Eeeeeh, I don’t know… It’s alright I guess.
Well I’m already a confirmed Catholic and pretty happy with the way things are in general. I’m basically just probing for ideas. (its what I do on my days off)Only families in our parish hold hands during the Our Father…the rest of us palms up…the prayer is chanted and is never sung.
I have been to other churches where there were many candles…most of ours are in the chapel, adjacent to the main church…
We’ve had flutes (and all I can think about when I hear them is my younger sister practicing and she was awful) not a big fan of flutes.
If you’re wanting a lot of incense head for the nearest Orthodox church…use to attend with my maternal grandmother…they have just about anything you listed.
What do you mean “big changes”…?I like the mass as it is…but we’ll be getting ready for big changes in the mass itself…cc and converts new ones, will be all on the same page…hopefully…but it will be different.
I did not say that God is not making an appearance. You quoted only half of my sentence. If one looks deeper into the purpose of the Mass, one finds that mass is actually a two-part operation… Two parts which are inseperable.
The first part of our Sacrificial Mass is our sacrifice in which we glorify God through adoration, thanksgiving, prayer and expiation…
The second part of the Sacrificial Mass is our acceptance of the Holy Eucharist which as a supernatural gift from God serves to sanctify our souls. Now if one fails to believe that the Eucharist is a supernatural gift, in which God physically enters our body, does that person retain the sacramental benefits of the Eucharist…??? After all, the leopars were only cured by their beleif, as they went off on their way to the preist as they were told.
So why shouldnt we exaggerate the breaking of bread…?
And why then have we been hearing bells rung during the consecration of the gifts…?
How can one say “God is not making an appearance”, “He will come at the end of time”…? I have to disagree.
But even though I disagree, I’m not claiming to be correct. I’m not attempting to correct the Church if I am actually wrong. But why else would we even ring the bells in the first place?
I’m a huge fan of Matthew Kelly, I’ve read all his books… I even went to one of his seminars a while back… He’s a moving speaker. This topic reminds me of the CD produced by Matthew Kelly call the Seven Pillars of Catholic Spirituality. GREAT CD btw…He has the Mass as one of the 7 Pillars and goes through this whole bit on "The Problem with the Mass is…and the 15 million reasons people give. The truth is and he is right is that the problem isn’t out there…it is inside people’s hearts. That is why the people who go to daily mass witness a completely different side of worship…the people who go daily are on fire for the Lord and it shows! His suggestion is for each person (or child) to come away with ONE thing from each mass that the Lord speaks to them and write it down…could be verse from a song, scripture passage, message from Homily etc…
My suggestion is to study the Bible and learn how and why our mass flows from it…Sign up for Jeff Cavin’s Adventure Bible Timeline course and it will open your eyes to things you never knew and will make the mass even more meaningful. His course on Revelation shows how the mass is seen in heaven. Teach yourselves and your children…go through the parts of the mass with them and show them in scripture where it is and the story behind it…Example…John the Baptist saying as Jesus comes to be baptized…“Behold the Son of God who takes away the sin of the world”…once you find out why we do things we do in mass…your appreciation of it will grow and you can teach your own children. Watch EWTN new show…The Biblical History of the Mass"…As for the person whose child doesn’t want to be confirmed…check out Revelation 9:3-5…It talks about the people who had the seal of God on their foreheads (which is confirmation) and that they were not to be harmed when the “evil spirits” (locusts) were allowed out of the bottomless pit…
If your Church doesn’t offer these classes…order the materials yourself and do it together as a family. I just wish I had done it earlier…
Yeah the thing is that our Church was the same way, and there is a reason changes are comming, because the way it is isn’t holding up against time.Only families in our parish hold hands during the Our Father…the rest of us palms up…the prayer is chanted and is never sung.

Sorry for that.I did not say that God is not making an appearance. You quoted only half of my sentence.
I said:
“The Mass doesn’t need any special effects. God in His humility is hidden under the appearance of bread and wine in the Eucharist.** He is not making an appearance with drum rolls and flashing lights.** He will come in glory at the end of time, not now. For now we need to have faith to “see” Him.”.
Why wouldnt it also be reverent then to dim the lights, and shine a single beam of light down at the time of transubstantiation…? Again I’m not trying to be too pushy here, just throwing out some ideas…God’s real presence in the Eucharist is as real as his future coming at the end of time. His parousia, or presence is now for us in the Eucharist. The simple ringing of the consecration bells doesn’t exaggerate anything and is very fitting and reverent.
You are the last person I would have imagine to be a HIM fan lol
I agree that it is a tragedy that such a large percentage of Catholics don’t believe in transubstantiation. But, to make the sacred act of the Consecration an exaggerated theatrical show is not going to give someone faith. The priest is to do what Jesus did at the Last Supper, not put on a show. The unbloody sacrifice of Calvary is made present. Jesus’ appearance is hidden and veiled under the appearance of bread and wine. We are to believe Jesus is really present in the Eucharist because we believe God because He is truth Himself, and we are to believe what His Church teaches. All the electronic spotlights and drum rolls in the world can’t give someone faith.Sorry for that.

Again I’m not trying to be too pushy here, just throwing out some ideas…I think it’ss unfortunate that such a large percentage of Catholics don’t really believe in transubstantiation. I think it would be beneficial to stress the supernatural aspects of our faith.
What ?You are the last person I would have imagine to be a HIM fan lol![]()
so where do you attend church…obviously not the Latin Mass…which is not egocentric. It is not about you it is what the Saviour did FOR you.I couldnt help myself from swaying back and forth during the Our Father last Sunday out of pure sarcasm because it just seemed soooo sloooow and quite frankly, a little cheesy.
Why does mass have to be such a social event? Why do we need to turn our churches into something like a meeting hall as opposed to a temple where miracles take place…
I want to see more candles.
I want to see people to experience church… Not attend church.
I want to hear more syncronized prayer that sounds more “chantish”
I want to smell more incense.
I want to see special effects in lighting.
I want to hear more orchestrated music with flutes and harps.
I want to see the lights shut completely off with a drumroll right before father says “Through Him with Him in Him in the unity of the Holy Spirit”
I want bells replaced with symbols.
I want more stained glass.
I want Church to be a unique and thrilling experience. Less casual more theatrical.
Please feel free to critique my proposal.
I do attend Latin Mass every chance I get. It’s my favorite Mass. Where do you attend church…A Mosque?so where do you attend church…obviously not the Latin Mass…which is not egocentric. It is not about you it is what the Saviour did FOR you.
I totally agree, thanks for the response gurney…I’d pay good money to ban holding hands during the Our Father, forbid permanently these extraordinary ministers (they drive me nuts, especially when they try to bless my kids!!), ban the cheesy music (especially the Spanish stuff at English Mass and the “Cuerpo de Cristo” type tunes), and make guitars illegal in church. Heck, I’m a lifelong guitar player and I’ll admit they have no place in a church. Then, bring back the incense, dignity, and heck a relevent and lucid homily once in a while might even be a nice little perk!
I guess you’ve never been to St. Patrick’s or Holy Innocents in NYC. Where are the holy statues, the high altar or the tabernacle? That Church looks rather Protestant.picasaweb.google.com/oceanside4christ/NewlyOrdainedPriestVisits#5235915101987892050
Go to the above site and see this Mass… This is the Church I’d like everyone to go to… This is the Latin Mass service that I attend… It’s in Oceanside CA… St. Margarets. My favorite Church.
