Can I work on my house on Sundays?

To address some people’s concerns. Yes, my wife and I still go to mass. We have no children, and my wife does help with the house when I work on Sunday. We both enjoy the work, but we’re just ready for the house to be done! Which is why we’re even considering working on sundays… we usually have a very laid back day.
Then I think you are fine.

An example of when working on Sundays isn’t a good, is if you were using it as a way to avoid your family.

For example, my dad has/had a tendency in the summer to do yard work on Sunday so he can be by himself.

However, now that he’s retired, if continues to do such such work on Sunday, it would not be a good thing, as he now has all week to do yard work.

I think motivation is a big part. Some people literally do work on Sunday (consciously or subconsciously) so they can claim to be too busy for Church and/or family.

@mt1926 Thank you for checking this stuff on the catechism for us all. It gives me more assurance. 👍

You forgot to add that these quotations were from the catechism! But, as always, the catechsim simply reflects common sense.
Yeah sorry about that, character limit. Ran out of space, had to cut out some of the words from the paragraphs as well.
As another poster pointed out, we’re not Puritans. And we shouldn’t take every verse of the Bible literally. Go to Mass–Sat. night if you need to–and do whatever you need to on Sunday. If you can devote time to your family, good for you. But not everyone can.
Totally agree. God judges the heart, not us. He knows why you do what you do on Sundays, no one here can judge the OP.

God Bless

No, No, No. Mass isn’t cancelled by any means. Those who participate in the building of the house are excused from attending on those days. HFH wants the volunteers to be on site at 7am. The first Mass of the day at our parish is at 8:30am. If you’re on site working on someone’s house at that time, you can’t be at Mass in the parish at the same time.
