If one is unrepentant of a venial sin, can they go to hell?
Just to clarify, you will still go to Purgatory even if you have been absolved of venial or mortal sins. Your time in Purgatory is only reduced or removed if you receive an indulgence. Think of it like putting pins into a cork board. Suppose the pins represent sins. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, those “pins” are removed from the board. However, the holes that they created still exist. The purification in Purgatory fixes those “holes” and makes you worthy to enter Heaven.A person who dies with un-repented venial sin will go to Purgatory, not Hell.
A person may need further purification via a state called purgatory…Just to clarify, you will still go to Purgatory even if you have been absolved of venial or mortal sins. Your time in Purgatory is only reduced or removed if you receive an indulgence
Such would not the the Teaching of the Church…but it can lead towards committing a mortal sin (see below)I vaguely recall reading something about the possibility of going to hell dependent on committing a very large number of venial sins. But that information may have been wrong, or I may have remembered it incorrectly. Did anyone else hear about this?
It would not…but it repeated deliberate unrepented venial sins…“can” lead towards such…via a mortal sinI would think that if a person thought they could commit even venial sin without obtaining forgiveness i.e. shunning God’s pardon for their sin, that would separate them from God.
Yeah, that’s what I meant. It would not…but it repeated deliberate unrepented venial sins…“can” lead towards such…via a mortal sin
see CCC above
What if one acknowledges the need for forgiveness but does not feel they have done their part for forgiveness - being repentant?Yeah, that’s what I meant.
Someone who commits a venial sin and says, “I know this is a sin, I know it’s not a serious sin, but I don’t need forgiveness and refuse to ask for it” is certainly dancing with the devil.
One repents …asks forgivness…does penance …seeks to amend their lives…to follow Christ …goes perhaps to confession etc…What if one acknowledges the need for forgiveness but does not feel they have done their part for forgiveness - being repentant?
Then they should repent. The “default” position of any Christian should be to seek forgiveness when in doubt. What if one acknowledges the need for forgiveness but does not feel they have done their part for forgiveness - being repentant?
But what if one keeps doing the sin after confession, and it is preventable? Such as minor lying? One repents …asks forgivness…does penance …seeks to amend their lives…to follow Christ …goes perhaps to confession etc…
Of course they may too have a difficulty “feeling” the reality that is there…no worries feeling is not the end all and be all…they do not always follow reality…
Certainly if it is venial: that does not = hell. But what if one keeps doing the sin after confession, and it is preventable? Such as minor lying?
I don’t get how anyone who dies with a venial sin will go to Heaven for sure. Because, lots of people in this world (and lots of those who kill, etc.) probably don’t know what they do is a MORTAL sin, so that would mean that they go to Heaven? I just think even if someone only has a venial sin, doesn’t automatically mean they would go to Heaven.A person who dies with un-repented venial sin will go to Purgatory, not Hell.
