I am 73. When I was only about 5, I got pneumonia. I can still hear the doctor telling my mom, “He has to go to the hospital.” Penicillin had been discovered but a method of mass production hadn’t yet been found until the year before.
I don’t know if you have ever had a penicillin shot, but they don’t hurt that much right away; it takes about a day before they become painful; and they
stay painful for about 5 days. I had to have one every 4 hours, 24 hours a day for three weeks. I remember being awakened in the middle of the night to the nurse saying, “Time for your shot.” They hurt so much I still remember screaming as the nurse carried me to a new ward.
If there had been no “poison”, being injected into my body, I would never have seen this side of 6 years old.
