Is it ok for catholics to believe in astral projection?I am trying to become a lucid dreamer so i need 2 know.I do not belive in it,but are we allowed to?
I am going to say this, at the expense of being criticized,or offending someone—but don’t fall for the “Christianized” version of astral projection. It is just a way to draw you into New Age or occult practices. It would seem like a viable “solution” to indulge your curiosity, but it is not the right road either Have you heard of *other attempts to “whitewash” Not-Chistian *things??
Have you heard of Pagan Christians? I am NOT saying they are the same thing, but it is the *same kind of attempt *to draw in unsuspecting Christians into doing things counter to your traditional (Catholic Christian in our case) Christian practices.

Well said! My sentiments exactly 🙂

Please provide a source for your statement.
Read at least the first chapter of Astral DYnamics and you’ll understand. It’s written more like a sceince textbook than anything else. Being exetremely complicated(astral projection), I think you should just read the beginning part of the book, even if you do not really believe in all of it.

Once you experience projection, though, your perspective really changes…

I seriously doubt that Rober Bruce wrote his books on astral projection merely because he wanted people to practice new age beliefs.

But your response is the typical answer that a Catholic would give;)

Extremely complicated? I doubt it. And just because something is written like a science text book, it doesn’t make it a science. I don’t want to buy a book to fund a fraudster, so please, if you’ve got some cold, hard empirical facts and statistics that you can show me, then do so.

It is not a matter of believing in it. Whether it is real or not we are still forbidden from doing it.

Astro-projection is classed as a sin in the catholic of this i am quite shure. This Catholic church explicitly states that the soul cannot be sepereated form the body untill after death.

i will have a look for some sources

Thank you:) —I know how alluring this is, and any attempt at Christianizing occult things is diabolical in my opinion. It attempts to give the “green light” where there were warning signs from every direction— from the Church, and from other members here, in this case.

My point was that *being involved *with such things can draw a person into other New Age practices, despite the possibility the author of your book wants to do that. I wouldn’t know that either.

Thank you for the compliment that I sound like a typical Catholic—I used to read and practice these things—, but since I removed myself from these things, I have spent more time in prayer and reading on Christian prayer, and less in satisfying a wanton curiosity.

Yeah, Catholics are probably forbidden from doing so. I guess there really is no arguement, since we both agree that Christians are prohibited to practice such things.

SOmone said that soul cannot be separated until death. Well, the soul is not the projection. The projection is made up of your unique energy. The energy body is you, an exact copy of you. The projection reflex just gathers up energy that makes us and reproduces it, creating a projected double. So, no, it is not the soul that is being projected. As for separation from body not including death, what about NDE’s?

It is alot of hard work, and the theory is quite complicated. As I said, there is tons of free info on his site : astraldynamics.com/tutorials/

There is New Energy Ways(NEW), which is a way to strengthen the subtle body in order for a successful projection.

Here is alot of information about astral projection to give you abetter idea of what it is and what it is like: astraldynamics.com/tutorials/?BoardID=65

You don’t have to practice it…it’s amazing, but you do not have to.

Yes, it certainly could. So can Harry Potter and TV shows like CHarmed. Yet, wouldn’t life be boring without them? But yes, anything that relates to New Age is prohibited by most Christians.

Sorry for bumping this old thread… But i too had been interested in these two items… i learned that astra projection was against the church so i stopped looking into it, but always seemed to have mixed answers with lucid dreaming… Some say its fine as long as you dont sin like you do in real life… and i also read many catholic monks participated in lucid dreaming… but i also heard others that said it was wrong to do… I guess it just depends on WHAT you lucid dream about? I wish the church had an official stance on it :D:D

Yes it is prohibited for many reasons but I think it can all be summed up that it is because it is dangerous. The church has a duty to protect our souls and to act as a guide to bring us to God. They have an obligation to ensure we are safe. It only makes sense that they should prohibit such things.

It always helps me to remember that this is the churchs job, to look out for my soul, and that they have had centuries to conclude such things. They have gathered information through many channels over the centuries from revelations, prophets, exorcisms, the bible, the saints and through just plain experiance. The church has absolutely nothing to gain by asking me to avoid such things.

How embarassingly stupid would I be not to listen?

On a side note: It always amazes me though how many people conclude things on their own or go against the chruch because they don’t agree. Ever since I was a very little kid I’ve thought such statements were incredibly interesting and odd from a logical standpoint.

I’ve always inquired of such people where they get their information (yes even as a kid and yes I was weird) I’ve yet, to this day, to hear a response that holds up even slightly against what the church has concluded. How can you argue with centuries of learning and documentation through thousands of religiously educated persons? I do have slightly more respect / regard for the thoughts of those persons who have an actually degree in theology and so forth but even those persons in and of themselves don’t have the kind of experiance or access to information that would hold any weight with me. (Usually those persons don’t have conclusions they’ve made on their own so they aren’t usually the problem.)

It also puzzles me that so many people assume they have control over the spiritual situation because they “protected themselves” or whatever when they did a Ouigi board or whatnot. Anyone who knows the very basics about spirits is aware of the fact that they don’t operate on our time schedule. With that being said how can they conclude anything from their experiance when the actual fallout from it could be anytime…it could be now, two weeks from now or 100 years from now. Like I said they don’t operate within our timeframes. Even scientists recognize the theory of relativity and that time is relative and that time always needs to be considered in every interaction. Yet despite all of this persons continue to draw conclusions on the spirit world based on their own interactions. Very puzzling.

Sorry I know that is totally sidetracking.

With respect to astral projection I know there are “scientists” who have theories about it but a theory is actually an idea. Not fact. The part that science misses even in your book is the spiritual side of the picture. I can see the possibility of this happening and being able to do it. I’ve seen some such books and read some of them and although the scientific look at something is interesting again I would only be completely embarassed at my stupidity if I were to attempt such a thing.

I went to school for scientists and know many as a result. One thing we all agree on is that we don’t know enough about anything. We all know, and I am sure your author would agree, that there are things that we don’t understand about spirit. With that being said you are taking big risks with astral projection because of the unknown. All these scientists, even my physics professor whose own mentor was a peer or Einsteins admits that there is a possibility of spirit as the church teaches it and that there are to many things we don’t understand. This introduces huge risk, probably some risk the church wouldn’t even realize.

Again, I fall back onto the church and religion. Religion the oldest organizaiton to recognize spirit.

How stupid would I be to try such things as astral projection?? Even those who tried it don’t know the fallout as it could be 100’s of years from now.

Puzzling…

BlackTiger,
I’ve read your posts and you are an intelligent person so I am surpised by this answer.

If you are aware or even slightly belive in bad spirits, as I think you do, you should be aware of the possibility that Rober Bruce could’ve been pursueded and/or manipulated for a cause without even realizing it.

It is a possibility and therefor it is possible that Lisa Annette is correct or understandably cautious.

Astral Projection is not magick. It is actually a very scientific process and does have some scientific feedback.
BlackTiger,
You amuze me which is kind of nice on a rainy afternoon.

I assume that by referencing “Scientific Process” you actually meant to say scientific method. If my assumption is correct then you are probably aware that the scientific method is simply a method put together to investigate or examine knowledge or an idea/theory. Scientific method can be applied to anything including magic. This makes your statement quite humorous because how do you propose that establising a method of investigation makes something non-magic? Funny.

As for “some scientific feedback” that is jsut a funny statement. For one trying to reference science so often you are not very scientific. Again, per my previous paragraph you can set up a scientific method to investigate anything, which is why it is so useful, and as a result you can get scientific feedback. True “Scientific feedback” as you call it is non-biased and can either prove or disprove a theory and hypothesis. With that being said your statement does nothing to support your claim as you just said it was feedback. You said nothing about what the feedback was and whether or not it proved or disproved a hypothesis. Aside from that though your point was that these things weren’t magic because there was scientific method and feedback with respect to them.

In conclusion this makes no logical sense as even magic can have scientific theory applied and application of said theory does not make it non-magic.

amusing 🙂

A couple final thoughts:

“Science can purify religion from error and superstition; religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. Each can draw the other into a wider world, a world in which both can flourish…We need each other to be what we must be, what we are called to be.”

Something to think about.

Happy weekend!

You bring up an excellant point. First, I do not think this is so. People who are possessed usually develope mental problems or go crazy, after a number of years. He would be dead, in theory, because he has been testing what he does for 30+ years.

Now, imagine if we had this attitude for everything…Following this viewpoint, I could just as easily say that the Church is really motivated by demons, but demons, being deceptive, we do not realize it. I could say that maybe you are being manipulated by demons and putting me off from knowing something wonderful.

Both of these conclusions are ridiculous, but I’m just trying to make a point that we can be suspicious of everything with this view.

Coreopisis,

Well, responding to your first paragraph, I guess it’s how you define magick. And we could get into a very heavy debate about this, so let’s not argue over terms and how to define things.

Scientists have conducted research with brainwaves(beta, alpha, theta, etc.) They have also done tests to semi-‘prove’ astral projection. These tests include things like placing a card in a box, then projecting into the box to see what the card is.

Astral Dynamics has many differnt theories based on these experiments, so there is an actual idea of how the process works. But I know it is real, and if you actually tried it you would too…but this debate might not be over that, but whether the Bible prohibits it.

i don’t really understand this whole dialogue that is going on here. What is wrong with dreaming? I personally love having dreams.

hi, astral projection makes no sense at all,and its a physical impossibility. So no,Catholics definitely shouldnt try it or believe it,because Lord Jesus might think we were silly. But lucid dreaming,on the other hand,is perfectly good.I am trying to get the hang of it-I want to use it to talk to animals and visit distant lands. As long as you use it ONLY to do things you know God would approve of,lucid dreaming is good:thumbsup:

Astral projection is very different from dreaming, though, in theory, some of our dreams are astral projections.
