is. it is the devil but the vehicle that he used was Rome, not a man.
i dont know how you got him in thwe and neither do you so i will not ask you.
The Church honors Mary as queen of Heaven and this is scripture that supports it
this queen of heaven that you talk bout that has a crown and dect with gold it none other than Semiramis the wife of Nimrod.
she is a real queen that was dect in gold and had a crown and who cliamed that she was the queen of heaven, she also said she had a virgin birth. her son was called tamus and he was suppose to the the savior of the world.
i bet you did not know that. look it up and see how stickingly familier every thing is to you.
heres is what God had to say about your Queen of heaver

Jeremiah 7:18
The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

you think this queen of heaven is new? no my friend it was long before jesus was born.

i will let you in on a little secret. before Jesus comes back you will see with your own eyes this woman standing on a moon and clothed with the sun. Literally she will say that the CC is the true church. There will be supernatural signs in the heaven and a celestial being so bright that you will not be able to look upon him, He will appear in the sky saying that he is Jesus and that he changed the Sabbath to Sunday. He will go to the holy Sea and sit on his throne and give the pope his keys.
He will order Adventist people to be killed because we cause trouble to the earth.
We will not be able to buy or sell and we will not have any rights what so ever.
You believe in all these apparitions of Mary as signs that you have the right church? Most of you have not seen anything yourself but that will soon change. The day is coming when everybody will see and hear Mary speak in the skies.
If you think we don’t know and believe that these apparitions takes place you need to take a look at what we believe.
Read the last 5 chapters of the great controversy and then you will have some idea of what we know is going to happen.

1 timothy 3:15. But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

The church of course is the pillar and foundation of the truth. What did you thing I would say?
Of course now this raises another question. What church? Lets see if the bible points us in the right direction…

Before the death of Jesus:

Mark 6:2. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

Luke 4:16. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Luke 4:31. And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

Luke 6:6. And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.

Luke 13:10 - 12.
10: And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
11: And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
12: And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
First off, this means nothing since the Sabbath was still in effect until Christ had risen.
After the death and resurrection of Jesus:

Luke 23:56. And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Again, means nothing since the completion of Christ’s work was yet to be fullfilled till He had risen.
Acts 13:14. But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
This was not the Church. This was the Apostles going into the synagogue…why? Because that’s where the Jews gathered, so they naturally would have more time to preach the Word of God. Other days they worked remember.
Acts 13:27. For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
Has nothing to do with the Church.
Acts 13:42. And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
Again, that’s where the Jews gathered so more time to preach the Word of God. Other days they worked remember.
Acts 13:44. And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
Again, that’s where the Jews gathered so more time to preach the Word of God. Other days they worked remember.
Acts 15:21.
20: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
21: For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
Only tells us what the Jew did and not the Christians.
Acts 16:13. And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
Again, that’s where the Jews gathered so more time to preach the Word of God. Other days they worked remember.
Acts 17:2. And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Again, that’s where the Jews gathered so more time to preach the Word of God. Other days they worked remember.
Acts 18:4. And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
Again, that’s where the Jews gathered so more time to preach the Word of God. Other days they worked remember.
Tell me SimonArizona, what day are they worshipping on? come on, you can do it.
They aren’t worshipping, they were Preaching. They broke bread on the Lord’s day. That was worshipping. 😉
The answer is the church that keeps the Sabbath day.
You proved nothing with those verses you quoted.
I have given you quite a few verses that let you know what the bible says. And this is just in the New Testament.
The only thing you gave was your poor fallible man made interpretation.
Please give me 2 text that say that we should worship on Sunday? Or that Jesus said that we should worship on Sunday? If you are right you should be able to find many more that what I found.
What good would it do. The Lord’s Day to you isn’t Sunday.

dnelson, move yourself away from such heresey and come back to the one Flock of Christ where you belong. 👍

what interpretation friend? i dont see any interpretation of anything. what i see are a few statemenst that you cannot explain…
Why don’t you just say you don’t agree?
I dont mean to sound rude my friend but you dont have anything to say.I dont think you are in any position to come here and try to tell me what you think…
Oh I think you mean to be rude. This is a Catholic forum. Why wouldn’t a Catholic be in a position to speak here?
tell me something else? where do you find mary in all this. where in the bible do you find mery with a crown? i know you believe that mary was a queen. tell me wee did you get that information from? i see a lot of your pictures of Mary and she is dect with gold. where did that come from? i know you have no idea. so all you can say is the church said so…
Mary is found in the Book of St John’s Apocalypse wearing a crown. Why don’t you try and refute the argument that the woman represents Mary, the mother of Jesus? You can’t pick and choose which scripture you want to believe and which you don’t…Well I guess you can but not with any intelectual integrity.“1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars”
you speak as thou im asking you to make it up for me. no, im not asking that, im asking you to explain it. if you copy past i cant ask you anything, bacause you dont know anything…
Really, when you insult people like this what you are really saying is " I don’t have a good answer to come back with, so I’ll just insult you". You are attacking me instead of the arguments at hand.
this queen of heaven that you talk bout that has a crown and dect with gold it none other than Semiramis the wife of Nimrod.

Now who is the one making stuff up here

heres is what God had to say about your Queen of heaver
Your information comes from the already disproven ‘Two Babylon’, the Elders of Zion of the fundamentalist world. It was actually mainstream Protestants who exposed the lies and ravings of that book.
You are playing a very dangerous game equating the things of God to the devil.

Twisting scripture again?

Aside from the fact you have ignored responding to Posts #99, 116, 117, 139, 140, 141 Your method of trying to justify your judgment of the Catholic Church because of the Sabbath is a denial that Jesus IS the Lord of the Sabbath as well as the teachings of the apostles, and an opinion in favor of the Pharisees. How can you claim to be Christian yet deny Him?

You poorly try to justify this by referring to verses that refer to the apostles and Christ going to the gatherings of the Jews on the Sabbath to teach them when these verses have nothing to do with any declaration by Christ of the continuance of the Sabbath or after the resurrection of Christ or the fact that Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath. Our Lord Jesus Christ declared that He was Lord of the Sabbath and that its observance was at His disposal;
***Matthew CH12; 1 ***1 At that time Jesus was going through a field of grain on the sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick the heads 2 of grain and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “See, your disciples are doing what is unlawful to do on the sabbath.” 3 He said to them, 3 “Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry, 4 how he went into the house of God and ate the bread of offering, which neither he nor his companions but only the priests could lawfully eat? 5 4 Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbath the priests serving in the temple violate the sabbath and are innocent? 6 I say to you, something greater than the temple is here. 7 5 If you knew what this meant, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned these innocent men. 8 6 For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath.”

***MARK CH2; 24 At this the Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?” 25 He said to them, “Have you never read what David did ***15 when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry? 26 How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the bread of offering that only the priests could lawfully eat, and shared it with his companions?”

LUKE CH6; 5 Then he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath.” 6 On another sabbath he went into the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. 7 The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely to see if he would cure on the sabbath so that they might discover a reason to accuse him. 8 But he realized their intentions and said to the man with the withered hand, “Come up and stand before us.” And he rose and stood there. 9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?” 10 Looking around at them all, he then said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so and his hand was restored. 11 But they became enraged and discussed together what they might do to Jesus."

**MARK CH2; 27 Then he said to them, "The sabbath was made for man, 16 not man for the sabbath. 28 17 That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath." **
**JOHN CH 5; *8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your mat, and walk.” 9 Immediately the man became well, took up his mat, and walked. Now that day was a sabbath. 10 So the Jews said to the man who was cured, “It is the sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to carry your mat.” 11 He answered them, “The man who made me well told me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who told you, ‘Take it up and walk’?” 13 The man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away, since there was a crowd there. 14 ***6 After this Jesus found him in the temple area and said to him, “Look, you are well; do not sin any more, so that nothing worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went and told the Jews that Jesus was the one who had made him well. 16 Therefore, the Jews began to persecute Jesus because he did this on a sabbath. 17 7 But Jesus answered them, “My Father is at work until now, so I am at work.” 18 For this reason the Jews tried all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the sabbath but he also called God his own father, making himself equal to God. 19 8 Jesus answered and said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, a son cannot do anything on his own, but only what he sees his father doing; for what he does, his son will do also. 20 For the Father loves his Son and shows him everything that he himself does, and he will show him greater works than these, so that you may be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, 9 so also does the Son give life to whomever he wishes.

Continued…

continued from previous post;

*JOHN CH5: 22 Nor does the Father judge anyone, but he has given all judgment *10 to his Son, 23 so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life.”

**As a consequence, the early Church, in order to distinguish itself from the worship of the Synagogue, was free to depart from the Jewish Sabbath and worship God on another day of the week. This is evident from the words of St. Paul to the Colossians: **

“Therefore do not let anyone condemn you in matters of food and drink or of observing festivals, new moons, or sabbaths.”

There is no command or injunction in the New Testament that the followers of Christ must continue to observe Saturday. If Christ Himself had the power to “dispose” of the Sabbath, so too does His Church which is His Body. The power of the Church to make such a change is specifically found in Our Lord’s words to St. Peter:

**(St. Matt. 16:19). “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” **

**From the outset of the Church’s history Christians replaced the Sabbath day with a new day of public worship in commemoration of Christ’s resurrection from the dead––the Day of the Lord. This day is Sunday, the first day of the week:

(St. Luke 24:1-2). * “But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb.”* **

The following points out the Heavenly Father gave all power to the Son including the Sabbath…

*Colossians CH1; 18 “And he is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he may hold the primacy: 19 Because in him, it hath well pleased the Father, that all fullness should dwell; 20 And through him to reconcile all things unto himself, making peace through the blood of his cross, both as to the things that are on earth, and the things that are in heaven.” ***

You really need to stop and rethink tweaking the word of God.

I think this thread is proof that conversations that begin with a list of 20+ questions are seldom fruitful.

Hi Dchsknight, lets see what the bible has to say about this shall we…
i just had to come back and finish ypur reply to this post, because i did not answer one part of it the last time.
**
My Authority is the God of the Old testament and New Testament, Jesus Christ also named, Eloheim, Jehovah Jirah/Neise, The name that is spelled out int he Tetragramaton letters, which is the four letters that make up the name of God that the Jews would not say, because they respected him so much and feared him. That is my Authority and not a Book. If a book is my Authority, then that is Idolatry because i have placed Higher value in a Book then Christ and if you understood just who Jesus was, Then you would Understand that the Bible is also the Authroity in spirit, because John 1:1 states In the Begining was the word, the word was with God and the Word was God. Then the Word became Flesh." So Bible=God=Jesus. Get over yourself.
**

this statement is nothing short of amazing.
you said if you follow the bible you are committing idolatry but you think it nothing to kneel down worship and pray to a statue.
tell me when was the last time you said a prayer to Jesus? and please don’t say i pray to Mary and that is the same as praying to Jesus because it is not. that is a pray to Mary, not to Jesus.

and i dont think it is a problem with God to idolize his word if God himself say that his word is over all his names. so that means that Eloheim, Jehovah Jirah/Neise, Jesus and every other one that you can find is under his word.

Psalm 138:2. I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

but how could you know that. the church did every thing possible to get rid of the bible when when that failed; she made her own. read a real bible you will learn something i promise you.

to follow Gods word is idolatry but to kneel down, pray and worship man made idols and shrines is acceptable to God is what your church teach is what you are telling me?
God forbid…

you know? i don’t judge you… you don’t know any better, that is what you were tough. and you are not permitted to question any question.

don’t you think it odd that a practicing priest can join and help manage a Masonic lodge and not be excommunicated but if you profess faith in the bible you will be. i would think about that.

well it has been fun: God bless ans take care

dnelson, when you post things like this (which are completely false and misleading statements), it gives me the distinct impression that you simply do not care to understand what Catholics believe and why. Are you only here to “convert” us “unsuspecting” Catholics?

In the beginning of the thread, you seemed genuinely interested in understanding what Catholics believe and why. I do not get that impression from your later posts.

Hi Dchsknight, lets see what the bible has to say about this shall we…
You seem to be purposely avoiding the issues of:

Which books belong in the bible? How do we know this?
Is the bible the word of God? If so, how do we know?

The Bible seems to be the foundational unit of your theology and practice of faith. Can you not justify your relying exclusively on the Bible? How can this not be a simple question for you to answer???

Peace and God bless

"We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead."
– Letter of Barnabas 15:6-8 (A.D. 74); just one of many early writings indicating the infant church in Apostolic times set apart Sunday for the public and solemn worship of God.
Jesus told us what commemorated his resurrection:

Acts 1:21, 22
21: Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22: Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

Romans 6:4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

col 2:12. Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

baptism is what the bible says is a memorial of his death and resurrection.

you hath better have a good understanding of what and why you do things because one day you will have to explain to God why you choose to follow mans word and not the word that he has set above all his names.
on that day there will be no copy past.

may God bless and guide you friend

You seem sincere, please take no offense to the following:

Let me ask you these questions and see where it takes you.

What is the Bible (basically)?
Who called for its formation?
By whom was it compiled and initially translated as the Bible?
Who determined the canons?
What was the intended use of the Bible?
Why was the Bible introduced?

If you know the answers to these questions then you have some basics as a foundation to grow from.
this is a good question. please give me a few day to see what i find and get back to you ok.
and you can believe that i will be back with facts. and if i cant find anything I’m not afaied to say i don’t know.
so give me a few days ok.

thank you for your patience with me.and may God bless you.

but how could you know that. the church did every thing possible to get rid of the bible when when that failed; she made her own. read a real bible you will learn something i promise you.
Some evidence please. When did the Church try to “get rid of the bible”. some historical facts from an unprejudiced source.

Yes, we would all like to hear you respond to these questions.

Oh, ok. After all your insults you need a few days for this? I am asking what you know now with all you claim to know biblically. Not what you can offer for a response after discussing it with someone else and tweaking out an answer.

I have to choose my words very carefuly because you are treading on dangerous ground. You are and forever will be damned for things that you have said here. You speak of things that which you know nothing about.

Just so you understand. you are the one reading a false Bible. you want to talk about reading a real bible then look at this. codexsinaiticus.org/en/… And Guess what … it has the books of the bible your KJV is missing. IT is a Real bible. that is were our bible comes from. Stop lying and stop trying to twist and Distort the word of God to fit your finite and Futile mind. And if you really want to read a Protestant bible, the KJV is the most Inaccurate and false out of them all so good luck with that.

Second I pray to Christ and Christ alone. He is the only one i pray to! i do not kneel before any statue but i will for ever bend my knee before my King who is in the only church he built. the Only Church that has the authority of Christ, and that is The Catholic Church. No other Church is of God, The SDA is a lie form the devil!

I Follow a God not a book, although that God is revealed through a Book, the Book is not my God. A cult would say the book is a god.

AND NO a priest may not join a Masonic lodge where the hell are you getting that Idea…

dnelson001;5511494:
Do the SDA’s have a recognized leader for us to go to? Or are you presenting yourself as a self-appointed spokesperson??
yes we do have a leader, glad you asked that question. our leader is the bible. you can ask him any question you like 24/7.
and for the self apointed spokesperson am not. i don’t put my trust in any leader like you do. if any of our leaders step out of line with the bible i would condemn he or she as well.
you are trying to pin something on me that you are doing. you cant answer any question with out checking with what your leader says. most of you would not even venture to try and explain it because you don’t feel like you can, and i cant say i blaim you. hat is too confusing for you to understand.
Ummmm, any chance you want to finish the thread you started? You had some questions which you wanted answered. Several of them have already been answered clearly and have shown that you were misled through your “studies”. Do you have any other questions or not? This forum is called CATHOLIC ANSWERS for a reason - we are here to provide ANSWERS to your questions about the Catholic faith.
well i’m still waiting on your explanation of my first question
If anyone would like to see a summary of the brief history of the Seventh Day Adventist movement review this brief tract from the Library:
catholic.com/library/Seventh_Day_Adventism.asp
any claims about my church I’m happy to read. i most say i’m impressed with that description of my church.

Adventist Propaganda:
why a publiching hous has to say it s adventist i really don’t understand. does that make the press not adventist.
well if you think about it a little it should not be too hard for us to figure it out. we are termed by Catholics and most of the Christian world as a cult. i recall that expresion many times on thing site. so you cant say i’m wrong.
our gold is to put the truth in the people hand and let them make up their mind as intelligent people.
if we are a cult then all you have to do is read the first page of a book and you will know what it is all bout.
you seems to believe that you are a strong catholic and unmovable in your faith. tell you what. why don’t you read the The Desire of the Ages or The Great Controversy and make up your mind.
do you think you are alone? no Sunday keeping denomination would want you to read any of those books.
sense you are such a strong and faithful Catholic and you cannot be deceived then why not read one of them and for yourself and then comment on what it say. or do you think it will put a hocus pocus on you?
i promise you if you read 2 chapter of any of the books you will most likely end up reading all of it. so why don’t you put it to the test?
you can read the 2 books on line:
The Desire of the Ages and The Great Controversy
In short, they started as a cult in the US in the late 1800’s under the leadership of someone who was under the delusion that he knew the date of the end times. When it didnt happen - shocking isnt it  - they reformed themselves under another banner with a slightly different date and…you’d best be seated for this shocker…it didn’t happen again. Not to be dissuaded from their clearly uninspired leadership, they formulated anew under yet another leader who claimed to have visions. They are, in general, rabid anti-Catholics. I guess if I had any question for our pleasant guest - who seems to be a minority SDA - that question is whether he denies anything presented in the tract.

we are a cult huh? it is obviously you don’t know what the meaning of the word is…
well let me look it up for you my friend:

In traditional usage, the cult of a religion, quite apart from its sacred writings (“scriptures”), its theology or myths, or the personal faith of its believers, is the totality of external religious practice and observance, the neglect of which is the definition of impiety. Cult in this primary sense is literally the “care” (Latin cultus) owed to the god and the shrine. In the specific context of Greek hero cult, Carla Antonaccio has written, “The term cult identifies a pattern of ritual behavior in connection with specific objects, within a framework of spatial and temporal coordinates. Ritual behavior would include (but not necessarily be limited to) prayer, sacrifice, votive offerings, competitions, processions and construction of monuments. Some degree of recurrence in place and repetition over time of ritual action is necessary for cult to be enacted, to be practiced”[1]

Cult is embodied in ritual and ceremony. Its present or former presence is made concrete in temples, shrines and churches, and cult images (denigrated by Christians as “idols”) and votive deposits at votive sites.

By extension, “cult” has come to connote the total cultural aspects of a religion, as they are distinguished from others through change and individualization.

The comparative study of cult practice is part of the disciplines of the anthropology of religion and the sociology of religion, two aspects of comparative religion. In the context of many religious organisations themselves, the study of cultic or liturgical practises is called liturgiology.
