Thank you. That was my point - they were understood Biblically from early on. I can help here - science affirmed them in the last 150 years.
Ludicrous. None of the factors I cited had anything at all to do with the Bible. Indeed, the fact that the concepts were known well over 2000 years ago shows that their discovery predated the Bible.

And just when was the Bible written?

And just when was the Bible written?
Well the Bible as everyone knows it was established in the 1st century AD. The individual works that constitute the Bible were written at various times. But this is completely irrelevant because the concepts of time, space, and matter were understood by individuals who hadn’t read the Bible or heeded it. To suggest that every mathematician and physicist had a notion of each of these concepts because of biblical works is absurd.

And keep in mind, humans likely had an understanding of each of these concepts WAY more than 2000, or perhaps even 3000 years ago, but I’m not going out of the way to research it for you.

Colophons in Genesis

The colophons in Genesis are a series of statements which apparently indicate the end of each of the original documents which make up the book of Genesis. In Genesis there are ten places containing a phrase similar to “these are the generations of” (AV) or “This is the account of” (NIV), usually with the name of a person following. These phrases are like colophons, or lines put at the end of ancient documents giving some information about the documents. They were generally placed at the end like a modern letter with a signature at the end, although they are more like the page in a modern book giving the title and author.

THE FIRST BOOK OF MOSES AND THE ‘TOLEDOTH’ OF GENESIS

This article is all about the true structure of the Book of Genesis; a structure that is so simple and straightforward - as the reader is going to discover - that even a child would have no trouble understanding it in its basic form. The chief credit for having laid bare this structure in all its profound simplicity belongs to the British scholar, Percy John Wiseman 1], upon whose thesis the following article will be based.

Just some food for thought.

In the beginning (time)
God created heaven (space)
and earth (matter)

Science has just found out what Scripture knew for thousands of years.
Yes, before the Bible cavemen never once thought to look up to see the stars (space), look down to see the ground (matter) or remember three minutes ago (time).

Makes you wonder how the ancient Chinese, without scripture to teach them such sophisticated and abstruse concepts, still managed to invent the abacus, astronomy, compass, crossbow, decimals, gunpowder, fireworks, lacquer, medicines, paper, printing, paper money, pasta, porcelain, pottery wheel, seismograph, sun dial, waterwheel, wheelbarrow, etc.

And just when was the Bible written?
If you open one up you’ll see it contains a lot of books, each of which was written on a separate date. Incidentally, just in case you were curious, turns out none of them was originally written in English.

Someone else that gets it.

The bible was truthfully explaining what was to a people that did not have a concept of the science behind it all.

If God were to explain it all to us in terms we could understand, it would not be exactly the same, but the events would still be in place, and while it would seem accurate to us it likely would seem just as mythical to someone with a more complete science as Genesis appears to us.

Uhh, that’s not what you asked, remember:

(Emphasis added)

My answer correctly answered the question you asked. It may not have been the question you means to ask, but I’m not a mind reader. 🙂

Duck and cover.

I saw that Chinese exhibit at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry years ago. It was fabulous.

Do you have the earliest date for these discoveries?

One wonders how Buffalo believes people could have devised a way to produce a form of parchment, a robust vocabulary, a style of grammar, etc., that would have been necessary to write any biblical work in the first place without having some notion of time, space, and matter. I bet you could give him all the necessary materials and he wouldn’t even know how to make parchment or construct a language on his own. 😉

Same Evidence, Different Conclusions: Is “Objective Belief” an Oxymoron?

John Lennox

University of Southern California 2011

Science claims to be one of the few objective ways of understanding the world. But science itself is deeply affected by our pre-existing beliefs and these a priori commitments color the way we assess the so-called ‘evidence’ for or against theism. Come and hear Dr. Lennox discuss how it is possible for two people to examine the same data and come up with vastly different interpretations. The lecture will be followed by an audience Q and A.

Will he say IDvolution? Maybe next year…

One wonders how Buffalo believes…
I wonder if I write 14 paragraphs on the issue if you will ever be able to understand the two-word phrase “on topic?” If you wish to discuss archeology and the rise of civilization, please start another thread.

Some people need to keep God in a box so everything is neat and tidy and explainable unfortunately that just isn’t reality.
