Can veganism be pleasing to God?

Leviticus 20:25
[25] Therefore do you also separate the clean beast from the unclean, and the clean fowl from the unclean: defile not your souls with beasts, or birds, or any things that move on the earth, and which I have shewn you to be unclean.

Peter’s response clearly shows that separation wasn’t part of the discussion there.

Mark 7:19:
since it enters not the heart but the stomach and passes out into the latrine?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.)
Acts 10:9-16:
[Peter] saw heaven opened and something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered to the ground by its four corners. In it were all the earth’s four-legged animals and reptiles and the birds of the sky . A voice said to him, “Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat.” But Peter said, “Certainly not, sir. For never have I eaten anything profane and unclean.” The voice spoke to him again, a second time, “ What God has made clean, you are not to call profane. ” This happened three times, and then the object was taken up into the sky.

Christians are required by God to obey Bible Scripture in which He commands us to only eat clean meats.
No, he didn’t. He commanded the Israelites to only eat clean meat. I am not an Israelite. Have you never read the book of Romans and the teaching of Paul on the limits of the Mosaic law?

The mortifying aspects of veganism is probably the main factor.

Wrong. Other posters on this thread have repeatedly pointed out your mistake, so there’s no need for me to repeat the information that they have had the kindness to pass on to you.

Jews are required to keep kosher. Christians aren’t. It’s a different religion. Don’t take my word for it – ask @Moses613 or @meltzerboy2.

First Video

Chickens eat poop.

Edit: Also, depending on how you look at things, cows technically eat their own vomit.

Second Video

Barely got into it and already this is relevant again:

I’m not bothering with the rest unless there’s something particularly worthwhile you want to draw attention to.

It depends on how far you want to go with obeying Scriptural commandments from the Hebrew Bible. If you go all the way, you find you will probably forfeit being Catholic or Christian in general and instead become Jewish. According to Judaism, Christians do NOT have to obey the dietary laws except they should probably refrain from eating animals who are still alive. So pork, shrimp, and other scavengers are allowed to be consumed.

I was being charitable LOL. IIRC, there is a type of bird that is served live in high-class French restaurants.

I think of catholic vegetarianism along the lines of celibacy - a discipline some are called to. Some saints and religious orders strictly abstain and some moderately abstain because it works for their situation and community.

The new testament assures we can eat all God’s creatures, it does not say we have to or that we should regularly or that we should even if the animal has suffered.

I eat organic free range meat once or twice a month, fish once or twice a week, and pasture raised eggs. For me this is the right balance of partaking but also not indulging. I believe God wants us to be ethical in our treatment of animals.

There’s nothing wrong with veganism, but to claim that it is morally superior to eating meat is problematic.

Christ helped and advised the fishermen who fished using a net, hauled the fish onto the boat and then cooked the fish. If Christian vegans have a moral issue with this, then there is a bit of a problem.

Even though, “…World Health Organisation has officially classified processed meat as “carcinogenic”, alongside such notorious substances as tobacco, arsenic, and pesticides.”

If it involves less suffering and is better for the planet as well as personal health, how is it not superior?

The post was made in humor, but I do want to point out that even the articles notes flaws with the WHO classification. For instance, processed meat and tobacco, despite being the same category, are on very different levels of how much risk they pose. So it can cause problems, but so can drinking too much water. (I’m not putting them on the same level, just pointing out that, in lack of moderation, almost anything can cause us health problems.)

The issue is when we start treating animals under the same ethical standards as humans, which a lot of vegans do. Now, I think a lot of the meat industry and other animal-product industries have ceased to be good stewards, but the response to that doesn’t necessarily have to be veganism.

Also, happy cake day!

Agreed. Cake day? I will have to search vegan cake recipes though I am not much of a cook.
