As you can see, I am prejudiced–I LIKE Indians! I find the whole thing fascinating. There is also a famous actor, Bobby Deol, who has a brother Sunny, also an actor. Indians are usually given a nickname which has nothing to do with their actual names. A lot of them don’t seem to mind taking “English” names (“Dimples”–another famous actress), or Anglicized versions of their Hindu names–“Sweetie” for example.He was probably better off taking the name of one of the Brady sons.
I am probably hyper-aware, but I find it fascinating that we often have an Indian correspondent/interviewer interviewing another Indian. I’m sure most people aren’t even aware of it.
Just on PBS we have Hari Srinivasan, Amna Nawaz, and Fred de Sam Lazaro (Portuguese name–a lot of Indians have Portuguese names because of Goa).
Also a couple years ago a new ethnic group became the richest (on average) in the US: Indians.
