Can Jews be saved according to the Catholic Church? I find the view of the Catholic Church on Muslims to be very difficult to understand. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what the Catholic Church believe about unbelieving Jews.

The church has several papal documents for your review. They can’t say all Jews are saved, just as they can’t say all who say they are saved are saved. Just as they damn no man. Not even Judas.

Are you saying the Catholic Church doesn’t think Judas is damned? Are you saying unbelieving Jews have a possiblity to be saved apart from faith in Christ? Can you please post the CC reference instead of the papal document.

**Matthew 26:24

The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”**

I will have to hand type it for you!

And get it out of the car!!

I left it there after my afternnon lesson with Father!😊

Husband went to 5:00 mass without us distracting him, and my class was earlier today. Its cold outside and he is not home now, and little one is still up.

Trust me, the official catholics will back me up. I read this weeks and weeks ago. Old news for me anyway (being a few weeks old or so) LOL!🙂

edit to add:

Judas COULD have repented, we just don’t know. Best not to say in case he did.

Can Jews be saved according to the Catholic Church? .
I guess , ans is yes. Jews are the big brothers , chosen people. So , it’s not a must for them to believe in Jesus (p). As the chosen people , heaven is reserved for them.

Now you have the Mulsim answer. Underdog, I am tempted to leave my child unnatended to get the CCC out of my car and give you the catholic answer from the CCC since you will not accept papal documents.😊

God can save anybody He pleases in any way He pleases.

Are you trying to box God into a corner by saying that He can only save those who are baptised Christians, and that there is no way that God–God Almighty-can save anybody unless they are baptized Christians?

Knowing that God saved many people who had never heard of Christ, because they were born before His coming? Christ’s coming saved them though it happened after their deaths. Are you saying that Christ’s coming before the lives of people from the 1st century to now, and beyond, can’t save people UNLESS they are baptized Christians?

And while Scripture is useful, cherry picking Scripture is not. Taking verses out of context to ‘prove a point’ is not a legitimate refutation. It’s a circular argument.

Now I’m certainly all for Christians, and I think it is vital to evangelize. . .but I’m not going to take God’s place and determine who is going to be saved, and ‘damn’ groups of people when I don’t know their heart and don’t know what grace God may give them to accept Him at their deaths. That’s for GOD to say. There are plenty of baptized Christians who aren’t saved despite being baptized if one reads Scripture and sees not only St. Paul warning us that we can ‘lose’ salvation’, but also see that evildoers will not enter heaven. . .even if they are baptized, else why would St. Paul warn us? If all it took to earn heaven was baptism, St. Paul would not have to tell us the things that would keep us from heaven, because baptism would be a ‘get into heaven free card’ for Christians.

Here is the relevant information from the CCC:

**belongs to the Catholic Church? **

836 "All men are called to this catholic unity of the People of God. . . . And to it, in different ways, belong or are ordered: the Catholic faithful, others who believe in Christ, and finally all mankind, called by God’s grace to salvation."320
837 "Fully incorporated into the society of the Church are those who, possessing the Spirit of Christ, accept all the means of salvation given to the Church together with her entire organization, and who - by the bonds constituted by the profession of faith, the sacraments, ecclesiastical government, and communion - are joined in the visible structure of the Church of Christ, who rules her through the Supreme Pontiff and the bishops. Even though incorporated into the Church, one who does not however persevere in charity is not saved. He remains indeed in the bosom of the Church, but ‘in body’ not ‘in heart.’"321
838 "The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter."322 Those "who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church."323 With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound "that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord’s Eucharist."324
**The Church and non-Christians **
839 "Those who have not yet received the Gospel are related to the People of God in various ways."325
The relationship of the Church with the Jewish People. When she delves into her own mystery, the Church, the People of God in the New Covenant, discovers her link with the Jewish People,326 "the first to hear the Word of God."327 The Jewish faith, unlike other non-Christian religions, is already a response to God’s revelation in the Old Covenant. To the Jews “belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ”,328 "for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable."329
840 And when one considers the future, God’s People of the Old Covenant and the new People of God tend towards similar goals: expectation of the coming (or the return) of the Messiah. But one awaits the return of the Messiah who died and rose from the dead and is recognized as Lord and Son of God; the other awaits the coming of a Messiah, whose features remain hidden till the end of time; and the latter waiting is accompanied by the drama of not knowing or of misunderstanding Christ Jesus.

841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day."330
842 The Church’s bond with non-Christian religions is in the first place the common origin and end of the human race:
All nations form but one community. This is so because all stem from the one stock which God created to people the entire earth, and also because all share a common destiny, namely God. His providence, evident goodness, and saving designs extend to all against the day when the elect are gathered together in the holy city. . .331

843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as "a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life."332
844 In their religious behavior, however, men also display the limits and errors that disfigure the image of God in them:
Very often, deceived by the Evil One, men have become vain in their reasonings, and have exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and served the creature rather than the Creator. Or else, living and dying in this world without God, they are exposed to ultimate despair.333

845 To reunite all his children, scattered and led astray by sin, the Father willed to call the whole of humanity together into his Son’s Church. The Church is the place where humanity must rediscover its unity and salvation. The Church is “the world reconciled.” She is that bark which “in the full sail of the Lord’s cross, by the breath of the Holy Spirit, navigates safely in this world.” According to another image dear to the Church Fathers, she is prefigured by Noah’s ark, which alone saves from the flood.334

And this (had to cut in two, post too long):

**“Outside the Church there is no salvation” **
846 How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers?335 Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body:
Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.336

847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:
Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.337
848 "Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men."338

Thank you Tantum Ergo! I was already in my coat and had her all set up with markers on a large floorboard coloring page with beads to glue, now I don’t have to go outside!🙂

Ummm, did you miss it? Under 839? I did post it. . .
He may not realize the numbers you cited are the numbers in the CCC. I wonder why he wants CCC citations when he is not familliar with the layout of the CCC.🤷

I know. . .and I put at the top of the post that “here is the relevent information from the CCC”, too!!!

Here’s the CC on-line. Please post the relevant reference in regards to the jew and salvation.

Ralph make a reference about the Jews being in a better category than Muslims. In the New Testament, I only see that there are two categories consisting of those who are in Christ and those who are Adam.
The Muslims are not promised in the bible our out of it, to be in any special standing with God. Only in their holy book.
The faithful jews, are mentioned in the bible.

Sorry, I’m spending time with the family and sneaking on to this site too.

I’m not sure I can reconcile the CC with Romans chapters 9, 10, and 11 in the Bible about the Jews. Try to read those chapters and let me know what you think about my observation.

You have to take the whole Bible into consideration and not just parts of it.

God Bless.

We do need to consider all of Scripture to make a conclusion on a topic. So what part of Romans chapter 9, 10, and 11 is taken out of context from the rest of the Bible? How about Romans chapter 2 and the true jew? You see, the remnant chosen by grace from the nation of Israel believed that Jesus was the Christ. What am I missing in regards to the ethnic Jews? Jesus told the unbelieving Jews that Satan was their Father. The Apostle Paul tells us the unbelieving jew is not saved. For those who are united to Christ, there is no Jew or Gentile distinction in Christ. Please help me understand how Jews can be saved apart from personal faith in Christ? Who will pay for their sins? Will God be unjust if He let’s the sins of the unbelieving Jew unpunished? You might want to consider the book of Hebrews too in regards to the OP.

Rom 2

17 But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God 18 and know his will and approve what is excellent, because you are instructed from the law; 19 and if you are sure that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— 21 you then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal? 22 You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law. 24 For, as it is written, “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”

25 For circumcision indeed is of value if you obey the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision. 26 So, if a man who is uncircumcised keeps the precepts of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded [2] as circumcision? 27 Then he who is physically uncircumcised but keeps the law will condemn you who have the written code [3] and circumcision but break the law. 28 For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. 29 But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.

Please help me understand what you are saying. Could you direct me to Bible references to help me follow the Catholic position on unbelieving Jews. Would you say the faithful Jews became Christians?
