If someone has good intentions when being pro-choice, can this person go to heaven?

There are people who support abortion because they do not want the child to suffer in this world and to be poor.

So in this case, is it still a sin to be pro-choice, when you care about the well being of that child that will suffer in this world?

ps. I am pro-life, I am just curious/concerned to know where my pro-choice friends are standing

It’s not a sin to be sincerely wrong about something. It doesn’t make the belief any less wrong, but if the person genuinely thinks they’re doing good then they’re not really culpable.

Then most abortists are not sinning, because most of them think it is something ‘‘good’’.

I wouldn’t make a blanket statement of this, though there may be nuanced cases.
You’re right, that was probably too strong. I’ll amend to “it’s possible that lack of full knowledge can mitigate sinfulness.”

ignorence makes things so much easier… I wish I were ignorant in so many things, but unfortunately I keep reading catholic doctrine too much to be ignorant.

I don’t believe Heaven will be full of people who say they didn’t know their good intentions were wrong.

After all the road to hell is paved with good intention.

And I am not saying that you will go straight to hell if you feel abortion is okay if the child will live an oppressed life.

It is still killing an innocent child and I wouldn’t want that on my conscience when I meet Jesus.

Close. One is responsible for what he should reasonably be expected to know. On the other hand, if a person is truly invincibly ignorant, then there’s no culpability.

It is never right to guess who might go to heaven or hell since we are all sinners and the Lord is the judge. The “Cafeteria Catholics” who chose to ignore the teachings of the Church and support abortion are indeed guilty of sin. They might want to read Scripture, where Jesus told the Apostles whoever refuses to hear you refuses to hear me. They know where the Church stands on abortion, even school age children know that, so there really is no excuse or sugar coating their sin of pride, thinking they know better than the Church, the voice of Christ on earth.

These Catholic politicians who put votes before faith are also so guilty. They use the excuse that they have to support the people they represent, but that is just what it is, an excuse. They have no problem saying their faith guides them to feed and take care of the poor, it’s just that all of a sudden they deny their faith when it comes to killing babies. They are modern day Pontius Pilates.who washed his hands with water in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see you to it.” They know good and well babies are children of God, and they know the fate of these babies according to the laws they enable and enact.

For me and my household, we serve the Lord, not the evil wants of secularism.

Honestly I think the excuse of ignorance gets way overplayed, and it’s not going to be some kind of safe haven for everyone who doesn’t assent to Catholic morality. After all, didn’t Jesus send to hell the goats who claimed ignorance? “Lord, when did we see you and not take care of you?”

Also, there’s a difference between vincible and invincible ignorance that I’m not getting into.

Bottom line, our job is to learn the truth and to instruct the ignorant. What they do with that new knowledge is out of our hands, and Jesus, not we, will judge them.

are the modern pro-choice feminists invincibly ignorant?
You can’t apply that standard to a group. You have to ask if individually for each person, taking into account their personal circumstances.

But, to generalize: are some invincibly ignorant? Probably. Are some not? Probably.

the feminists who I know are pro-choice studies in Catholic Schools so I think they are not invincibly ignorant.
Some of them are even form Catholic/Protestant families… how could they be invincible ignorant?

and what about the non catholics?

The pro-choice people hear all the time that what they support is wrong, they just refuse to understand. I do not think invincible ignorance apply to most of them.

I agree.
after all, they live in a christian culture, so how are they invincibly ignorant?
They are just lazy to learn what is right or just flat out refuse to believe in what is right.

What we should focus on is wanting to do the right thing because it is right, not avoiding the wrong thing for fear of punishment or wishing ignorance so that we could continue in wrongdoing. We should try to conform ourselves to Christ in this life, not try to put it off until purgation after death. Even those who are invincible ignorant aren’t expected to get a pass in Purgatory, as I understand it.

I agree with you 1000%, it is not ignorance, it is pride that blinds them. They are judging an innocent life as unworthy to be given a fair chance to succeed. Killing babies just because they MIGHT be poor or they MIGHT grow up in bad household is unexcusable. Adults have no excuse, it’s ridiculous.

Invincible ignorance doesn’t mean you haven’t been exposed to the truth. One can be in a position in which he has heard the truth spoken, but still remains invincibly ignorant.
