justasking4. Go to acts 15. Read it. then read it again and again. Then you will get your answer. The reason we know about the Blessed Mother we believe in Chapter 15 of acts.

Her is my question justasking4 Who is in charge at the Council of Jeruealem? The bible or the Apostles and elders?

Then you can maybe try to understand why we believe in the council still today. Just because we don’t take every word in the bible out of context does not mean we don’t believe in the bible or listen to it.

You see justasking4 we obey what we are taught. We believe the words of the bible let me repeat them for you. Peter said God made his choice among you that through my mouth the gentiles will hear the word of the gospel and believe. Not through a book, through my Mouth. THe mouth of Peter that still exists today through the Pope. Now again what is written, I do not see that. I see through my mouth. That is how we have oral teachings through the mouth of the apostles and Peter, there was no book.

But just for the heck of it could you answer my question?

The Holy Spirit Who worked through the apostles and elders with a basis in the Scriptures.

There has always been a “book” i.e. the Scriptures in the Christian church. Look again at Acts 15 as a case in point.

Do you believe everything a council has said throughout history has been of Christ?
But just for the heck of it could you answer my question?
See above:thumbsup:

Do you use the phrase “of Christ” to mean inspired, or merely inerrant? If you mean inspired, then no, Catholics believe God’s word (God’s general revelation to humanity) was fully transmitted at the death of the last Apostle – anything subsequent, even Church council teachings and doctrinal definitions, is not part of God’s general revelation.

If you mean inerrant, then every doctrinal teaching at every Ecumenical Council is infallible (man’s word protected from error by the Holy Spirit). The infallibility applies only to the doctrinal part of each statement, not to administrative or procedural parts (such as anathemas).

Keeping in mind that not one word of the New Testament had yet been written down, upon what Scriptural basis did they reject the Jewish ceremonial law? (Where in the Old Testament would they have found any grounds whatsoever to do so?)

I am not sure of your answer I believe you said Apostles and Elders? Is this correct?

“Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come; before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen”

I have said this all of my life and will till the day God calls me home. I pray that you are not making fun of it justasking4. I would hate to see anyone making fun of anyone no matter what Religion they are for going to the Mother of Christ for Prayers. I have many sins in my life but would not want to face God with that one.

They built their case on the OT with a fuller revelation of the HS that was evidently given to various apostles.

What they came up with was the opposite of what is plainly written in the Old Testament. They cannot have been going by Scripture Alone, therefore.

If Mary is as you claim here i.e. free from all sin, then how do you explain as some have stated that the woman of Revelations 12:1-5 is Mary because she is the one who gave birth to a male child (verse 5) and this birth was also in “great pain” in labor. Now part of the effects of sin is pain in childbirth as we see Genesis 3:16.

Here is the problem with claiming Mary is sinless. If Mary is the woman of Revelation 12 and she had pain in childbirth in the birth of Jesus (verse 2) then this would mean she is a sinner. Part in child birth is the result of being fallen.

Do you believe that Mary is the woman of Revelation 12?
To the woman he said: "I will intensify the pangs of your childbearing; in pain shall you bring forth children. Yet your urge shall be for your husband, and he shall be your master. – Gen 3:16

It says the pains will increase, not there wouldn’t be any. This is why Mary is Revelation 12.

Pain has nothing to do with individual sin. Jesus had pain, both emotional and physical, and yet we know Jesus did not sin. This is why Mary is Revelation 12.

At the very least, the pain reffered to as to bringing Jesus, Saviour of the World into the world, doesn’t specify physical pain. Could have been, don’t know.

So basically you are saying you have no idea? Wouldn’t it had beene asier to just say, I don’t know?

Come on, Just asking4 Don’t be modest:hug3: You take EVERY word in the bible out of context. I am not to shy to admit that for you guys! Come on Catholics, give them a hand! :clapping: > Hey guys! it involves all 10 fingers! :tsktsk:

There has always been a “book” i.e. the Scriptures in the Christian church. Look again at Acts 15 as a case in point.

So this other book was the bible also? Was it replaced by the new bible? wher is it mentioned in the NT? could it be a lost book? Was it a gospel of James.

Do you believe everything a council has said throughout history has been of Christ?

Did you mean in Christ, for Christ, by Christ, to Christ, with Christ
about Christ, or did you really mean of Chriist? Could you restate that question?

Not sure what you mean. Can you clarify?
The Holy Spirit came to the Church and gave it information that was not available in the Bible at that time.

Is He incapable of doing so now? If so, when did He lose this ability, and how do you know?

jmcrae;4349913]The Holy Spirit came to the Church and gave it information that was not available in the Bible at that time.
Much of what Jesus taught was of this nature. He taught on hell and there is not much in Scripture on it. He was the final and fullest revelation of the Father.

The difference is that the Lord Jesus had perfect knowledge and was the God-man. He was incapable of erring. Fallen men are not and the Scriptures warn of false teachers coming into the church to decieve. This is why we must always test all teachings with the written Word of God.

Jesus had already been gone for many, many years when the Apostles met at Jerusalem in Acts 15. (St. Paul had already returned from his 7 year sojourn into the desert.)They certainly weren’t relying on Jesus coming in person to tell them what to say or do. If there was ever a time to rely on Bible alone, that would have been it - but they didn’t!
