Well if there is nothing left in this world. And Muslim is in danger of dieing hungery. Than its allowed. Hopefully that won’t going to happened because its forbidden in islam. Sorry One and Only Above if i said the big word. I pray that will not happened to any muslim. Ameen Sum Ameen
If its forbidden, then why is it allowed if it comes to desperate measures? If something is forbidden, then thats what it is… forbidden, why not allow something if it is still allowed in desperate times?
For the record, bacon is lovely, you dont know what your missing. 😉

Hey i donot want to talk more about this. The reason while dieing hungery to eat is that. Life is precious and given by One and Only Above. And we donot want to be suicidal. And suicidal person is going straight to hell with one way ticket. I heard that from muslim and christian people and I belives in it too.

Well, since you are talking about pork which is forbidden in Judaism & Islam, I personally once I convert completely to Christianity, I will not eat pork, not because of a religious reason, but because of a scientific one, look at these Youtube videos about untreated pork:
(Youtube1) (Youtube2).

I am not bothered that Muslims don’t eat pork.

Actually, despite being a dog lover, I can accept that someone might not be fond of dogs.

I did read that Muslim cab drivers in one US city would not take service dogs into their cabs. From what I have gathered on this thread, they are not obeying their own religion which allows working dogs. Is that right?

At one point my hubby wanted to attempt to follow the Kosher laws. I supported him in his desire to learn more about his mother’s faith. He was advised by a rabbi to start slowly in keeping the kosher laws so all he did was give up pork. I was surprised at the negative reaction from some of our friends.😦 I can’t imagine how they would have reacted if we had actually followed the Kosher laws about keeping milk and meat separate(no cheese hamburgers for Orthodox Jews)

That experience has led me to be more accepting of other religious practices.

In the end, it doesn’t bother me that Muslims can’t keep dogs or eat bacon. Hey that means more puppies for me!😛 But I was curious about the ‘whys’ behind not keeping dogs as pets. THank you all for answering.

Mohammed allowed working dogs because the Bedouin was objecting to his extermination. Dogs were their livelihood. The Bedu managed to save alot of dogs by hiding them in caves or mountains during Mohammed’s dog killing spree. Mohammed eventually stop the killing and allowed working dogs, but that exception was only for the Bedu. I think he was afraid of an all out riot or revolt from them. Btw, Arabs don’t think too highly of the Bedu. If you travel through the Middle East from Israel to the Arabian peninsula, you’ll still find Bedu with working dogs. Bedu have high regard with their dogs. They even allow dogs to sleep with them in the same tent.

I think the question i asked was a just one…
Why forbid something when its needed in a crisis??

Sam, i can understand your concern, but this type of treatment doesnt happen in every country.

So, dogs are evil but may be kept in case of need? I am confused. I am cool with them being unclean. After all, it was said in Pulp Fiction that any animal that doesn’t disregard its own fecees as food is unclean 😉 , but why are angels scared of them? Why would angels be scared of anything?

Exactly! According to Muhammad, angels will not enter a room if there’s a picture there either.

**The school administrators are a bunch of idiots here. This case clearly shows the man and his service dog are threatened. There is no breakdown in communications, it’s about a group of Muslim students trying to impose their religious belief on the kaffirs. **

A St. Cloud State University student in a teacher-training program at Technical High School left the school in late April because he says he feared for the safety of his service dog.

The school district calls it a misunderstanding, and officials there say they hoped Tyler Hurd, a 23-year-old junior from Mahtomedi who aspires to teach special education, would continue his training in the district.
Hurd said a student threatened to kill his service dog named Emmitt. The black lab is trained to protect Hurd when he has seizures.
The seizures, which can occur weekly, are from a childhood injury.
The dog has a pouch on his side that assists those who stop to help Hurd.
Hurd said he was unable to finish his 50 hours of field training at Tech. The university waived the remaining 10 hours, he said. He plans to do his student teaching outside a high school setting.
“We came up with a solution because I felt threatened by it," Hurd said.
The school district and university are working to make sure a similar situation doesn’t happen.
Kate Steffens, dean of the college of education at St. Cloud State, and Tech assistant principal Lori Lockhart met Thursday.
The threat came from a Somali student who is Muslim, according to Hurd, St. Cloud State and school district officials.
The Muslim faith, which is the dominant faith of Somali immigrants, forbids the touching of dogs.
Hurd trained at Talahi Community School and Tech. He said his experience at Talahi was good. The Somali students there warmed to the dog and eventually petted him using paper to keep their hands off his fur, Hurd said.
Things didn’t go as well at Tech, Hurd said. Students there taunted his dog, and he finally felt he had to leave after he was told a student made a threat. Hurd met with Lockhart but said he did not feel comfortable continuing.
Julia Espe, director of curriculum, instruction and assessment for St. Cloud school district, said the school needed to do a better job communicating.
“I think it was a misunderstanding where we didn’t really prepare either side for possible implications," Espe said.
Espe said the school’s investigation determined the student did not make a direct threat.
“We certainly welcome (Hurd) in our district, and we hope we can get this all resolved so he feels welcome and his dog is welcome," Espe said.
St. Cloud State places about 1,000 students in 240 schools to help prepare them for careers in education.
In St. Cloud school district, 330 are in the field training program Hurd was in and 94 are in student teaching.
Steffens said it is important to respect different cultures and the rights of disabled students.
“I think this is part of the growth process when we become more diverse," Steffens said.
Steffens called Hurd a good student and committed young man.
Gary Loch, who is the diversity coordinator for the district, said the situation was an unfortunate case of miscommunication.
“I’m not quite sure where the breakdown comes into play here," Loch said.

The Nordics in Greenland had a food taboo against shellfish. The Hindus have their cow fetish. Mormons abstain from alcohol and coffee. Jews and Muslims don’t eat pork. No big deal.

Of course this is all theoretical. I’m a Mormon with a coffee maker. Many Muslims do enjoy pork. My mother-in-law doesn’t keep a kosher house, and neither did her mother.

When a woman came to Muhammad (saw) to confess her sins, he refused to hear her confession, but told her to go to the well and draw water for a thirsty dog. After the lady came back with the dog in tow, he told her that G-d would forgive her sins, whatever they might be, because compassion for people and non-human animals was the best deed in the eyes of G-d. On another occasion, the people of his town asked him to lead a prayer service. He woke up late and found that his pet cat was asleep on his robes. Rather than bother the cat, he cut his garment so that the cat could keep her bed and stay sleeping, then without time to buy new clothes, had to hurry out and lead the service with a hole in his coat.

I like these stories for the same reasons I like stories of St. Francis. Compassion for people and animals reveals a good character in a person. Dietary taboos don’t mean that the believers necessarily dislike the animal per se…only that it’s customary to abstain from consuming them. The angels being frightened of pigs and/or dogs would probably be more of a literary allusion, I’d think.

But you don’t believe that a cup of coffee will keep an angel out of your home. I should add, I don’t know if all or even most Muslims believe that a dog could keep an angel at bay. Maybe it is a superstition not believed by most Muslims.

I read this story also. I am uncertain how it goes with other, more negative stories on Muhammed’s attitude about dogs. 🤷 This is of course why I am glad that we have Muslims on this thread. I can ask a question and get an answer from a follower of Islam.🙂

This is the story that got me started looking into Muslim attitude toward dogs. I am confused. I thought that working dogs were okay according to the Muslim faith.

I think the question i asked was a just one…
Why forbid something when its needed in a crisis??
As far` as my knowledge goes Muslims are allowed to eat it when it is needed. Like starvation; no other options of food, etc. You ARE NOT allowed to starve yourself because it is the** only **option .
Me and DH came from Pakistan and that is where my knowledge comes from. Maybe its cultural??

I loooooooooooooooooooooooooove dogs!!! They are sooooooo sweet and make great pets, I think.

But generally Muslims aren’t supposed to keep them as pets, but only keep them for a reason, like for hunting, or for security, or like a blind person to lead them around.
So you would give up your natural love for dogs because of Mohammeds stipulations?
There is a hadith which says angels won’t enter the home of someone who has a dog, and other things which make it generally undesirable from a religious perspective to keep a dog inside the house.
Would you then not have a dog in your house because of that?
But other than dogs, Muslims are allowed to own pets like cats, and a lot of Muslims own cats.
Doesn’t that just seem whimsical to you? If Mohammed had personally liked dogs it might be otherwise. Why do you think it more a desire of God than a desire of one man nearly 1500 years ago?

If its forbidden, then why is it allowed if it comes to desperate measures? If something is forbidden, then thats what it is… forbidden, why not allow something if it is still allowed in desperate times?
Because in Islam there is a kind of priority. If something will SAVE YOUR LIFE it does more good than the harm. If a person is going to starve, except that he can eat some pork, or even drink alcohol, or eat some dead meat or something else which is forbidden, and that is all available to him, he MUST eat it, because if he doesn’t, he will starve and die.

And dying is worse than eating pork. Wouldn’t you agree?

Islamic law is to preserve five things, and one of them is life. Meaning the preservation of life is more important than a prohibition of a kind of food.

This is correct, and it’s not cultural, it’s actually part of Shari’ah.

Preserving life is more important, and that is a principle in Islamic law–that not all laws are binding at all times. The fact that exceptions are allowed, like this one, is what makes Islam easy and beautiful (imo.)

For the picture part, Muhammad claims that on the resurrection day, the owners of those pictures will be told to give life for what they have created.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 62, Number 110:
Narrated Aisha:
(the wife of the Prophet) I bought a cushion having on it pictures (of animals). When Allah’s Apostle saw it, he stood at the door and did not enter. I noticed the sign of disapproval on his face and said, "O Allah’s Apostle! I repent to Allah and His Apostle. What sin have I committed?’ Allah’s Apostle said. “What is this cushion?” I said, “I have bought it for you so that you may sit on it and recline on it.” Allah’s Apostle said, "The makers of these pictures will be punished on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them, ‘Give life to what you have created (i.e., these pictures).’ " The Prophet added, "The Angels of (Mercy) do not enter a house in which there are pictures (of animals)
.”"

(A)

And as for the dog part, I think that has something to do with “The Seven Sleepers of Ephesus”, since the legend tells that they were Christians, and since some stories told that they had a dog protecting them, so I would assume that the dog through God’s order was preventing demons from entering that cave.

I am still confised why angels are scared of dogs. They weren’t in the Bible. Why would angels be scared of anything?
