If you don’t agree with everything within the church?

If you don’t get confirmed for years because no churches will do it for you 😦 (for me that’s real)

I still don’t feel Sunday is the correct Sabbath day. Ever since the age of 12, I’ve felt it’s been the traditional Jewish times…I can’t get over it. It’s just there. Does that conflict too much with the Catholic church?

I don’t know…

Thanks!

Speaking from a viewpoint of practical reality, if having to “agree with everything within the Church” was criteria for being a Catholic, then a large number of members, perhaps a majority, and definitely including some clergy and persons in high places, would be thrown out. If your disagreement is serious and you express it strongly or publicly enough then the Church can and will throw you out, but for most people their disagreement does not reach this height and remains a matter for themselves and their conscience to wrestle with.

Obviously there are certain aspects of the faith such as the Real Presence and the infallibility of the Pope where disagreement is going to be a much more serious matter than a disagreement on something minor like whether it is OK to applaud for the musicians at the end of the Mass.

What was their ground for refusing?

It is a conflict, but to me it’s a relatively minor one especially given that you have the option of attending a vigil Mass on Saturday to fulfill your Sunday obligation. I’m sure someone else might see it as major 🙂

You don’t really think that the Church has been wrong since Apostolic times for celebrating the Eucharist on Sunday, the day of Our Lord’s Resurrection?

**Feeling **that something is a certain way is not a good basis for deciding something, is it?

And in fact, I see that this feeling of yours has kept you from a full relationship with Christ, so I would suggest that possibly it is a temptation. It seems like a small temptation, but it is having a large effect on your life.

Maybe the best thing for you to do would be to explore the issue: Sunday has been celebrated as the Sabbath since Apostolic times: why is that? Do you think that Christ’s actual disciples, who knew Him personally, would get something like that wrong? Etc.

Full communion with Christ means less of you and more of Christ. He founded a Church, gave it all authority, and taught that we must 1) deny ourselves, 2) take up our cross daily and only then, after doing those two very difficult things, 3) follow him.

  1. Lots of people never get confirmed. For may reasons. It’s better that you do, in fact, in your case it may help with some of your questions to take an Adult Confirmation class, or if your parish permits it, do RCIA with the others lacking certain Sacraments who are already Baptized. You can also ask your pastor to instruct you one on one.
  2. Sunday is the day of the Resurrection. That’s what Mass is all about, Christ is the Paschal Lamb. And…He makes all things new. We have a NEW Covenant. Get a good book on the subject…Maybe the Lamb’s Supper by Scott Hahn.

You cannot be a Catholic if you do not believe or practise Catholic doctrine

  1. Your objection is based on a false presupposition, i.e., that Christians celebrate the Sabbath. We don’t. This is an idea that the Jewish day of worship and the Christian day of worship are the same thing, and that at some point Christians changed the day it was celebrated.
The Sabbath celebration and the Catholic day of worship are essentially different things. Scripture tells us many times that when Christ instituted the new and eternal Covenant, Christians were not bound to observe the Sabbath.

Instead, Catholics follow Christ’s explicit command to offer the sacrifice of the Mass when we gather to worship Him. Since Christ also gave His church the power to bind and loose, it thus follow that the Church has the legitimate authority to designate what the official day of worship for the faithful will be.
  1. Why have you been refused Confirmation?

If you don’t agree with everything within the church?

I think that depends. Dad used to sing "Give me that old Latin religion when mass in Latin was materially prohibited.

Why wont they do it?

How strongly do you feel about that?
Is that your only issue?

The Sabbath and Sunday are 2 different things two different days.

Who are you talking to?
Did you read the article?
I work at a parish, I attend ALL the Masses. I’m not the OP.
With the resurrection of Christ the Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday. God created the world on the first day and He rose again on the first day. It is from apostolic times that this understanding has been applied.

Look.
If you want tp answer to the OP quote THAT PERSON.
I have already answered in another post, and have posted an article that says virtually the same thing that you just said.
You do not need to refute someone who is posting the same material.

Use the REPLY option, not the QUOTE option.

If you quote me again, and misinterpret what I say again, I will report it. I am asking you please, to post in reply to the OP as I have done.

Basically the Finnish Catholics think it’s the American church that should do it and vice versa. No one can seem to be bothered. It’s been years and honestly I’m just so tired of it all. It’s roadblock after roadblock. I basically consider myself an Old Catholic and leave it at that. The Roman Catholic church and I will never be one it seems.

You don’t have to agree with it as much as you have to do it. You can disagree that the Sabbath should be Saturday and not Sunday, as much as you want, but that does not relieve you of the obligation to attend Mass and keep SUNDAY holy.

Where do you live?

Where do you live?
Finland but am from Georgia USA. It’s just been a pain and all. I just kind of give up on it honestly. It’s been like 3 years I’ve been trying. I wrote the pope, you name it.
