I hope that I’m posting this in the right place, Planned Parenthood falls under social UNjustice, but if a MOD chooses to move it I apologize. 🙂

I was SO very excited to see the little girls working hard and selling cookies outside my local grocery store, but then a friend of mine mentioned that Girl Scouts donates money to Planned Parenthood. I had no idea about this, and…well, this just stinks. I, of course, do not want ANY of my money going to Planned Parenthood, so I’m wondering if any of you knows if they do or don’t actually donate money to PP?

I just love those cookies and I was a Brownie as a kid and I know that being in that organization did a lot of good for me, but that doesn’t excuse this if they are donating.

sigh I want my peanut butter patties. 😦

I found this article.
Pro-Life Group Releases New List of Planned Parenthood Abortion Donors

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) – A pro-life organization that monitors corporations that donate money to Planned Parenthood has released a new list of companies that give money to the nation’s largest abortion business. New corporations on the boycott list include jeweler Tiffany & Company and Blackjack Pizza restaurants. Life Decisions International has been monitoring companies for over 15 years and says that at least 137 corporations have stopped funding Planned Parenthood as a result of the pro-life boycotts. That’s cost Planned Parenthood an estimated $35 million.

“This should be a testament to those who believe it is impossible to change corporate philanthropic behavior,” LDI president Douglas Scott said.

Companies appearing on the boycott list for the first time also include AlphaGraphics, television broadcasting firm Arizona Lotus, BolchalkFReY Marketing, Kara-Line (Wild Carrots apparel), hotel and resort operator Lowe Enterprises, and Scolari’s Food & Drug.

Numerous corporations have appeared on the LDI boycott list for years and the group encourages pro-life people to continue to boycott their products and contact their corporate headquarters to let them know why.

Neiman Marcus, software maker Adobe, Wachovia, Golub (which operates Price Chopper supermarkets), Nike, Time Warner, Unilever, Bank of America, the Dallas Cowboys, CIGNA, Walt Disney, Johnson & Johnson, Wells Fargo, Whole Foods Market, and Nationwide insurance are some of the large companies that have supported the abortion business.

The new boycott list also includes the names of charitable groups that have developed relationships with Planned Parenthood and LDI asks pro-life people to disassociate themselves with them.

These groups include the American Cancer Society, Camp Fire girls, The Dr. Phil Foundation, Girls Inc., Girl Scouts, Human Rights Watch, Kiwanis Clubs, the March of Dimes, Rotary Clubs, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the YWCA.

“We ask all people who care about life to visit this page to learn which businesses in their area are supporting Planned Parenthood,” Scott said. “We urge picketing, letter-writing, and personal visits to these establishments. It is important for pro-family people to let these entrepreneurs know how they feel.”

“The Pro-Life Movement will succeed only to the extent that pro-life people are willing to be inconvenienced,” Scott said. “The very lives of children are worth that much effort and a whole lot more.”

If they give a penny to PP, then no, absolutely not - do not give them that penny.

this is what the organization posted on their web page.

" About the Organizations
Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. nationally and locally supports Planned Parenthood.

This is not true. People assume that but the only connection is when a troop is looking for a resource for something in one of the badge programs and Planned Parenthood may be the only one listed. However, the troop must obtain the consent of the parents before ever presenting something of this nature to the girls."

And further down:

The sale of Girl Scout cookies goes to support abortions and/or Planned Parenthood.

This is not true. The sale of Girl Scout cookies supports the councils and troops that sell them.

It looks to me like any and all resources on the subject are at least 2years old, if not even more outdated. Also, most point out that if Girl Scouts has a relationship, it is in a local sense and not on a national level. So…what does that mean for the little girl asking me to buy her cookies? How can I know if her specific troop is donating money? Should I condemn all Girl Scout troops because the main parent organization, which takes no definite stance on the subject. allows it’s troops to make their own decisions?

Everything you find is two years old because that’s when the media hoopla started. It saw a resurgence last summer, too.

I don’t think you should condemn all Girl Scouts. I certainly wouldn’t ask the cookie seller at the door about her troop’s relationship with Planned Parenthood. But if you could find out from the Troop leader if that was the case, that would probably be good to know. The cookie sales fund the troop who sells them to you. That’s all.

The Scouts (both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts) have had a long-standing relationship with the Church in the U.S. (There is also a National Catholic Committe on Scouting for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.) They are one of the few high profile and respected secular organizations that actually has a good working relationship with and respect for the Catholic Church. That is not a small thing. Many Catholic parishes and groups even sponsor Troops for their local area. My parish does.

I’m not that familiar with the details of this whole thing, but I am quite skeptical that the Girl Scouts would give money to Planned Parenthood. PP is a multi-billion dollar corporation. If anything, PP should be giving money to the Girl Scouts.

From what I can gather, it seems like maybe some local chapters utilize their local Planned Parenthood for earning patches somehow. I definitely wouldn’t want my local chapter doing that, but I wouldn’t write off the whole organization for the actions of a few.

Girl Scouts has been involved with Planned Parenthood since the early to mid-70s. My Catholic elementary school disbanded its girl scout troops in the mid 70s because of their affiliation with Planned Parenthood. They had this new badge called “I am a Woman” which taught the young girls about their “rights” to have an abortion. They have since eliminated that badge (too much controversy), but to my knowledge, nothing has changed with respect to monetary support. The leaders of Girl Scouts USA are radical feminists and I believe I read somewhere on line (sorry, can’t remember where or when, but you’d probably find it if you Google it) that this leader is actually a former employee of Planned Parenthood.

I’ve done some research on line in the past year, or so because I was trying (unsuccessfully) to eliminate Girl Scouts from my daughter’s school, in favor of a Catholic girls club called “Challenge”. I found that you are right - the articles are all 2 years old (or older). I don’t think that means they stopped supporting Planned Parenthood, but I think it means they’ve gotten better at keeping it low key and have made it very difficult to find the statistics. This is not something they advertise openly, for obvious reasons.

I believe one of their defenses against this claim is that since the troops operate independently, that some troops may support the abortion industry, while others may not (depending on your region). This poo doesn’t flush with me, however, because you can’t tell me that some of that cookie money isn’t getting filtered through to Girl Scouts USA and, therefore, getting into Planned Parenthood’s grubby little filthy hands.

Personally, I refuse to buy Girl Scout cookies. Double Stuff Oreos are much better anyway! 😃

Girl Scout Promise and Law**
The Girl Scout Promise and Law are shared by every member of Girl Scouting. The Girl Scout Promise is the way Girl Scouts agree to act every day toward one another and other people, and the Law outlines a way to act towards one another and the world.

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God* and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.
  • The word “God” can be interpreted in a number of ways, depending on one’s spiritual beliefs. When reciting the Girl Scout Promise, it is okay to replace the word “God” with whatever word your spiritual beliefs dictate

I think GS cookie sales should be boycotted for an entirely different reason. The GS local troop only gets about 10% of the cookie profits. The national council gets 50% and the cookie maker gets 40%.

RIP OFF. Overpriced cookies sold through the labor of little girls to profit the national counil and the cookie maker. The GS troop should just bake their own darn cookies and sell them locally and keep all the money-- which is how it all started anyway.

Nope, they are really going towards Planned Parenthood and like organizations.

For example, in their new “Journey’s” Program, the “Media” book for girls in the 6-8 grades gives a two page glowing report on Carol Jenkins as a model of women in media (pgs 70&71). They list as an example of this, her co founding of the “Womens Media Center” with Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda. They provide a link to the Women’s Media Center

www.womensmediacenter.org

Here is their ‘partners’ list

womensmediacenter.org/index.php/about-wmc/partners.html

The “Bliss” book for girls in the 11-12th grades have the same information.

In addition, the resource book for girls in the 4th-6th grades gives a glowing report on the play “Simply Maria, the American Dream” which equates marriage to being owned like a pet and promotes ‘touching oneself’

If you’re not getting an abortion, directly paying for one, driving someone to a clinic, advising someone to get one, or buying Girl Scout Cookies for the sake of supporting planned parenthood, then I am pretty sure it is morally licit to buy those cookies.

With that said, I personally think Girl Scout Cookies are overrated. Save your money for other delicious snacks.

And don’t forget the umbrella org for the Girl Scouts, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. (WAGGGS). Every Girl Scout wears the WAGGGS pin on her sash.

Wagggs sent a pro-abortion delation to the UN’s Commitee on the Status of Women. They did so wearing T-shirt denegrating the Right to Life.

And Wagggs brags about it on their website.

wagggsworld.org/en/CSW54/Day6

GSUSA provides over half of Wagggs total funding, and GSUSA get’s it’s money from both the $12 annual fee and from it’s cut from the cookie sales.

This. What someone does with legitimately gained profits (which is what this is) is held accountable to him alone. Otherwise, you’d have to ask every person from which you bought anything whether they used the profits of the sale to commit sin.

Oh see now that makes me sad, we have a girl at our parish who sells them after mass and I bought a box because I used to be a Brownie Scout. I also noticed on that list that Whole Foods was on there. My husband and I only shop there for the organic stuff and cruelty free products. (there aren’t many choices here in Tulsa for a hippie like me to shop lol)

I couldn’t help but notice the irony of Whole Foods selling “cruelty free” products while at the same time supporting Planned Parenthood.

I need proof of that badge

My daughter was in Brownies and Girl Scouts both sponsored at the Catholic School she attended and where I worked. I guess you all who demonize the Girl Scouts can take up with the Diocese of Charleston. I doubt they will listen to some of your alls radical rants.

I was also a Brownie and a Girl Scout in 1966 and 1968. I sold Girl Scout Cookies to my aunts…all Catholic…to my neighbors…also Catholic.

I buy Girl Scout cookies every year. I am well aware of how much money goes to where and how little goes to the troop itself. With that said, I doubt buying a box of cookies from a 10 yr old is going to condemn me to hellfire and brimstone.

I think some of you need to boycott the world and be done with it. I believe there are many unoccupied caves all over the world. Your life will be as simplistic and fish bowl as you like. Using old unproved data to scare folks or guilt folks as if God is going to condemn you for buying a box of Girl Scout cookies.

Has the Church said anything about buying Girl Scout cookies. No, I didn’t think so. Paranoia, once again run amok taken to the 9th degree.

I think I’ll get in my Ford, stop for a latte at Starbucks, swing by Wally world, pick up a box of Girl Scout cookies from the girls selling them outside Wally world and pick up a pink ribbon ink pen and pink ribbon day pocket day planner. After that I’ll call my gay real estate agent and see if he can get me an appraisal on my house and lest I forget attend a bbq the next day where I was invited by my gay neighbor.

Do you see how crazy this can get? Ridiculas, isn’t it?🤷
